Ugh. This is a tough one, especially after they wasted my birthday Karma.
That said, here are a few things of note...
-Pittman really is our best option at RB right now. I don't know how long he can carry the load, but there's no question we're more effective with him taking 1st/2nd down carries. I think eve when Young is healthy, he should start... and maybe we'll see what Torain's got.
-Martinez is a pretty good kick returner. I almost wonder if we keep him on punt returns after this.
-Webster is a little inconsistent, but he's making some big plays each week. We need to draft a real MLB, but you have to admire the guy's effort week to week.
-We put a few blitz packages out there that seemed effective. Same as last week. I'd like to see that continue. Again, most QBs can't move around like Gerard, and it's tough for most guys to beat that kind of pressure. (Matt Cassel, for example.)
-As bad as our defense was, we gave the offenses multiple chances to take back control of the game. We all know this D isn't going to be dominant. A solid late-game effort and a few big stops SHOULD be enough for our offense to win games.
-Special teams coverage looked good, and the kicking game remains very strong. It's easy to let this go unnoticed when it's going well, but we should give a little props when its due.
-Home crowd did a great job again. Sure feels more like the old stadium, at least from watching on TV.
-The O-line gave Cutler lots of time today and opened up plenty of running lanes. I continue to be impressed with how fast this line has come together, given the new additions.
Anything I'm missing?

Yea, Jay can't blame his problems today on pass protection.... at least most of them.
I think some credit has to go to Jville for putting together a pretty good defense for us today. That said, we also helped them along quite a bit.

Instead of pausing my dvr, I waited for Garrard to go back to pass, I was able to walk into my kitchen pour me a drink walk back in the living room and finish watching the play by Garrard throw a pass to a wide open receiver. Oh wait , thats negative. My bad. I thought Webster had a good physical game, along with Pittman. The o-line can't get enough credit for what they've been doing all year.

1.) I didn't notice Nate's helmet fly off, and he actually had a decent game.
2.) Clady continues to impress
3.) Pittman should start, unless Torian is as good as the hype.

I have been waiting all season for them to notice that. I thought with the ref being moved over to the side of the line of scrimmage we would be getting a lot of calls about him getting held.

Somehow I doubt a guy that didn't play any preseason football and hasn't done any meaningful work in 8 weeks now can come in and be the next Clinton Portis. We'll have to be patient and hope that we can make a playoff run so he can work his way into the lineup.

Moss had three sightings -- one was a fake to the outside followed by a nice inside spin move, but Gerrard threw the ball after a quick three steps. He had a nice bullrush that got close to the QB. And the QB sneak, which was a great play call, DJ got pushed out by Jones, but Moss was right there too.
Hey, he is making at least some progress

Pittman was excellent as was the offensive line once again.
Michael carried the ball 20 times and IMHO if he'd have had 5-10 more carries instead of the Marshall gameplan we may have at least taken the game to overtime.
You have to adjust your gameplan when 75% of your decent receivers are sidelined.

This game was a great example of a young team playing young football and making some silly mistakes. This is not a game to get down on. These guys are still going to have games like this this year. It's a learning curve. If you actually thought these guys were completely ready to compete at this stage, you were kidding yourself... right now we get some serious glimpses of what is to come, and some glimpses of some of the mistakes that a young team is still apt to make. We beat ourselves in this game. It's a loss I don't mind seeing at this stage because it's part of the process. After watching it and seeing that even with two (three after stokely) offensive starters on the sideline, this team still able move the ball, I am not overly concerned with the loss. I saw a lot of young guys playing with a lot of passion, that at times got in the way of them really playing as smart as they should. But at all times they were trying to make things happen, and I just won't fault them for that. Even though this game comes up a loss in the records, I think it was a step forward. This was not a painful loss for me.

I do worry a bit that we're at a turning point. Shanahan really needs to dig into his bag of tricks to keep the mood positive on this team, and try to recapture momentum.
I guess I've said it a million times, now.... but we MUST improve as the season goes on. We have to get better and snowball momentum into next season.
The NE game now turns into what one might call the first must-win for us this year. Not necessarily from a standings perspective, though that matters.... but from a psyche perspective.

Good solid post.
My perspective?
Jay's still going through growing pains. He's been decent over the past few weeks but not lighting the world on fire. Not surprisingly this coincides with his targets being dinged up like crazy. He's still staring at BMarsh but its from him not having anybody else to throw to. He needs to get better at reading defenses. I think that much has been acknowledged over the past 3 weeks.
HB position is in transition. Pittman looked solid today but we all know he's not the long term answer. Neither is Hall or Young. Nice players but not guys that are going to carry an offense. I'm really interested to see if Torain can come in and be this year's Ryan Grant. That's a lot of pressure on somebody but it should be interesting. I hope we find a solution that way we can go in another direction come draft time.
WR's are banged up. BMarsh is potentially great, needs to be smarter with the ball in his hand. We should have a TD on his fumble, that changes the whole game. Same with all the other turnovers and missed opportunities. We need Eddie Royal back. He helps out tremendously. Stokely is what I thought he was: a nice 4th down WR. He's great when you can limit him to 3rd down plays, roughly about 10-15 plays per game. Anything more and you'll run him into the ground and waste him for part of the season. DJack didn't look healthy in this game. He was just playing because we needed bodies. Glen Martinez is a tireless worker. It's fun to watch him play even if he isn't the best WR out there. Bottom line in my opinion is we need to keep surrounding Jay with weapons. I think we need to take another WR in the 1st-3rd round area this year in the draft.
OL looked great. I thought they did an excellent job opening running lanes against a decent defensive front along with keeping guys off Jay's back. He held the ball a long time some plays too.
DL looked decent. Didn't get to watch them as much but I do like Kenny Peterson. He plays hard and is versatile.
LB played hard I thought. I'm going to get sick of watching Boss fall on the ground with an injury every other series but I thought these guys played with a lot of fire. Webster was laying down some hits. DJ was his consistent self. I wonder what happened on the long MJD run and who blew their gap.
Lack of TO's from the secondary is troublesome. I know some of that onus falls on the DL but seriously, we have Bly and Champ out there. Make a break on a ball and make a play. Besides that I thought Champ looked good in run defense (as always). Our safeties are garbage.
If the draft were run today I would go:
1. SS
2. DT
3. WR
4. DE/OLB - pass rusher - 3-4
5. HB - Depends on Torain. If he doesn't impress, this will move up.
6. TE - We have two injury prone players in Jackson (been healthy this year, knock on wood) and Scheff. We need more out of this position.
I do worry a bit that we're at a turning point. Shanahan really needs to dig into his bag of tricks to keep the mood positive on this team, and try to recapture momentum.

I agree, we have to find a way to get to the bye week at 5-2 and get some of our guys healthy.

I'm going to get sick of watching Boss fall on the ground with an injury every other series.
I was just about to suggest that we have a drinking game where everyone is compelled to take a shot every time a) Webster's helmet comes off, b) the broadcasters mention The Beetus, c) Boss gets assisted off the field, d) the DE's get their dicks stomped on and d) a first down pass play is completed with the camera immediately panning to Manuel. :)
It will be one way to make watching our defense a little more enjoyable.

Well most of us thought this team was still building. I honestly wouldn't have said Denver would be 4-2 at this point. So for me this season is a treat. Its almost like Denver in 1995. On the verge of breaking through but short a few pieces. I just hope they continue to draft well and build a nasty defense.

I agree I didn't have high expectations for the yr. It's just once the games start I forget about expectations because I get so excited to watch Broncos play football. It's just so frustrating when Broncos lose because they make stupid mistakes, but i guess it is better then losing because they have no talent whatsoever.

We're now one of the top 10 rushing teams.
#10 in overall yards per game.
#5 in yards per carry. Far above Peterson's Vikings, Portis's Redskins and ahead of Gore's 49'ers.
All that while ranking just #25th in attempts. Tell Shannahan to run more and we can safely keep our D off the field :)

O looked great the first drive
Special Teams
Peterson got a sack and almost another
I NOTICED Moss had a nice spin move on one play and a bull rush on another.
Pittman did great
O-line did good
Webster did good and his helmet stayed on(he did take a couple bad angles on some plays but no biggie compared to overall play.)
Boss was only injured about 3 times
We did a couple all out blitzes
Our Safetys got a nice breeze for every tackle they whiffed on
Marshall had a couple fun catches to watch
Stone hand Graham caught a td pass
Shoe Bomber looked good on punt returns even though he got pulled down by the punter with one hand.
I thought the D did enough for us to win, getting 2 turnovers. Which basically evened out the turnovers since I think the Jay int at the 5 was more of a punt. We would have punted if it wasnt complete anyways. I always thought we would need 30 to win and the D played above my expectations:( (very low), because we only needed 25.
