To beat Denver all a team has to do is stop the offense a few times in the first and second quarter, get a lead (because the defense can't stop anybody!), and run the ball. Denver defense is actually getting worse as the season plays out. Its getting really hard to watch them when the Broncos are on defense. Denver should be sitting at 1-3 now. I agree. It's hard to be optimistic with this sorry defense and it starts with the coaching they either are getting or aren't. Whichever, but seems the only way this defense stops anybody is when the other team stops themself with mistakes that aren't really even caused by the defense.

actually, I like the defensive coaching. flame away....

I was not a fan of the slowick hire, but he at least is trying something interesting. We all clamoured for the 3-4, for more blitzing and for drafting dlinemen.

what we forgot to ask for was good talent. I think it is fair to say that robertson is very important to this team. he is a great dlinemen, and it really showed when he wasn't out there.

we have no talent. plain and simple. bly and bailey are good, dj williams is good, boss plyed well, but our dline is just horrible. we need better play from the players.

I can tell you with confidence, that if our front four was middle of the pack, we would have a decent d. I like the schemes so far. sorry. I know it's hard to defend this d, but when you dline doesn't make plays, the rest of the d suffers.

it comes down to players. coaching can only do so much.

Second, my counter to your ridiculous argument is that if they should be, which you seem to not deny, it will show as the season plays out. My argument to your pooh is that at the end of the day Denver is going nowhere, period! - unless they trade for somebodies (plural) who can replace those lazy dinks on the d-line. As we found out yesterday, Denver can't count on lucky bounces, bad calls, and the offense scoring 40+ points for 16 games.

I guess it's possible Denver loses one or even both of the next two at home. It's not a particularly good TEAM right now. ST's and D are nothing special. The O has been inconsistent. The team has been outscored 68-51 in the 2nd half and 48-28 in the 4th Q. In the past 3 games, outscored 54-27 in the 2nd half and 34-14 in the 4th Q. Not real confidence-inspiring. At least Gonzalez didn't break a record against Denver.

Like it or not, there is some merit to losing against the Jags. They run the ball well (better than KC) so we can expect about 250 yards on the ground, which results in Cutler getting the ball less. Plus the Jags D is at least as good as KC's so they will make a couple of stops.

If we lose to Griese I will be pissed though. They don't have the D or running game to hang with us, but I have seen worse (KC immediatly comes to mind).

jesus christ! it was one goddamn game. how is everyone going to come out and proclaim we are terrible. the defense does suck, but it shows flashes of potential. We were without our best run stuffer yesterday. Larry Johnson would not have run all over us had Robertson been there. The passing game didn't kill us yesterday. We actually didn't look too bad.

Hell after being on the field all game, because our offense couldn't sustain a drive and gave the Chiefs the ball back with great field position our defense got gashed for almost everything the Chiefs got.

Jay had a bad game yesterday. Selvin Young is not the answer at RB, Scheff wasn't utilized, and we were trying to get Graham too involved in the passing game.

Denver every season has at least 1 game like this where a weak team takes it to us. Why is this season so much different and worrisome to you guys?

So at least wait until more than half the season is over before we all meltdown and freak out over a loss, and proclaim that we are not going to win another game this season.

Most stupid play by Den defense was on 2nd and long(11?) in first half. Bly was initially giving a cushion of around 7 yards to Bowe. To my consternation just before the ball was about to be snapped he started backing off even further and ended up 10 yards from Bowe when Huard has ball. Huard did not even try to look at the other side. He just saw Bly was 10 yards off and threw quickly to Bowe. Bly tried to stop Bowe and first met him about 4 yards before first down marker and promptly missed the tackle. Bowe was finally tackled after he went past the 1st down line.

How hard is it to execute this play? Going by what we have seen in the past 4games DBs will continue to give cushion with pedictable results. Other than Tony G's TD, KC's offense consisted for the most part hand off to LJ and dump off to Bowe. Everyone and their grandma knew this will be the gameplan of KC and if you can't stop that who are you going to stop?

I hate to sound pessimistic but I only see Den winning games where the score is close and Den has the ball in the end.

This game was so typical of the Broncos over the years including those with Elway. Flat, flat, flat. One mistake after another ... penalty at the wrong time, fumble, interception, special teams breakdown, missed chip shot field goal. Couldn't you feel it late first quarter.

The defense is bad...but not as bad as we think. The offense gave the Cheifs the ball 4x...that's 4 turnovers folks. If you take a look at the drive charts...you'll see that the Cheifs only had two drives that were 70+ yds. All of the rest of their scoring was because they started in our territory.

Contrast that with our offensinve drive charts and you'll see the story of this game.

The offense lost this game...not our defense.

This is stupid, and I feel stupid responding but here I go.

Denver will go into the Bye at no less than 5-2. We will get Tampa and/or Jax. We are at home, which will get us at least one of them. Tampa and Jax are both good Defensive teams, but when Jay is on, he can not be stopped. I see a few more passes to Scheffler this week. Now Jay was off on Sunday, don't count on that every week. We are an extremely young offense, and will sometimes play down to the competition. I hope the team sees how the media turns on you when you play poorly. It makes me mad, to hear this junk. One week, we are great, next week, we will not when another game. We weren't that good, and we are not that bad. I hope that Tampa thinks they will kick our butts this weekend. We will see!

Well for my sake I hope we don't lose to Tampa. It will be my first game I've been to in Denver, I've seen them play at Camarohead many times but never a home game.

I've been pumped all season to go, I got great seats (25 yrd line, 4 rows up) but after watching the game at KC I'm not so pumped anymore. The bucs run the same D as the chiefs only about 10 times better. I'm going with my best friend who is a buc fan so the ride home will be bad for someone and I have a feeling it will be me.

So basically I'm going to drive six hours, get a hotel room, and spend lord knows how much money to come see Denver lose. Can't wait!

Actually, calling our defense a Cover 2 or Tampa 2 offshoot is really a misnomer. We played a lot of Cover 2/Tampa 2 when Herm arrived because our corners were so old and slow. Now that we actually have guys who can cover man to man, we've been doing a lot more of that.

However, your original point is valid. The Broncos face a team with an actual pass rush this week, so it should be interesting.

Posts like these are what makes me believe that a defensive turnaround is in order. Whenever something becomes the accepted rule, everything changes, especially in football.

The D will come around to respectability. Don't forget how many new players are on the field, it takes time to gel all of those new faces. By the 8th game or so I fully expect the defense to be much improved. Not a force, but respectable.
