Hugo wasn't pleased with their report.
"During this decade, democracy and its key institutions have become seriously weakened, judicial power has lost independence, civil society has less space, the news media, too, and the unions -- the big, strong ones -- cannot exercise their rights," Vivanco said Thursday.
Obviously HRW is just an agent for Yankee imperialism and Mr. Danger...

At least Chavez and the party/president whose flank W*GS has been covering for the past eight years share the same socialist ideology.
Now it's just a race to see which one can nationalize the most companies.

Anybody know how many years ago the Bush administration kicked
out Human Rights Watch. Reading this it sounds exactly like what
Bush and Cheney have done here.
1. During this decade, democracy and its key institutions have become seriously weakened
Diebold voting machines. Registration purges. GOP thugs blocking the recount in Florida.
2. judicial power has lost independence,
Packing the courts with right wing lackeys.
3. civil society has less space,
Police clamping down hard on political protests.
4. the news media,
Never mind the house propaganda organ, AKA Fox News.
Look what willing dupes even the NY Times were in the
run up to the Iraq war. Kieth Olberaman getting booted
from campaign coverage. The free pass Palin is getting.
5. too, and the unions -- the big, strong ones -- cannot exercise their rights
While Reagan began the process of dismantling the unions, it was Bush
who used outsourcing and cheap illegal immigrant labor to esentially
gut the union workforce.
