View Full Version : Let's look at the remainig schedule.. where will we end up?

So we got a bye this week and then 9 games left. This season is far, far from over. Our Defense sucks bad... as bad as they showed Monday, maybe, maybe not. We wil see. BMarsh and Cutler said we will see what kind of team we are as the season goes. The team that won 3 in a row, or the one that has lost 3/4. So what will our record end up being?
Miami - W - Team will not be denied at home and wants redemption, much like Pats last night
@ Cleveland - W - Get a streak going
@ Atlanta - W - Homer pick here
Oakland - W - Jokes on them again
@ NY Jets - L - Favre lights us up
Kansas city - W - not in our house
@ Carolina - L - Too physical for us
Buffalo - L - Their D is very good, forcing TO's
@ San Diego - L - I think SD gets back on track, but we win with better division record.
9-7 and we squeak into the dance.

And wouldn't most have taken a 9-7 record going into the season? Even Vegas would pay out on that.

I wouldn't lock down any wins or losses for this team. It's too inconsistent on offense and it's still struggling (but making progress) on defense.
Cutler is getting frustrated. You can see it in his face.
Question is, will he get better, or worse?

i honestly think we could lose 6 of those games. cleveland is no cakewalk in the cold, atlanta has turner who will probably run for 300 on us, we make favre look like johnny unitas, carolina runs over us all day long and sacks jay about 30 times, buffalo is well rounded and edwards actually can throw the pill, and SD will want to annihilate us due to ref-gate in denver.
Maybe that's just the Everclear talking, but it's not inconceivable.

I really think at this point the only goal should be not get embarrassed by Miami - not win - but to not get embarrassed by Maimi - Broncos could loose lot of their fan base if they loose like this against Miami next weekend.
I am not saying this for the sake of saying, Miami will use the same type of game plan used by NE. NE ran lot of counter plays by pulling a guard to the left who just blew away our undersized LBs. To faciliate this for NE, we were either playing Elvis at DE or gasp going without one (3-4).
What does Miami do on wildcat - thats right they put Long as an additonal right tackle and pull with their left guard/tackle. They can just destroy our defense using this.

Now, I can only hope I am not overestimating them.
i'm pretty sure they'll end up at home on the sofa watching the playoffs on TV.

Agreed, the team from last night will not win another game. They are much better than that, we know that and have seen it this year. I just hope we push forward and get to where many of us pegged them for this year.

Before the year, I had them at 8-8/9-7. After our hot start, I upped it to 10-6/11-5.
Now though, if that team shows up again, its 7-9/8-8 at best.
If they improve, I say 8-8/9-7. Maybe 10-6. Its going to be hard to go 6-3 the rest of the way though.
I still remember all those optimists who were saying we would easily go 11-5 or better.

Hopefully they can at least split Miami & Oak.
Somewhere between 5-11 & 8-8 seems logical.

After watching that game who in their right mind would want to see us in the playoffs. People wanted to forget the Charger games and the Lions from last year but this team hasn't upgraded that much. I really like Clady, Royal and Hillis but our defense is still horrid. I stick by my prediction at the beginning of the year and my bet with Rugby 7-9, maybe 8-8. We are still two good drafts away from contending.

Miami - W - Coming off a bye, they should win at home
@ Cleveland - W - They should feed off of their Miami win
@ Atlanta - L - Their running game will destroy our soft run defense
Oakland - W - We'll beat them at home
@ NY Jets - L - Favre will remind us of who we really are
Kansas city - W - A team worse off then us (although they did beat us)
@ Carolina - L - Too physical for us
Buffalo - L - They'll make us start to think about next year
@ San Diego - L - We get blown out and Cutler gets injured
8-8...we're essentially the same team as we were last year.
**If we played to our capabilities...we could win the next 6 and finish up 7-2...with a 11-5 record. That would mean a total change in terms of how we are currently playing. Not likely.

Michael Turner - 150 Yards 2 TD's, Ryan 180 Yards 1 TD in Atlanta = Loss for us.

I'll take a shot:
Denver's remaining games:
Miami - L - This team is tougher than their record indicates. Beat up on the Pats and eeked out a 17-10 win against SD. And that Wildcat offense is going to give you fits.
@ Cleveland - W - Coming in upset at losing to Miami, emotion wins this one.
@ Atlanta - L - Michael Turner + home field advantage = loss.
Oakland - W - No comment needed.
@ NY Jets - W - Jets = paper tiger.
Kansas city - W - No comment needed.
@ Carolina - L - Toss up. 3-game win streak has everyone playing hard. But I bet in the end Delhomme engineers a last second comeback against Broncos' _efense and the Panthers eek out a win.
Buffalo - L - Very good team.
@ San Diego - L - SD is going to be looking for payback.
= 4 more wins, 5 more losses = Denver 8-8.
Let's do San Diego's remaining:
@ London (NO) - L - This is a toss up depending on which SD shows up, went with loss because they need 1 more to light the fire under their butts, bunch of prima donnas think talent alone is enough and hard work isn't needed ;)
KC @ SD - W - No comment needed.
SD @ PIT - L - Nagging injuries + no Shawne Merriman = Loss.
IND @ SD - W - This is a toss up too, but went with Win because SD owns Indy.
ATL @ SD - W - If this game were in Atlanta it would be a loss.
OAK @ SD - W - No comment needed.
SD @ KC - W - No comment needed.
SD @ TB - L - Tampa has a good D, Gates/LT not 100%.
DEN @ SD - W - SD is going to be looking for payback in this one.
= 6 more wins, 3 more losses = SD 9-7

Miami - LOSS - Wildcat and Pennington destroy us. People begin predicting Broncos to lose all remaining games.
@ Cleveland - WIN - Crap run game, and they help us in the pass game by dropping the ball all the time.
@ Atlanta - LOSS - Run game too dominant, we lose in a blowout.
Oakland - WIN - Our house, and our defense looks like it did vs Tampa. We start to rock.
@ NY Jets - WIN - Bailey comes back, Favre goes INT happy.
Kansas city - WIN - Larry Johnson shows up drunk.
@ Carolina - WIN - They're too tampa-like, and their one weapon is covered by Bailey.
Buffalo - WIN - Buffalo has been exposed by now, we blow em out.
@ San Diego - LOSS - We trade wins.
10-6 and we win the West.
I see 6 losses... That puts us at 7-9, Add in a bonus win and that puts us at8-8

Odds are it'll all come down to the San Diego game, and I'm not overly optimistic about that going our way.
We'll still win some games. Our offense will pick it back up again after the bye when we get Stokely, Scheff, Young and Torain (no, I'm not proclaiming him the next messiah, but I 100% assure you he'll be better than Hall) back. I think a break is just what Jay needs too, help him clear his head and re-focus.
San Diego also has a tough enough schedule so I see them going into the game 8-7 or 9-6 at the very best. We meanwhile should be around 8-7 by my reckoning.
Our loss to KFC means that the Chargers would take the tie-break if we split the series, so the game at Qualcomm will be a virtual playoff game.
The key is getting Cutler turned back around. The rest will follow. Our defense is not going to cut it this year. If that's the case, we need to stick some of these young bucks in there and see who catches fire and can play. That means Larsen, WW, and Jack.
Nut cuttin time. Time to show some heart. Time for the vets (Cutler,Marshall) to step up and LEAD this team. Not make stupid statements to the media and contribute to the problems with their turnovers.

As in my previous thread on the same topic, 6-10. But even that may be optimistic with Champ out.

The best possible is 7-9 as this team can not, and will not, win more than 3 more games. Those of you suggesting 8 or more wins really, really need to adjust your expectations. This team is terrible and there's very little to be optimistic about.

4-12.
Not unreasonable, unfortunately. But I think we'll find a way to win 1 or 2 some how some way, which is why I say 6-10.
To me this was Shanahan's last chance to prove he was still capable of building and coaching a competitive NFL team. After last year I decided he had to go at least 8-8, and preferably 9-7, this year or I would be done with him. I think it's time for him to go. It's time to move forward. It's not working and I don't think it ever will.

Whelp I am backing down to 7-9 now. At least Baiely could shut down half the field with our pass rush being the major suckitude it is. Now he is out for a while. Bly and Paymah suck balls. JMFW is too new.
Worst defense in the NFL maybe ever might be on the horizon. I hate being pessimistic but hearing the carnage report just sunk my feelings.

That is great analysis of that game. The power running and double blocks on the DL at the POA allowed the NE RB's to get 5 yards down field before being touched on 13 of their runs. Several of those they were not touched until they passed 10 yards down field. They deliberately allowed the LB's to have a gap knowing they could open a huge hole for the RB right next to the LB filling the vacated opening. The times they got into the backfield the RB just sidestepped the penetration and got HUGE gains.
This DL can not stop a power running game or in this case even limit it. The LB's are not good enough tacklers to make a play that does not hit them head on in the gap. Then, the safeties take even worse angles when the Gap opens and they are out of position. That puts the defense in a sticky situation. IF they can not play with a lead, they will get dominated on the ground like JAX and NE did to them. If they get a lead, they can not stay consistent in their pass rush. The two games they were looking good in the pass rush were not games they had a large lead.
At this point, they have a lot to correct. The good news is they get the bye week to make the corrections. I just hope they have a few tricks left up their sleeve. Otherwise, the rest of this year will be very ugly. Personally, I think they play very well for a few weeks after the Bye and then run into the same problems all over again. At least, MIA does not a have passing offense to take advantage of missing Champ.

I'm saying 10-6. We loose one while champ is gone and Torain tears it up. The last game of the year is the one that scares me. I really don't want to play that game for the division, so I really hope this team can get their crap together and pull it out. I know that Champ is a huge factor, but this D needs to pull together

Our biggest problem isn't something you can cure with a band-aid. I agree effort attitude needs to be better but, how much can that cure what the obvious issues are we lack talent we are small and overrated speed wise. No matter what we do we can still be pushed around at will so its hard for any team to not let down.

I hope it doesn't come down to the SD game for the division... we will not win that one.

If they continue to play like Monday night and against KC, we're looking at 4-12.

4-12? No way. I really don't think you guys are that bad. You have the injury bug now like SD has, and I think we're all realizing how injuries to key players really makes a difference. I think when you get all your offensive weapons back you'll be back to scoring a bunch of points again. Now the Defense, I don't know what you're going to do about that. Just try to outscore everyone else I guess, much like the Dan Fouts-Air Coryell years! ;)

You're too kind.
But seriously, the injuries aren't the only problem this offense has. Other teams have figured us out. We can't do what we did the first 3 games, that ship has sailed. Getting Scheffler and Stokely back will help a little but it's not like we're missing a coupld of Pro Bowlers.
The defense? We can't stop anybody, and NE just provided a blueprint to bludgeoning us with the running game. Mostly because of the D we will struggle to win every game, and probably lose most of them. That's the reality of the situation that people need to grasp. Anybody who thinks this team has a shot at being >.500 is delusional or clueless. Or both.

Problem is offense is struggling and also pressing. I think they know what we knew its up to them to win games and make all the plays so they are uptight not relaxed.

Yep, and if they can't score more than 7 on a mediocre NE defense it's hard to be confident.

After hearing about Champ's injury (screw Boss I knew he would go down for the season sooner or later) I predict only two more wins (Oak and KC at home). Teams could successfully throw for 300 yards on half a field, imagine what they can do with an entire field.
