The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.
According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.
The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.
The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.
The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission's long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use.
Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s

Let me guess: Team Twitch just dismissed the request for a comment out of hand, calling it a partisan, politically-motivated attack?
And just think: For that kind of money, the RNC could have hired a team of strippers from "Scores" for the GOP convention instead of a 40-something bumpkin with five kids (if the strategy was to appeal to the prurient interests of "Joe Six Pack.") :D

The thing that's wrong with this is the hipocracy. You can't tout her as a hockey mom, then go out and spend that kind of money. Someone said that the clothes will be donated to charity, but that's not really the point. It's a dumb move on their part. It's not like Obama shops at Wal-Mart either, but he never claimed to, and that's the difference.

One thing they should require her to do is wear the price tags on her new togs. (Maybe a Minnie Pearl tag on the hairdo.)* What that does is energize the fantasies of all those hockey moms who want to "be like Sarah". But what's a poor girls to do? Can't let her talk to the many reporters and non-faux TV shows and people wearing rags, can you?
(Oh, wait. Come to think of it, even all dressed out she still sounds dumb.)
The only real accessory she needs is that little tag that proclaims "Alaskans for Independence". That would send chills through the bodies of hockey moms everywhere. Independence? WOW!!!..........
*Can someone Photoshop Palin into a picture of Minnie Pearl? I think that would look great on a T-shirt. Money to be made there, guys.....

I would take Obama, Biden, Edwards, Hilliary, any of them over Palin. She's just a ridiculous pick and I keep waiting for McCains real plan to emerge like this is a bad dream. when he picked her I thought well maybe they want the real VP pick to have less time for the media to investigate. This thought has crossed my mind more than a few times this campaign season.
It's possible that the GOP (and their big donors) don't want to win this one.
It's possible that they know things are going to get a lot worse on the economic front, and that they want to leave the Dems holding the bag while they hunker down in their bunkers in Paraguay, counting their ill-gotten loot.

Palin's Clothes Are Becoming a Wardrobe Malfunction
When the RNC decided to tell Sarah Palin to go shopping at its expense they were undoubtedly expecting to get a sexy hot chick who would impress the hell out of Joe Sixpack and his cousin, Joe-the-Plumber. Instead, her $150,000 shopping spree has become a news story in itself. After first appearing on Politico (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14805.html), it has since been reported by the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/22/AR2008102202187.html?hpid=artslot), the NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/23/us/politics/23palin.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin), the LA Times (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/alltherage/2008/10/palins-economic.html), CNN (http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/22/morning-buzz-palin-expenses/), Fox News (http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/21/report-rnc-spent-g-spruce-palin/), and thousands of other outlets. Go to Google and type: Sarah Palin $150,000 and you will get over 100,000 hits. The general theme of the articles is that her claim to being just a hockey mom doesn't fit well with buying $150,000 worth of clothes. Only a couple of outlets mention the additional bill of over $20,000 for makeup artists (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2008/10/httpwwwpoliticocomnewsstories1.html?hpid=artslot) for September. In addition to sifting through the RNC filing (where this data came from), Politico also went through the DNC filing to see if there was anything similar. There wasn't. Obama and Biden are wearing their own clothes. Some GOP donors are complaining (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1008/14840.html) that their donations have not been spent wisely. If you are a fashionista and want to know where Palin buys her clothes, here is the list (http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/10/22/gop-consultant-reimbursed-for-palin-shopping-spree/?hp).

Associated Press - October 24, 2008 2:43 PM ET
WASHINGTON (AP) - Sarah Palin describes herself as a frugal shopper.
But when it comes to spending on her behalf, the McCain campaign isn't pinching pennies.
According to campaign finance reports for the first half of this month, the campaign paid $22,800 to a celebrity makeup artist who has been Palin's traveling stylist.
By comparison, McCain's foreign policy adviser was paid $12,500.
The stylist is Amy Strozzi, who works on the reality show "So You Think You Can Dance."
In recent days, the Republican National committee has come under scrutiny for spending about $150,000 in September on wardrobe and cosmetics after Palin joined the ticket.
Palin told Fox news that the clothing purchased for the Republican National Convention wasn't worth $150,000, and that most of it hasn't left her campaign plane.
