A few of us on here where right about this guy huh? What a joke he was a supposed starter in the making. Total scrub. I can't believe how bad the Broncos safety's are.
At least the young guys on the Oline have stepped up for the most part or we would be 0-3 for sure.

I kinda doubt it. But I'd be happy if they did. He'd provide leadership and direction for a unit that has none.

Sure it is. Just because teams aren't running it as much as they did last year doesn't make the unit any better. Check out the ypc. Pretty much same as last year.

Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced a short while ago the placement of Tom Nalen on injured reserve. Now there’s even more news out of Dove Valley.
With Nalen on IR, the Broncos had an open spot on the roster. To fill that void, the team has signed safety Vernon Fox, Shanahan announced.
A seventh-year player out of Fresno State, Fox spent two years each with the San Diego Chargers, Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins. He has seen action in 86 games with 11 starts, and he totaled 129 tackles, four passes defensed and two interceptions.
Shanahan also announced that the Broncos have waived safety Hamza Abdullah.
Abdullah began his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after they selected him in the seventh round of the 2005 NFL draft. HE was placed on their practice squad before Denver signed him to their active roster in November 2005. Abdullah saw action in 23 games, including eight starts in 2007, and he recorded 43 tackles, seven passes defensed, a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
The Broncos also released wide receiver Travis Wilson from the practice squad. He was signed to the Broncos on September 1, 2008.

Sounds like they have one opening on the 53-man roster and one on the practice squad. I'm all in favor of signing anyone who can make a tackle.

Lynch will only help in run support and blitzing.
Don't think he will be signed.

So Fox takes Abdullah's roster spot. We've got a spot from Nalen going to IR and a PS spot with Wilson gone. Interesting...

Lynch didn't have a ton of range but at least he never really blew assignments. He'd outplay any safety we have right now, coverage or run stopping.

I would not be angry if we signed Lynch, but I fully expect Jason Babin to get a chance on the roster.

Good point ... our safety play has been poor. If the presumptive starter can't even stick on the roster, that's not good.
I get the feeling that big-play, nose-for-the-football guys are de-valued by Shanahan in favor of more disciplined, reliable players. You can't deny (credibly) that Todd Devoe had a knack for making a big play. Same for Steve Cargile (again, can't argue with that), and the same seemed true for Josh Barrett this pre-season. And now were signing safeties (plural) who are out of football - 2 in the last 17 days now - why can't we give Barrett a shot in dime situations? He definiely has the speed.

Well I eat **** on this one. With how poor the intermediate coverage has been the last two games, I don't get this move one bit. The good thing is week 4 vs KC is a great chance to rebuild some faith in some of the defensive moves.

Last year. But Lynch doesn't have the speed to be on NFL field.

Lowrey was cut by Seattle to make room for Kerry Colbert. So you can say Denver traded Colbert for Lowrey and a 4th or 5th round pick. Not bad!!

Lowry was one of the last cuts by Ten? IIRC Seatle cut Babin to make room for Colbert.
I am trying to think positive and may be he is atleast as good as Hamza - which is not much.

I think Lowry is better than hamza. They are very deep at safety in tenn, so he was expendible(?)
i would still like to see what Barrett can do. I mean how bad can it be not to give this kid a try?

Because he was at least as bad?
How quickly everyone forgets the game or two a year Ferguson's lack of athleticism cost us.
Remember the 2005 Giants game where Eli just lobbed a TD over Ferguson's head to Shockey?
Or basically the same play ran a half dozen times by Pittsburgh in the AFCC that year?
Every team in the league knew Ferguson couldn't stick with a WR or fast TE and didn't have the ball awareness to play a good zone. He also was mediocre in run support. So what good was he?
Lynch and Greg Wesley is where we should be looking for safety help. That or move Paymah to FS and let him have all the action in front of him where he can just react with his very good athleticism. That or the safeties we already have need to step up. I'm hopeful that Lowry will do that, but we're still carrying one dead weight safety in that case.

Wow, what a great idea. Paymah is a flag-magnet, but the flags only fly with his back to the ball ... he's usually in position, he just can't seem to swivel his neck around in time. Facing the action would be a great idea.

Shanahan is Dr. Frankenstein when it comes to building a defense or special teams. We always have a monster defense and it is always a scary and bad thing.

I think we should just replace our safeties with 55 gallon drums of orange paint. Sure they are lighter than the league average safety, can't stop any passes, can't cover anybody down field but if a running back every slammed into one them babies our defense would finally make the highlights in a good way.
I am heading to Denver... If shanny is signing this crap, I have a shot to sign for the Vet min and sit on my ass every weekend on the inactive list.
