Shanahan has gotten a lot of flack for his drafting, and a lot of it has been deserved, but for all that I'm not seeing a lot of credit for him building a powerhouse offense through the draft in just three seasons.

Wish we had used that #2 on a defensive player.

Devin Hester wouldn't have done squat in Denver. He's a great returner, but Chicago has an awesome special teams unit.

Speaking of Hester...is he out with his ribs this week?

Yeah we had a pretty pimpin draft that year... I'm just glad we are done with picks like willie middlebrooks and such.

I knew the Cutler pick was both ballsey aand needed. I didnt see the others coming, like Brandon.
I was starting to lose faith because we had been drafting like Detroit for about 7 years.

Not only that but New England is also often praised for their drafts...like they can do no wrong. And at a time when Brady desperately needed a WR, Marshall was right under their nose when they took a kicker.
Right after New England selected Steven Gostkowski with the 118th overall pick, the Broncos found a diamond in the rough. With the 119th overall pick, the Broncos selected Central Florida WR Brandon Marshall, a former safety.

Didn't Chris Kupers dad post (or still posts) here? If so congrats, the kid is in good company with that draft class. :)

Yeah, and he still surfaces from time to time.

Good point. You could play that "They could have drafted *insert name here* at *insert draft number* here with all 32 NFL teams. Hell, all you need to do is look at the current Bronco offensive starting line up and you've got enough ammo for 31 teams. Look at how well they are playing, and look at the fact that seven of the eleven members of that starting unit were drafted in '06 or later (which does not even include Tony Scheffler). They've drafted a franchise QB, franchise WR, and franchise OLT. That kind of success ought to cut a front office some slack for missing out on a handful of players.

Yeah, except not all 32 teams get constant adulation like they do no wrong the same way the Patriots do.
I think we have 9 starters from the past 3 drafts:
Cutler, Marshall, Dumervil, Kuper, Thomas, Harris, Clady, Royal, and Hillis. But Scheffler is also a huge contributor...one of the better receiving TEs in the AFC.
That's 3 starters per draft, that would seen about B to B+ work. What is the average # of starters per draft for that draft to be an above average draft.

I dont think its B work. When you look at what the offense is capable of now, its more like A work. Its not only about starting, its also about having an impact.

Yep, Dumervil and Thomas are very good picks especially for where they were selected. There's also a good chance Ryan Torain turns out to be a real good pick.
Jarvis Moss... I still think he should get time, though it's disconcerting he hasn't shown flashes yet. But you can't expect every player to show it this soon. He's going to get compared to other recent Bronco picks, but it's more remarkable that the Broncos have so many for whom the light has been switched on so soon.

We have been drafting A+ since 06. Before that, as Oleg say, not so good. Lucky to have one baby in bathwater...

There's probably a reason that Denver didn't look at drafting Klopfenstein when they were on the clock at #61, since Joel was drafted 46th.
Drafthistory.com is your friend if you're going to start talking about who was there when your team picked.

On brother ... it cost us #15 and #68 to move up to #11 for Cutler?
If I'm not mistaken, we paid more than that to move up for Jarvis Moss :oyvey:

There was a study done by Pat Kirwan over the course of several years. The Seahawks had the highest average starters per draft and that was 3. The average was 2.
So 3 starters per draft is really an A+.

If you hit 3 starters per draft you will be a contender everysingle year. I'm 100 percent with you now SoCal that it's where you make the meat a potatoes and leave expensive FA's alone. All the teams that are consistently good draft and develope their players Indy, NE, Pitt, Sea etc.
