View Full Version : Champ Pro Bowl nod?

As I sit and watch these games I become ever so frustrated cuz as I'm wearing my Champ jersey he has hardly any INTs (1 on the season). Then he has an amazing blitz and all of a sudden they show a stat that says they have not thrown the ball to his side the ENTIRE game! He can't have any INTs if they don't throw the ball his way! If this is Pro Bowl and HOF implications I don't know what is, he is truly the greatest shutdown corner in the league.

Um this is a probowl season. When you are thrown at 11 times in 5 games you are shutting down your side of the field. while the fans might not see that the coaches will.

Thats what I say, the whole leage (players and coaches) have total respect for him, and still see him as the best corner in the game.
I think he is one of the best ever. There hasnt been these good of a combination of coverage and run support in awhile. Sure Deon sanders could cover, but I never saw him come up and pop people like Champ does to support the run. Scary combination that makes him one of the best ever in a Era where CB's have the disadvantage and can "barely" touch receivers. Imagine if Champ played way back in the day when you could be way more physical.

One thing the fans will see is the name, never underestimate just how important being named Champ Bailey is. Why do you think John Lynch got votes for the last 2 pro bowls?

They line him up on the LOS a bunch. It's going to be hard for him to get a bunch INT's based on that. I don't think he cares as long as we win

Actually, probably half the INTs he has gotten in Denver have come from him leaving his man and cheating to someone else's guy by reading the QBs eyes. He made his living that way in 2005 and 2006.

When Champ goes to the Line of Scrimmage.. its usually because there is not a WR on his side of the field.
But his football sense is so good that he can analyze what is going on with the play and know to pick up the TE or RB coming out of the backfield, or play the run.
Champ doesn't need the 'stats' of Interceptions, its telling enough that teams don't throw his way.

I saw that stat too...Pretty ridiculous when you think about it. To be thrown at 11 times this season.. If this stat continues Id love to see the percentage completed compared to attempted his way.

I love his tackling more than anything. Did you ever see Deion take on a 230LB RB and force a fumble?? I think not. CHAMP is the man

Exactly, imagine if Dieon made half the attempt to tackle like Champ does. He would have been even nastier than he was.

He'll make it with the public on his rep. But players and coahces who vote for the pro-bowlers know exactly how good he is.

Last week was like us playing NE. Tom Brady is terrified of throwing to the right side of the field after that playoff game. He has thrown at Champ 0 times since that pick in the playoffs.

Champ had a great game yesterday. and a great season so far even if the ints aren't there. He's saved 2 TDs on teams.

ME thinks we should rename the corner position to the CHAMP position. Shanny: " Alright throw in that nickel D with 5 Champs on the field"

Deion IMO was still a better cover corner but not by much. He had a better ability to break on the ball than Champ and both are excellent and defending passes thrown their way...Deion tended to be in better positions to make interceptions.
But Champ is miles a head of Deion in the tackling department. Miles ahead.
Deion wasn't a chump though.

Deion was great at defending the longer throws, but against the shorter and mid-range passes, he wasn't as dominant.
It's really hard to say who's better. Champ and Deion played with totally different rules governing them.

Anyone "frustrated" with Champ's "lack of interceptions" just doesn't know anything about how the position works, and they haven't been paying much attention as it is very obvious Champ is in a class by himself. Interceptions come from two things, generally: being challenged, and scheme. Champ isn't challenged, and our scheme doesn't call for him to go out of his way to make plays on the ball. Maybe it should, but right now it doesn't. Champ's tackling ability and his vision and football sense allow him to be engaged and active in a game even when the opposing team is trying its hardest to pretend he's not even out on the field. That's what makes him great.

The supposition of your original post is that you just now figured out that hey, this Champ guy is pretty good even if the ball isn't in his hands! I'm wondering if you've watched any of our games.

And there are people who want to trade Champ Bailey? How the **** can Broncos fans say he's having a down year?
It shows their knowledge is below a 3rd graders.

dre bly is the guy that needs to be making plays and picking off passes.
ANY corner playing opposite champ is gonna look bad at times, but i must admit i like bly's enthusiasm (for those not at the games, he pumps the crowd up between virtually every play and/or timeout) and cover skills.
sure, he gets burned, and burned RELATIVELY often.......just like fowworth....and williams...and anyone else that plays opposite bailey. that just goes with the territory. overall, bly has been pretty good.
with that said, he HASNT been productive as far as getting interceptions, and that needs to change.

Champs great. for as few times as he is actually thrown at...he seems to make big plays every game. The int against the chuggers, the fumble hit against the cheifs, the hit on Greise...not to mention the plays he's had to chase down from behind or when he comes up to the line to make wicked tackles. He's truly an all around "Football Player"
Deion was a freak...but at the same time..."Full of himself". Had Deion ever truly been humble on the football field and did the "Other stuff" like Champ does...he would have been incredible.
Champ is an absolute for the Pro-bowl and if he keeps it up (regardless of the int's and the defense he plays on) should be considered for defensive player of the year!

I heard Dion say he thinks he could slow or stop Marshall.
He wouldn't even tackle him, he might get dirty.
Champ should get the nod but Chormartie and that scrub from Oakland will be the starters.

After the way Cromartie got abused by Marshall, I can't see him starting over Bailey. Plus from what I've seen, Cromartie has looked pretty average this year.
