ANOTHER FINE FRIDAY
Posted by Mike Florio on October 17, 2008, 5:01 p.m.
It’s Friday, and so it’s time for a handful of NFL players to make their contributions to the Human Fund. Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network, there are three big ones this week.
Most notably, Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter has been fined $20,000 for criticizing game officials after the team’s loss to the Texans.
Broncos cornerback Dre’ Bly also will be forking over 20 large to the league for inappropriate criticism of game officials.
Bly had this to say after a Denver’s loss to the Jaguars: “The first couple of games, I guess they’ve been evaluating us and saying we won games we shouldn’t have won. So I guess they’re going to get a call against us.” (Teammate Jamie Winborn apparently won’t be fined, even though his criticism of the officials was arguably even more inflammatory. “That call was a killer,” Winborn said as to a disputed pass interference penalty. “It was a terrible, terrible call, but still we had a chance to stop them.”)
But the “winner” is Rams guard Richie Incognito, who’ll pay a total of $35,000 for verbal abuse of a game official ($25,000), a major facemask penalty ($5,000), and a chop block ($5,000).

It was a pretty stupid remark by Bly. He got baited and fell hook, line and sinker.

I dont agree with Florio that Winborn's comment was worse. I thnk the league took offense to Bly's suggestion that the officials are involved in some conspiracy against Denver after the San Diego game.

At least Dre was absolutely in the right in his complaint. Winborn's correct, that call was a killer. Without that flag, we had maybe a 20% chance to tie it up. With that flag, game over.

I'm sorry, but the NFL is getting out of hand. Can't celebrate, can't bitch about ref's, it's just getting fricken ridiculous. Sure most players make good money, but still, I think it is going overboard.

Perhaps he can pick up some hours at Tatum's cell phone store to help pay this fine.

We don't fumble those two times and we win that game. I also like how Shanahan said we had chances to win the game despite the call. Compare that to Norv Turner who looked like he was going to burst into tears and is still upset about it. Bad calls are a part of sports.

I thought this was going to be how Bly got fined for impersonating, at times, a corner back.

I just think the refs are sensitive and didn't expect to be criticized when they took the job it totally took em by suprise.

This is retarted. The officials are such morons here. We all know that hold on Clady was bull**** and the contact on Bly was more bull****. It's rediculous to fine players for comments to officials, what a bunch of pu$$ies

You can't overly celebrate or b***** about the refs at any level of football, be it the pros, college or high school, so fines to squelch such things are really no surprise. Just saying.

Excesive celebrations are stupid, do your thing and go to the bench.

Exactly how much it too much? that's why i propose a celebration clock similar to the play clock the second the TD is scored it starts go beyond a certain time and you get fined and it has to be payed before the player leaves the stadium. ;D

Well, we certainly know that Dre will NEVER get a fine for a late hit, early hit, outta bounds hit, jaw rattling hit, helmet to helmet hit, or any other kinda hit ala John Lynch, that would set the tempo and put some fire in this defense. So, why not run your mouth???

The NFL can't handle the truth... so they fine you.

The Broncos just need to hold onto the damn ball on offense, stop the other teams more than two times a game on defense, and quit putting themselves in these situations.

Shanahan bent over backwards praising NFL officiating crews after week 2, so what else is he gonna do?
