Al Franken is up against a 3rd-party guy sapping 20% of the Democratic vote.

Poll: Franken Way Down, Hurt By Third-Party Candidate

A new SurveyUSA poll shows Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) with a 43%-33% lead over Al Franken -- and 19% of the vote going to Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley. The internals show that Barkley is picking up 19% of Democrats and 31% of independents. With the incumbent below 50%, the data can lead one to reasonably think that Barkley is picking up a lot of people who don't like Coleman's performance, but aren't about to back Franken when a third-party alternative is offered.

Coleman leads by 10 ... but look at how the 3rd party guy is taking 19% of Democrats. If Franken had that 19, the race would be much closer.

Wow ... nobody? Nothing?

Cool I guess ... but to accomplish an FDR-like first 100 days, Obama needs a filibuster-proof Senate. It's looking less and less like he'll have 60, and this is one reason why.

Al Franken seems like a nutcase that's probably why he's falling behind.

If Obama get's enough of the popular vote he may be able to ward off many fillibusters even without the numbers.

Who knows though republicans may not give an inch.

"I think McCain is a hypocrite," said Bob Barr, the former GOP congressman and Libertarian presidential candidate. "He claims he is for smaller government and that's not the case." 10/4 (http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2008/10/02/barr-i-think-mccain-is-a-hypocrite/)

Good. We don't need another FDR-like 1st 100 days.

I'm sure people think Franken is weird, and that's having an impact ... but I see this differently than most. I like weird people. Maybe it's part of my liberal thinking, but I prefer weird to boring eight days a week. I though it was cool when Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah's couch. Maybe he's a bad example, but you see what I mean. Boring is the enemy.

Wow. That is one quick turnaround.

I so hope he wins ... he will have ZERO restraint to tell it like it is.

+1

Also, in response to the poster to whom you were responding, don't you think it's a little weird that a guy who belongs to a fringe minority, i.e., the ~19% who support Bush, is presuming to be the arbiter of what is or isn't "weird?" ;)

BTW, 106 days and a wake up until the "evil-doer" retires to his pretend ranch in Crawford (or Paraguay, as the case may be.)
