View Full Version : When Wade Phillips is fired............

if you were Pat Bowlen/Shanny would you extend an olive branch to Wade to see if he would be interested in coming back to Denver to install his 3-4 defense in the 2009 season? I personally would offer Phillips the job in a heartbeat---he may have some hesitation to come back to Denver after Pat fired him in 1995, but I think that an offer should be made. Since we don't have the horses up front , we should attempt to deliver a pass rush via scheme instead. Wade is a great coordinator regardless of his failures as headcoach.

Or maybe just get Rod Marinelli to coach our D-line after he gets his walking papers from Detroit.

He'll get offered big $ to head coach Syracuse or some other struggling NCAA program with deep pockets.

I guarantee he would laugh if they offered him that job. His departure was not a positive memory.
Besides you have to stick with your DC for more than a year. Its one of the reasons our defense sucks ass. They drafted Crowder and Moss to fit bates system. They aren't working out with Slowik's. Its retarded how many times they have changed coordinators.

We would not have fired a successful DC. Every DC that walked needed to.

No I'd rather have Joel Collier, Joe's kid...after he got bounced in New England for no good reason after last year. He's learned under his dad and Bellicheat and has ties to Colorado having gone to school at UNC. Check it out...

Point taken except maybe in regards to Coyer. I know that is a very unpopular sentiment around here but he got a lot out of crap. Yeah he was exposed but I think it exposes the draft miscues more. Just my opinion though.
Anybody else think to themselves on Sunday man it would be nice to still have Reggie Hayward after we saw him bust through the line a few times.

Reggie is not that good. If he was the Jags would not have given a kings ransom for the FL DE and taken another in the 2nd.

Coyer is the only guy who was in a gray area in regards to DC needing to leave. However the D he fielded was significantly more talented than the current one. Al Wilson was better than any player on our current D sans champ.

He is on par with EE in terms of production. But I would not cry if we had 4 EE on this team

He was a better MLB than DJ Williams by far but I don't think he was a better LB than DJ Williams.
You are right though Coyer did have a little better in regards to players but thats like saying well it isn't the runs but its still poop.

Wade isn't/wasn't a bad coordinator. As a head coach, he just doesn't have what it takes to put a team over the top.

I think he is a great coordinator. I would love to have him running our D but we all know he will never come back to Denver.

The only plays he made all game were 5+ yds past the line of scrimmage, not behind it.

Why? He was very complimentary of Denver when he returned during the preseason.

Wilson was a Better LB. The Proof is in the 4 Pro Bowls and the fact that his presence made the Defenses Better. He leaves and we are tops in the league in worst defence!!

Keep DJ at his natural Weak side and he would be at just as many Pro-Bowls. DJ is the best all around LB. Wilson is the best MLB out of the 2.

Sadly, that is still 5 yards better than Denver's DEs.

The DC job is like the teachers job for the dark arts class in Harry Potter. Every year there is a new person. If I was a DC I dont think I would want to sign here, unless someone thinks seeing Coyer,Bates, then Slowik(if we got a new DC) all fired in the last three years looks apealing.

4-A MLB that has to be gameplanned for

Its hard to say if 'Son of Bum' is a 'great' coordinator.. maybe a 'good' coordinator.
But it helps to have the horses when you are a defense coach.
And right now with the Denver Defense... they don't have the horses.

Marvin Lewis should be fired soon.
Wade isn't/wasn't a bad coordinator. As a head coach, he just doesn't have what it takes to put a team over the top.
Alot of people said that about Cowher and Dungy also and they finally got one after several years as a HC. There's proably a whole lotta guys that didn't win a Superbowl until late in their coaching careers. To suggest Wade could never win one is speculation at best. It's not like he puts crappy teams out on the field. He usually does pretty good. I think he's one of the better HC's out there actually.

No one should be lumped with Dave Wannstedt. That moron lost to Navy last year when they could have won it near the end. I saw it with my own eyes. Dude is in a (D) league all by himself. Phillips wins games at least.

It is what it is John....the guy can field a better than average/great defense as a coordinator in the pros, but put him at the helm as HC and it's tank time. One or two (at max) winning seasons (usually just after taking over from somebody else) and then it's a full on crash and burn..........just like Wade Phillips.
I'm buying the notion he's gone after the year....he's too much of a pansy players coach to deal with that cast of clowns effectively for too long.

if Slowik is still here next season, than someone had better kick Shanahan in the stones.
also, we have been running Slowik's scheme more than a year, he was basically calling the shots since midway through last season, and we still suck.
time to ****can him and bring in a good Coordinator.
