View Full Version : Slowik vs. Griese: The movable object vs. the resistable force...

I am starting to get a little antsy about this upcoming game. Surely Slowik will be fired in the post game conference if Griese manages to burn Slowik's defense for three touchdowns.

Of course, it could also be that Champ Bailey comes away with enough interceptions to find his way into the pro-bowl in one game...

This game has the potential to be agonizing...

You're kind of being a dick to Griese. He'll rip up any bad secondary that leaves his receivers open, sit coolly in the pocket and thrive in the face of not-so-relentless pass rush pressure.

Here's the deal, folks...

Griese has been around long enough now... and he's smart enough to pick apart most defenses. He'll sit back and throw mid-range passes all day on us.

That said, there are few QBs in the history of mankind with less pocket presence than this guy. He's absolutely oblivious to the pass rush on any given play. He's a statue waiting to be knocked over.

Blitz him all day long. Hit him, knock him down, make him move, get hands in his face. Leave receivers open if we have to. Risk big plays if we have to.
But the LAST thing you want to try with this dude is to let him sit back there comfortably... as we run this pseudo 3-4 defense.

In other words... you know that silly, passive defense we run every week? Griese will throw for 500 yards against it. The dude threw 65 passes a couple weeks ago... against a decent defense.

You've got to balls-out blitz and stunt this guy all day long. DO that, and he'll make horrible decisions, cough up the ball and generally just do Griese-like things.

Don't do it, and he's smart enough at this point in his career to have a huge day.

It should actually be "Stoppable" force. the Term is generally Unstoppable Force...

Perhaps it's a regional thing... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irresistible_force_paradox)

Huh. Never heard it referred to it like that before.

Even with our crappy DL, Griese isn't as effective against man coverage as he is against cover 2 zone.

Tampa suck on the road, and they don't have a legit TE/WR combo (Galloway is out I think) so really, there's no excuse for this defense and they'll need to at least impersonate a decent D as Tampa Bay's cover 2 defense is killer against QBs.

I think this goes for every team we play. Put Champ on an island and roll coverage towards Bly... and blitz continuously. Use 10 different blitzes in the first half, and go with the best 4-5 in the second half. Live with the consequenses. It's not like the defense could get any worse.

I have a gut feeling this is going to be a long day for the Broncos. If the Broncos get no pressure on the pass rush.. Griese is going to sit back and throw all day.. I would not be surprised to see him try 50 pass attempts.

The Bucs are going to play ball control. In fact, so will the Jags. Between the Chiefs game, and now these two upcoming games, i'm pretty sure they are all going to employ the same strategy against us. Run run run, and throw only when you have to...

so the chiefs have a better offense than the Bucs?

Yea, Im not sure why we cant blitz the hell out of some teams. As for Griese Ball throwing mid range passes all day, I can see that happening, but I have a feeling they will get more productivity out of their run game.

Griese > Huard. Huard had, what, a 100 QB rating against us? Griese will own Slowik.

I am hoping the same SOB shows up that showed up for that game vs Miami where he threw a bad INT to a D line man that went for a TD.

Its pretty sad when I fear the Greaseball ripping up our D. Shiat Bvp or Jarious Jackson probably could put pro bowl numbers on us.Hopefully our D gets better

All of our games have been nail bitters. Not gonna change. Win or loose. Good news we are not going to be blown out as long as Cutler can throw. Bad news with our defense the anyone we play will be in the game until the final gun.

We need to be up 34 points before the 2 min warning in the 4th Q. Then we might win. The dude put up 10 points and a win on a Bears D that is supposed to be in top 5.

I hate that too but I don't think we have good blitzers on this defense... at least Lynch was good at timing it... but who can we send now? I think our most effective blitz might be the CB blitz with Bly... :clown:

We have to be able to mix it up and hide it so the offense doesn't know where it's coming from... or just send more blitzers than they have blockers and risk getting burned bad.

I agree, but they have to chance it with this defense. ..and Sass will verify it, I constantly yelled for a Bly corner blitz during the Saints game all game long...like I've been doing every Sunday this season.

Oh definitely, no blitz means the QB has an hour and a half to torch us anyway... so... at least try to make a play and force a bad throw or something!! Damn... just talking about this defense makes me angry.

I look for the Broncos to step up and play a good game this week.

3 sacks and 2 INTs for the defense.

Broncos 30

Bucs 20

oh no not according to Slowick.
He said they blitz just as much as anyone else in the league.

Slowick said it so it must be true.....

Leave all that fancy blitzing to the other teams, our stategy is simple, we wear out their qb's arm by him completing so many passes that by the time the 4th quarter rolls around he wont want to throw anymore
