Hey all, I'm going to be moving to Dallas in the next few weeks for a job. My work is in Plano, just north of 75 and the Bush turnpike. I'm going to be making good money, so I don't mind spending around $1000 per month as long as it's not the ghetto.
I'm a 30 year old single guy, and I'd like to live in a part of town that is like Austin, if possible. Meaning decent night life, and fairly liberal attitude. That is where I grew up, and I've also lived in San Francisco and Santa Monica, to give you an idea of the kinds of places I like to live in. I also love smoking weed, is there a good part of town for that?
I've heard good things about Lower Greenville and Frisco, though I hear Frisco is more family oriented.
I just have no clue about Dallas, so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I absolutely love Denton. Its one of my fave places in the state. Great arts community, good music (UNT has the nations #1 jazz program...also lots of underground rock), a unique community. Its a ways from plano, but you have access to everywhere from anywhere in the metroplex.
I think that Denton is the place for ya.

If you prefer to be in the midst of the activity in the central dallas, Lower Greenville or Mockingbird Station would probably be preferable to Denton, which is more of a college town/arts community. I cant say enough about Denton though, its really cool.
Youre going to have to spend more than 1k to get a decent place around there though unless you find a roommate.

$1000 doesnt get you much anymore. Frisco has grown a lot so there are some apartments out there. Addison isn't to far and has some night life I here but i'm fifty so what do I know? As fart as the weed goes couldn't tell you. Eighter way you are going to hate the traffic.

Dallas is a great town. I fly there all the time. LOTS of hot girls. Ive always noticed that the girls in Texas in general hold up in looks compared to southern cal girls, so no worries there.

A man in a HUGE, foam cowboy hat will meet you at the City Limits and will hand you a gun with concealment license, a Chris Ledoux cassette, and a Don't Mess With Texas bumper sticker.
You can rent a barstool at the Blue Mule for just under $1,000.

Our girls have southern charm as well...the best package in the states. He'll find out when he gets here. Whether in Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, or San Antonio, Tejas is chock full of beautiful women...unless of course you spend your time in El Paso.

Lower Greenville to live, or party? If you live there, expect a heck of a drive to work every day!
There is always Addison, not to far from your work, plenty of stuff to do, bars, eating establishments, etc. and centrally located to go to Dallas, Plano etc.
And no, you do not have to watch the Cowpies, Sunday NFL Ticket FTW!

Weed = Denton. Or anywhere Josh Howard may be.
But you don't want to live there. Look up the North parts of the Dallas-side - Frisco, Plano, Addison, Richardson.
There's a certain breed of skank that's easily attainable here if you flaunt your money and possessions. These bitches are hollow as ****, but easy to hook up with. You can spot them from a mile away. They tend to hover around all the other 30k millionaires in Dallas.
Don't be a douche. Don't wear a headband. Make sure your shirts fit you properly, none of this tight ****. Don't call your friends 'brah'.
Let me know if you ever want to go to a Mavs game. I know people that know people...

Its not so bad here. Atlanta is bad. LA is bad. we have so many parallel highways here in the metroplex that you can usually plan a decent route even during rush hour. Not to say that you wont spend some time under 10mph, but its not gridlock like in LA and there arent crazy idiots like in Atlanta.

LA is just a pure nightmare. We just have waaay tooooo many people in a condensed area. Its a joke. The 91 EAST is pure hell. I have no reason to go that way, but if i did, i still wouldnt go. You couldnt pay me to go east on the 91 after 3pm. Satans playground

It's been many years ago but I'd rate the women in Denton tops in the looks category. Dallas, in general, is far more pretentious and self-important than Austin.
As for weed, it's illegal everywhere. Even Willie Nelson has been busted. I'm sure it is available, but it's not like you can just go down to Drugs R Us and buy some. You'd have to hide it no matter where you go.
Hmmmm. Single 30-year-old pothead. I'm sure the chicks are going to see a lot of potential in that.

The women around there are beautiful, and they take there looks seriously, I mean, the make it a point to look good.
That being said, they aren't real deep. Looks and money and a nice car will get you respect...

That's true anywhere.
There are plenty of sharp women here. Like anything else, you just have to know where to look.

Haha, both. When I was in SoCal, I had my medical card, so I was buying the super high end concentrates that blow away all other forms of THC. $100 per gram, but well worth it. I miss California =( Though I don't miss the 405 or the 101. I'm sure I'll be able to handle the Dallas traffic after that nightmare.
Thanks for all the advice everyone! I actually went to school in Denton, but I figured it was a bit too far from my work to actually live there. Loved it though, very much like a little Austin.
And I grew up in Texas, so I know ALL about living here. Just not the Dallas area.

Fun Fact, experts have determined that at the current rate that cars are being put on the SoCal road and highway system, by 2015 they'll be in a permanent state of gridlock.
