Patriots left tackle Matt Light did not participate in today's practice due to a knee injury, according to the team's participation report. Light went wire to wire in Sunday's loss to the Chargers.

A look at the complete report:

Did Not Participate in Practice

LB Eric Alexander (hamstring)
DE Jarvis Green (right ankle)
RB LaMont Jordan (right calf)
LT Matt Light (knee)
RT Nick Kaczur (right ankle)
RB Laurence Maroney (shoulder)
WR Kelley Washington (right ankle)

FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his Wednesday press conference (10:45-11 a.m.) and media members had access to the locker room (11-11:45 a.m.) today at Gillette Stadium. Here were a few nuggets of note:

1) Cross between a Monday/Wednesday schedule. With an extra day to prepare for Monday night's game against the Broncos, the Patriots have a different type of schedule today. Normally, Wednesday would be a focus-solely-on-the-next-opponent day, but the Patriots also took time this morning to go over corrections from the Chargers game. That would normally take place on a Monday, but since the Patriots didn't have a normal Monday schedule this week upon their return from San Diego, it was a mix of looking back and looking ahead today.

2) Deltha O'Neal and the long ball. Cornerback Deltha O'Neal, who waved off reporters after Sunday's loss, spoke with media members for the first time since he was beaten on 48- and 49-yard pass plays. He said he took the performance hard, but that he's committed to having a short-term memory partly because he expects the Broncos to test him deep. O'Neal felt he was in position to make both plays, and that nine times out of 10 he would either intercept or at least break up those passes.

3) Happy returns for Stephen Neal and Oliver Ross. Both guard Stephen Neal and tackle Oliver Ross talked about practicing for the first time with the team. "I'm pretty excited," Neal said. Ross, number 76 on the Patriots' roster, said: "It's the first time going out there in a while, so you get to knock the rust off a little bit."

4) Laurence Maroney in focus. It did not look like running back Laurence Maroney had been in the locker room at all, as his travel luggage was there, and his chair remained folded up in his locker.

From time to time, we’ll take a look at the snaps played by defensive players, as it can sometimes provide a greater understanding of how the team is employing its personnel. A look at the snaps played in Sunday’s 30-10 loss to the Chargers:

LB Adalius Thomas – 59 of 59 snaps
S Rodney Harrison – 55 of 59
S James Sanders – 54 of 59
DL Ty Warren – 53 of 59
CB Ellis Hobbs – 52 of 59
DL Vince Wilfork – 51 of 59
DL Richard Seymour – 48 of 59
CB Deltha O’Neal – 46 of 59
LB Jerod Mayo – 43 of 59
DL Mike Wright – 38 of 59
S Brandon Meriweather – 34 of 59
LB Mike Vrabel – 30 of 59
LB Tedy Bruschi – 26 of 59
CB/S Lewis Sanders – 14 of 59
CB Terrence Wheatley – 14 of 59
DL Le Kevin Smith – 11 of 59
LB Gary Guyton – 9 of 59
DL Jarvis Green – 5 of 59
LB Pierre Woods – 3 of 59
CB Jonathan Wilhite – 1 of 59

ANALYSIS: The Patriots played the majority of the game with a four-man line, two linebackers and five defensive backs. The two linebackers most often used in that package are Adalius Thomas and Jerod Mayo, hence the lower snap numbers for Mike Vrabel and Tedy Bruschi. … When Jarvis Green was injured early in the first quarter, that thrust Mike Wright into a more active role as the fourth lineman, as his 38 snaps were a season high. … Adalius Thomas played every snap for the second straight game. ... Of the 29 Chargers’ pass attempts – which includes two defensive penalties – the Patriots rushed the standard four players 20 times, rushed five players seven times; and rushed six players twice.

A look at the positional groupings utilized by the Patriots in their 30-10 loss to the Chargers:

3 WR/1 TE/1 RB – 33 of 68
2 WR/2 TE/1 RB – 13 of 68
2 WR/1 TE/1 FB/1 RB – 12 of 68
3 TE/1 FB/1 RB – 5 of 68
4 WR/1 RB – 3 of 68
2 WR/1 TE/2 RB – 2 of 68

ANALYSIS: In searching for matchups they liked, the Patriots had the most success by going to the 2 WR/1 TE/1 FB/1 RB package at the start of the second half, and using it with an “empty” formation as QB Matt Cassel was alone behind center in the shotgun. They had that grouping on for eight straight plays – working against the Chargers’ nickel – and chewed up yardage quickly to set up the key stretch of plays in the game, the four plays from the 1 and 2 yard-line. Cassel was intercepted out of that grouping on the team's second series of the third quarter. … The 3 TE/1 FB/1 RB package, with Mike Vrabel as the third tight end, was on the field for all four plays that couldn’t punch it into the end zone. The Patriots might have considered using OL Russ Hochstein as a fullback to get a bit heavier, but with Hochstein as the lone reserve lineman at that point because of Nick Kaczur’s right ankle injury, they stayed with Heath Evans. … Of the 33 snaps in the base 3 WR/1 TE/1 RB package, 22 came on the final three drives when the Patriots were facing a 20-plus point deficit.

A look at the snaps played by offensive skill-position players in the Patriots' 30-10 loss to the Chargers:

WR Randy Moss -- 61 of 68 snaps
WR Wes Welker -- 61 of 68
TE Benjamin Watson -- 51 of 68
RB Sammy Morris -- 39 of 68
WR Jabar Gaffney -- 38 of 68
TE David Thomas -- 31 of 68
RB Kevin Faulk -- 24 of 68
FB Heath Evans -- 17 of 68
TE Mike Vrabel -- 5 of 68
WR Sam Aiken -- 3 of 68
RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis -- 3 of 68

ANALYSIS: With Laurence Maroney and LaMont Jordan inactive, Sammy Morris took the majority of the running back snaps (39), as expected. While Kevin Faulk had 24 snaps, 15 of them came on the final three drives, an indication that Morris was leaned on heavily early. ... Of Heath Evans' 17 snaps, 12 came on one drive -- the first march of the second half, when he was on the field for every play. ... BenJarvus Green-Ellis played the final three snaps of the game. ... Wes Welker once again played in most two-wide sets, which explains why his snap count is higher than Jabar Gaffney.

Deltha owes us for screwing up our only loss to the Patriots. This is a karma game.

We should win this game. Not only are we the better team right now, but we've also long been Patriot Kryptonite.

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are holding their afternoon practice at the field behind Gillette Stadium. The team is practicing in full-pads for the first time this week, and the same seven players who sat out yesterday's practice were not spotted during the media access portion of today's practice:

RB Laurence Maroney
RB LaMont Jordan
WR Kelley Washington
LB Eric Alexander
RT Nick Kaczur
DL Jarvis Green
CB Jonathan Wilhite

The media was present for stretching and the start of positional drills, which included punter Chris Hanson working with Matthew Slater, Lewis Sanders and others on pooch punts that can be downed deep in the opponent's territory.

Well. here's to going deep on Deltha!

He is going to be trying not to get burnt deep and should give up several 15 yd outs/comebacks etc.

After losing to the chiefs (AKA the worst team of all times) I dont go into any game thinking we SHOULD win.

That is the way I look at it but I thought that after the NO game and figured with the defense that Denver has every game is a potential loss.
