View Full Version : We need to start pressuring QB's to throw INTs

We only have 2 INT's through 6 games, trending 5 INT's for the year!!!
The first was was with Champ against San Diego, and that shouldn't have been an INT as we all know.
And the other is by Robertson, which he ended up fumbling.
It's a scheme problem if anyone can analytically watch our defense play. For 1, we don't get enough pressure on the QB to throw contested passes, and 2 we have 3 or 4 LB's every down even if there is 3 or 4 WR's in the game!!!
I mean are you kidding me? With 3 or 4 LB's we can blitz, but we don't! Slowik still runs 2DT 1DE pass rushes!!!
This is why we give up so many third downs, and third and longs.
WE are expecting out Safties to cover, when we know they can't.
If McCree plays the ball on that last play, there would have been no flag thrown. If Manual can keep up with ANYONE, we'd limit some passes.
I agree, we don't have the best talented D in the league, but we aren't putting them in the best position to use what they have either.
Manual needs to get out honestly...I haven't seen him make a play in a WHILE.

I HATE the fact that teams don't even throw at Bailey anymore. He's pretty much the only player on defense who can make game-changing plays and he NEVER gets a chance.
Bly is getting worked badly.

We allow them to not throw to Bailey because they can wait for other receivers to open up.
Even when Bailey had his 8 and 10 interception season, we couldn't get pressure but our scheme was different... we actually played man-man.

well from the time J'Ville put up 24 to that last drive the D was very good. That was/is the kind of scheme that forces turnovers.
Lesson learned...when we were aggressive today, good things happened most of the time...when we rushed 3 and gave Garrard all the time he wanted, bad things happened.

We played man during that time period and blitzed (pretty obvious and straight forward, but it worked)...
Where was that during the rest of the game and season?

Yeah, we saw more success when we played some man and blitzed a bit.
Not that we'll learn from that or anything, fully expect the soft zone BS with a 3 man rush to be on full display again next Monday.

It's not a stellar D. Yah, one INT, that by a DL player, is woeful. They have their moments, but pass D isn't working well. This Slowik family (Bob and Ryan) are not doing well. The D is giving up a lot of points, most of them in the 2nd half.

The offense should try to score everytime they get they get the ball too.
Anything else the Broncos should do?

I watched the defensive ends today just get pancacked time after time. I like Dumerville and he's probably our best DE at getting to the QB, but he gets pounded into the ground alot. Engleberger gets stopped in his tracks every down, Moss is MIA, but willing to give him more time to show something. I sure didnt like the Bates experiment with lighter/ quicker DE's, I think they are more of a liability than anything. I know it worked for him with Jason Taylor , but I'd rather have bigger guys that can rush the QB & can take on the run.

Can we just change the thread title to:

Well, it's obvious... but when you're smacked over the head with it week after week, it's tough not to get frustrated. Maybe this thread isn't all that original, but he's making a valid point. We really are wasting a HOF corner in this defense.

I'm pretty tired of trying to cover opposing teams WR's with our SS it hasn't worked all year. Both our safeties suck monkey balls... We aren't aggresive at all on defense 3rd and longs are pretty much guaranteed vs us.

i say bring some pressure from the LB's and blitz and play man coverage. I am sick of seeing our DB's playing 10 yards off the WR. We have speed at the LB position, we need to use it. Our Corners are best used in man coverage, we need to use them that way.
Honestly with our players we need Coyer's defense back. Agressive with the corners blanketing the receivers. What's the worst that could happen if they did this? we might give up a big play, but we are doing that now. I see no dowbside to using our players in a way the maximizes their talent.

Yeah, this cat is a little late to the party.
If we had a decent DL over the past 5 seasons, we would likely have another Lombardi trophy on the shelf.
Having Champ Bailey doesnt help when it doesnt matter who is on the other side of the field. These are pro QB's were talking about here.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious but it seems like Slowik doesn't believe in it. We are waiting for the QB to make a mistake rather than trying to create it.
We actually rush 3 guys, 2 beings DT's....are you ****ing kidding me?

I've been at the party... you're just too drunk off your ass to realize it.
Anyone can make that comment about having another trophy on the shelf "IF WE HAD __________"
The point I'm making is, we aren't even trying to blitz...

The pressure isn't coming. We don't have the personnel. It's not even just our line, which we all know sucks, but who on our roster do you think is a decent blitzer? DJ is ok I guess, but that's it.
What we need to do is change our coverage, because this garbage is obviously not going to work without pressure that we simply cannot generate. We need to play man, or we need to jump routes. We're built to not give up the big play, but we do that anyway so what's the point in staying with what we've got? It hasn't shown a thing. People rag on Bly but the majority of the time he's sitting in a soft zone; if a receiver leaves the zone he leaves the zone, and Dre has to more or less let him go. The few times we play man our guys seem to be on people very well. Champ got beat a couple times by perfect passes from Rivers and Dry was the victim of a couple great throws today, but by and large these guys can play man well. Give them a damn chance to show it, I say.

I don't know where you guys are coming from on this thread.
The problem is the 3 man rush - we need that extra guy back in coverage. I say we break out the old Ray Rhodes rush 2 drop 9 in coverage scheme back to add a new wrinkle to the defense.

If you do a search on this thread title I think you would find multiple threads on this dating back to the origination of the Mane. Do you really expect any kind of pass rush with John Engleberger on the DL?

With the way Clady is playing I say we just keep lining up people in practice and the first one that gets by him is on the team:afro:

Bring back Coyer and his aggressive blitzing defense. Not sure why he was let go, seemed to be doing a decent job to me.
Could've gotten the Jags out of their style of play by bringing alot of pressure.

I agree with this. When we do blitz its often unimaginative and telegraphed.

and you need players than can beat a man one on one. The only one that can is Elvis so we must send 7-8 guys or blitzing is pointless for this D.
