Which team is your most despised?

Mine is definately Nebraska.

And to think, I used to live there and root for the cornhuksters as a kid. What can I say? I was brainwashed....the whole state revolves around THE football team.

I really despise OU. Maybe it's because I live here and have to listen to the redneck homers that live in denial of the teams past all day every day. Hell, they still call Berry Switzer "the king" and flock to him like he is the messiah. And then hate Gary Gibbs because he couldn't win a championship with a team that was on probation that switzer put them on.

Elevation 5280 - The only thing this state has sportswise is the Huskers so it does seem to revolve around football.... what town did you live in?

Something about a place in Nebraska called Grand Island sounds a bit contradictory.

Yeah, the place is a shiat-hole too.....Although I was born there...before moving to Colorado as a young child and then back to Nebraska.

I'm curious though.... why do CU fans hate Nebraska so much? I never understood the outright hatred they show for the Huskers. I mean Okalahoma and Nebraska go way further back, yet there is a mutual respect between the two schools and the fans. Now people are afraid to travel to Boulder with Nebraska plates on thier cars for fear of it getting vandalized.

I can't speak for others, but for me Nebraska seems to be full of arrogant and obnoxious fans. (Who all seem to be 50+.....odd for a college team, eh?)

Maybe some of it comes from my parents......they hated the importance the football team seemed to have to the state government in comparison to more important things.

I remember them complaining about some tax that was imposed so that the cornhuksters could build an athletic center or training facility for the football team. It wasn't the fact of the tax being levied (cigarette tax), it was the way Bob DeVaney more or less demanded/bullied the then governor and state senate into giving him what he wanted because of who he was. (The head coach)

In Nebraska if you don't back the cornhuksters you are a social outcast.....It's that mentality that, as I got older began to see was prevalent in cornhukster fans that really turned me off. And I used to be one of them! Ugh!

I hate Nebraska for no other reason that if you drive from Omaha to Denver it's so damn dull it's worse than driving thru the Mohave desert.

And the hicks are rediculous, the cops are Nazis, the whole pinata. When you stop for gas, the girls look at you like "please kidnap me so I can escape this hick truck stop"....I am dead serious. The forward pass has yet to be reckognized as a play in Nebraska. Every game they ever fall behind in, they lose because they can't throw the ball.

Get a clue.

For pure hatred, Notre Dame. Particuliarly, touchdown Jesus. Who would of thought they would be one of the only teams with an African American coach.

Honorable mention, any team coached by Lou Holtz, see above.

If it comes from SoCal, it's second rate.

Although SoCalBronco - I do enjoy your takes most of the time.

California should be split into two completely seperate states, with Santa Barbara being the cutoff.

NorCal is too beautiful for SoCal to constantly be bringing us down!

First of all Elevation, I enjoy your takes on the Broncos and I don't want to turn this into anything personal.

I don't think what Bob Devany did was anything worse than what Bowlen did with his new stadium. If anything Nebraska has done very little in the last 10-15 years to upgrade their facilities, which is one of the reasons they are in decline as a football program.

Two of my best friends are Sooner fans. They were both born and raised in Nebraska, have followed the Sooners since the early to mid eighties and have no problems other than the occasional good-natured ribbing that we give them.

Football Saturdays are huge around here because they are the only show in town.... there are no pro teams to compete with on a local level. Husker football is also huge to the local economy. I live 45 miles west of Lincoln and all the restaurants and hotels have banner days during home games. I think more of the hatred comes from the fact that Nebraska has been the most successful program in the country over that past 30 years..... Whether that continues or not, I don't know, but enjoy it while you can... odds are they will be back to their dominant selves soon....

I live in one of those towns right on I-80 Mock... and I'm no hick.

The girls you see at the truck stops are probably lot lizards that recognize you from your last trip through town.

I rather enjoy living here....

- I can leave my keys in my car and rarely lock my doors....

- My kids can wear whatever color they want to school without having to worry about it....

- I drive about 3 miles to work everyday and get there in less than 5 minutes....

- I can buy a very nice house for under $200,000....

- If I need something that I can't find at the local store I'm only 40 minutes from Lincoln or an hour and a half from Omaha....

Yeah it really sucks around here.....::)

As far as the lack of a passing game, they said the same thing before we won national championships in 1994, 1995 & 1997. I especially remember how the new age passing attack of Steve Spurrior was going to crush the primitive rushing philosophy of Tom Osborne. Yeah how did that turn out?... 62-24 ring a bell?

The problem is not with the offensive philosophy, it's with the personel..... Nebraska does not have the same type of athletes that they did during the mid to late '90s.

It's okay....really. I realize Nebraska has nothing else. I give them that. And trust me, it's NOT because of nebraska's "success" that I dislike them so (we can debate the "success" of the program if you'd like....personally, I think they have been overrated for years.)

I really don't have anything against the team....they are paid...er, I mean there to perform. My problem is with most of the fans of the cornhuksters. They place SO MUCH importance on the team it is ridiculous. You should know this to be true....if you deny it, I know which category of fan you fall into. You think with an attitude like that that there isn't some "funny stuff" going on? I know there used to be at least. I think Solich has made an honest attempt at cleaning up the recruiting tactics. I know when Devaney and Osborne were there (Osborne cleaned up his act a little at least his last 10 years or so there) there were cars, cash, and whores galore for incentives.....and everyone (including law enforcement) who knew about it looked the other way. I read "Big Red Confidential" and it didn't even scratch the surface of what went on there. Sorry, I'm getting wound up a bit......better....go...to.....Broncos....forum!

I grew up a Nebraska hater. I went to CU-Cornhole games as a kid in the early 80's when there would be 45,000 Nebraska fans and only 5000 Buff fans. I've been to every Nebraska game vs CU in Boulder since. And believe me I have very few fond memories...

However, as much as I hate the Huskers, at least they have a winning tradition unlike K-State. Bill Snyder is a fraud. I'd rather K-State lose to Nebraska every year.

NFL - Raiders. Its easy to hate them
NHL - Dead Wings. Their fans are pompous boors
NBA - Lakers.

Other hated teams - Chefs, Longhorns, Stars, and Braves

That pic says it all about nebraska cornhukster football. That kid's self esteem is wrapped up in the football team. I pity him. You see, he sees how important the cornhuksters are to his parents, teachers, politicians, everyone. So he buys into the mindset that there is nothing more valuable to nebraska than the cornhuksters......Successful? At what cost?

That is a crock of S**t statement, look what you are doing. Posting on your off time on a Bronco board talking trash about the Fade and the Chefs. I shed a tear when the Broncos won the bowl it was a fantastic moment in my life.

The kid probably got hit by something, that's why he's crying. That or there is some drunk 30 something yelling at him for being a Nebraska fan at Folsom field. CU fans hurl frozen bottles, beer bottles, bottles of urine, frozen oranges or anything else that isn't tied down at Husker fans.....That's my reason for hating Colorado fans.... they have zero class.

As far as Nebraska football being too important here, I guess that's a matter of opinion. Is it bigger that the Packers in Green Bay, or the Hoosiers in Indiana? I don't know. From a personal standpoint I take a Broncos loss alot harder than a Husker loss. I think you always have your zeolots that take things too far, like the guy in Alabama that shot his son after a loss to Auburn. I do know from personal experience that Lincoln is great place to watch a game for opposing fans..... can you say the same about Boulder?

Elevation 5280'
11-25-2003, 06:44 PM
Ouch! Touchy, touchy!

I suppose it's nice & comfy when you're watching a game there in lincoln.....but that could be because you are a cornhukster fan. I've heard just as many horror stories about lincoln as I have Boulder. I have been to concerts at folsum, but never got a chance to see the Buffs there, so I can not say whether or not the fans are bad....at either place.

I have witnessed cornhukster fans in action though......they are respectful and reserved as long as the score is close or you are beating them.....but they are cocky, arrogant, and obnoxious as hell if they are beating you.

I was at the Big XII championship game when they played Texas A & M in San Antonio a few years back. And it was just like I said......as long as it was close (which wasn't very long) they were well behaved, but once they were comfortably ahead they were the biggest buttholes I've ever seen in my life. I gained a whole lot of respect for the A & M kids for being so tolerant of these jerks. The only reason I went is because my brother likes the cornhuksters (poor guy....could never shake the brainwashing I guess.....he was born there), but I think he began to see why I don't like them.

One other thing we thought was kinda funny....the vast majority of nu fans were over 50 years of age while the A&M fans were 20-30....yet the more mature fans were the A&M fans......by far.
