What's your preference and why?

I recently bought a 42 inch plasma and love it...but was considering a 26 or 32 inch lcd for the bedroom.

Here's what I have in the living room...

The question is simple: Over 42 inches, Plasma because LCD's go up in price considerably.

I would NEVER buy a plasma myself. The extra weight, and glare, along with lack of really bright brights would make me regret the purchase forever.

Plasmas are only really better if you're on a buget, want big, and want to play lots of video games (plasmas are better for fast motion unless you get a 120hz LCD)

I own a 57'' LCD 120hz Toshiba, it's amazing. I wouldn't trade it for the world. Theres a reason LCD's are reccomended almost 10 to 1 over plasmas.

That and Plasma is almost dead. Give it 3 or 4 more years and they'll be a forgotten technology.

Hmmm...I'm not seeing any of the
"complaints" yet...I'm loving my plasma so far...

Seriously? Any LCD I've looked at has been less expensive...

Big LCD's are considerably more expensive than Plasma. My LCD would have been ~6,000 if I didnt get it on clearance.

Plasma has that big glass panel in the front which has many drawbacks like weight and glare.

Samsung are the best LCD tv's especially if you get 120hz. They blow away sony bravias.....

Best is a very relative term. Models differ very greately between TV's. If you're picking one out you have to compare side by side. I reccomend taking your Blu-ray player or xbox or whatever you use the most to the store with you and fiddling with each TV.

Stores have a tendancy to make models they dont want to sell look worse with bad settings, and ones they one to sell look better.

I dont know , when I was a kid , my Dad bought a Curtis Mathis TV , had the record player 8 track tape the whole 9 yards , that TV finally went out when I was in my 20 's , today the longest I have had a TV last is 4 years

I bought a Samsung LN52A550 this summer. It's awesome. 52" LCD. The screen has a matte finish so there's low glare in case you're in a bright room. That series tested better than the comparable Bravia's from what I've read.

As far as negatives for plasma, I've heard they're sensitive and damage relatively easily. If you play video games that have a static image on the screen (i.e. a compass or health bar or something), the image can get burned into the screen. They go out in 5 years (again, just what I've heard from several people). On the other hand, LCD's last for 10+ years depending on how long you have it on per day of course.

I'm still looking for a TV. I'm interested in the KBL-40XBR6 (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665532056). I'm waiting on the price to drop below 2k, hopefully around Christmas it will do so.

It's hard to find a top quality TV in Japan. Off base the TV's are way too much and on base they have a small selection.

I have to ask if AAFES would make a special order and buy the 40 inch XBR6 for me.

Didn't ask, but they got a brand new TV in. It's expensive ($2100). It's the 46Z4100. It's nice, but i'm not going to pay that much when the XBR6's are a 100 or 2 more.

I might just go with the 40V4100, it's $1300.

I went LCD based on my elevation and the fact that glare is less of a problem. I have a very bright living room so it was important to me and Plasma has trouble at high elevations.

i own 4 lcds ... 2 x 32' a 42' and a 30'
Plasma is 1970s technology ... Lcd is better period ...
Plasma has xenon and neon gas in it that can effect lifespan of the Tv.
Places are just about giving away Plasmas to get them outa their stores these days ... LCD .. period ...

Hmmm....in comparison, looking at the clarity of pics...the Plasma is clearer...at least in the larger screens...but I'll probably get a smaller LCD>

only people who don't own them say that ... elitist ....:poke: :poke: :poke: :wiggle:

for a bed room who cares . i watch the vizios more then my sony and you can't tell the difference with HD signal ..and at half the price i bought 2 . i could care less about name brands .... i read stats ... and olivia and vizios are just as good as big names from the refresh times to the blacks ... there is only like 5 places that makes LCD , they all have the same screens ... and with the money i saved i bought 2 instead of one and mounted them one on top of the other and got 5 years in house service ...
Olivia is what meck has on the bus ... the gray one ...

Any recommendations on best places to purchase? Or online who has the best shipping/insurance as well? I am thinking of getting a 42" Samsung LCD, but don't know which model is best or if there is any place better to get it either on line or at a store. I am also trying to decide between Wii and PS3 (leaning towards the PS3), an IPhone (ATT) or Samsung Instinct (Sprint) phones. Any recommendations are appreciated.

I bought mine new from Amazon.com. It was actually a private seller on Amazon, not Amazon itself. They have their own store and everything. Anyway, it was cheaper than all the sellers on eBay, and I knew I was safe and covered in case anything went wrong. And remember, no sales tax from online purchases!
