THE NEWS
Receiver Chad Jackson has tried out for numerous teams in the previous weeks but resulted in no contract. On Tuesday, Jackson auditioned for the Broncos and it finally ended with him receiving a contract, according to Scout.com.
Our View
Jackson was drafted by the Patriots and played in nine games in 2007. Even though the receiver has finally found a job he will not have any fantasy value.

This makes all the sense in the world.
They need 2-3 Safety's and 2 LBs so Sign a bust WR.
I guess they will use him as KR so they can cut Andre Hall.

I like it. He can return kicks and provide WR depth where we have been hurt by injuries. He has to be better than Hall at returning kicks.
I hope this isn't a sign that Stokely is going to miss more time.

Yep Hall is about to be cut.
Why... damn Florida wideout love from Shanny.
Dumb move. Need to add a running back, not a wideout, Glenn can return kicks. I understand letting go of Hall after last night, but you still can't put all your eggs in the Young/Torain basket.

This in reality though has like a 3% chance of helping the team.

Low Risk - High Reward.
I don't see a big deal in this. I'm sure there will be other roster moves that will allow us to sign a RB.

If Torain and Young are good to go after the bye, we should be fine at RB. Maybe Jackson replaces Hall as the KR then.

From the Denver Post, it sounds like Shaw may end up being gone. With Champ out a while, we'll have to sign another CB as we're down to 3. Maybe a CB to take Boss' roster spot.

well we need defensive help, so we signed a WR who has been a bust in the league. i am missing the logic here. We should just outright cut Hall and let Martinez return kicks and bring up Barrett or Rogers from the practice squad to help at Safety.

Yes, because there are so many quality LBs and safeties available at this time of season Uhh. Jackson at least has some talent. Probably nothing will come of it, but name me some quality safeties or LBs who were sitting around without jobs.

I think we signed him because he was beating our defensive backs in his tryout, and the coaching staff said, "wow, this guy is great, he is contantly beating our CB's off the line he must be great, don't know what NE was thinking."
I like this move. I was thinking that we were going to have to draft a WR high this next year and with the way our defense is playing, we realistically don't have that option. If Jackson pans out, may or may not, he could fill that role that I wanted a potential rookie to play next year. Now the question remains why did NE just give up on him? Answers to come.

The WR position is very thin after Marshall and Royal.
Only if Stokley is seriously hurt. If he's not, then we already have three receivers not named Marshall or Royal who are all far better than Chad Jackson:
Darrell Jackson
Brandon Stokley
Glenn Martinez
Trust me on this one, I've read all the local coverage of this guy since he's been drafted. Brady simply can't trust him to be where he's supposed to be on any given play. He is dumb and can't learn where to be in an NFL style offense.
I just don't get it. We address an outing like Monday night by signing a new WR and looking at kickers and punters. So far this season, these are the only positions NOT killing the team.

"Receiver Chad Jackson has tried out for numerous teams in the previous weeks but resulted in no contract."
Why am I not surprised that nobody else wanted this guy? He was a high draft pick and he's fallen off a cliff. What's up? Is he a criminal? Does he have a spinal injury? There's surely a reason only WE want this guy.

Huh? We always bring in guys for depth to see if they work out. This isn't a panic move it's an attempt to add depth.

Adding players at this time of year isn't desperation. It's just normal operation to bring guys in to try them out. Everybody knows that in football you are what you are and there is no changing it until after the season is over.

What you mean the team hasn't melted down like everyone around here? They are calmly looking to the future and trying to keep calm and collected in rebuilding year that has suddenly seen some unfortunate injuries? They aren't throwing the baby out with the bath water, firing the enitre defense and trading Marshal and Cutler for a MLB and a Safety? Darrell Jackson is working on his 9th year in the NFL... and in NFL years that is starting to get long in the tooth. I believe the average career for an NFL player is something like 3.5 years.

13 catches for 150 yards in 2+ years in the league
The team that moved up in the early 2nd round to get him gave up on him in just 2 years.
Numerous teams have brought him in for a look, but not even made an offer.
I don't imagine many of them would want us to bump that thread right now.

I agree, I think Hall has worn his welcome out. They probably don't want to potentially get Royal hurt returning kicks, so they are getting Jackson to do that. Martinez shows flashes, but I,m just not sold on the guy.

He has suffered injuries. He has 4.4 speed and enough size to handle bump coverage. I like this signing.

This is hilarious but I clearly remember Colin Cowherd interviewing Mel Kiper the year we drafted Cutler and we made a draft trade pre draft to set us up for trading up on draft day. Cowherd asked Kiper what he thought the Broncos were doing and Kiper said that he thought the Broncos were targeting Jackson in the first round.

I just don't see it. The Pats throw away an early 2nd round pick in favor of:
1. 5th rounder Matt Slater.........exactly
2. Street FA Maurice Price......yup
3. Sam Aiken......started 2 games in 5 seasons with the Bills
4. Kelley Washington.....whose best season by far was back in 2004, when he had 31 receptions for 378 yds.
And all I keep hearing about in the local media is how Brady couldn't rely on him in any situation when he was on the field. Nothing about dumping him due to his injury.
If he was really any good, I just don't see a team throwing him to the curb given the guys listed above that they chose to keep instead.

We all know the draft is a crap shoot and you can't hold bad picks against teams. But here's what I don't get. If you really love a prospect and don't get him in the draft, then he turns out to be a total bust with another NFL franchise (with a well respected front office, arguably the best qb in the league throwing to him, and in dire need at his position at the time), is the proper response:
a) "Thank god we dodged that bullet"
or
b) "Sign him!"

Yeah, just like with Keary Colbert. The Broncos liked him coming out of college, too. Despite ample evidence that he couldn't play, and through the laughter of the city of Charlotte, the Broncos "braintrust" gave him a nice FA contract including at least $2 million guaranteed. Then they realized what most people knew all along and shipped him off to desperate Seattle. Notice, however, that Seattle wasn't desperate enough to sign Chad Jackson....
