Wow, they always like to underrate players. It seems like they have 12 guys who they project as 1st rounders or think have first round talent. It was like that last year too.

BTW, they have DJs brother rated higher than Brinkley. I remember discussing that (SCB I think). They also like Davis, Spiller and Wells. I think they like Wells more than they liked McFadden last year. They say Spiller plays faster than Reggie Bush and seem to think he would be a better RB. Also, they like Davis' inside running but say he's a little stiff.

They have Laurinaitis rated higher than Maualuga and ding Maualuga for his lack of discipline and not reading plays.

They dont like the centers but I actually think Mack is quite good from what Ive seen.

They like Chung too.

What do they think of the DTs, lex?

What do they think of the DTs, lex?

They think Peria is the only 1st round caliber DT but that there are 6 who they rank as second round talents.

I think these are the rankings that lex was talking about, they put it on their (PFW) website today.

Yeah, kind of. It looks like the one you posted has been updated to reflect what has happened so far. For example, in their preview Javon Ringer is rated a 5.75 and James Davis is rated a 5.90.

Did any of you watch the GEORGIA/ BAMA game?
I have watched a few games now of BOTH these teams, and i gotta say i sure do like some of those BAMA defensive players.
They are good in the scheme, but they are also just great athletes as well.
MAn, there are going to be some really good players out of there in the next couple years. I would hope DEN could get Chung in the 2nd, and look at Johnson in the 4th/5th round. Let Chung play SS.

Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama
Height: 6-0. Weight: 189.
Projected 40 Time: 4.44.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
5/19/09: A member of the first team All-SEC, Rashad Johnson had 94 tackles 5.5 tackles for loss and eight pass breakups.
2007: Made his first start against Hawaii last year and hasn't looked back. Rashad Johnson has become an important part of Alabama's secondary. He can help in the return game at the next level.

Anyone else think that it would be nice to see DJ on the weakside his younger brother Worrell in the middle after the draft and Champ's younger brother on the strongside?

I've got a pretty good feeling that Brandon Spikes will come out and be the first non-hybrid LB off the board.

Meh, all said and done I think Spikes goes well before we get our first shot, but that would probably push Maualuauauauauauauga into our laps.

We'll see how the combine shakes out. Odds are that will be the deciding factor between the two if they stay injury free.

Laurinitis will drop like a rock after the senior bowl for the sole reason of being white but it will be blamed on "stiff hips" and "liability in coverage".

but if not him, i am wanting Worrell Williams. i think it would create a nice brotherly competition between DJ and him, each wanting to outdo the other.

Southern Cal has five players that could start for us on defense. Hell they might have a better starting D than the Broncos.

1. S TAYLOR MAYS
2. ILB 58 Rey Maualuga 6.60 6020e 260e 4.75e Ch.
3. OLB 10 Brian Cushing 6.10 6026e 255e 4.60e
4. DT Fili Moala
5. SS 4 Kevin Ellison 5.09 6006 225 4.65e X

I would love to see us draft Taylor Mays. He brings the wood and is fast. Why isn't he on that list?

They focus on seniors. And I would avoid Cushing. He's overhyped plus Ive heard rumors that he is a beneficiary of chemical help. Ellison is a weird one. I see him projected all over the place. And I know Mays is a freak athlete and all but he also has a lot of help in front of him. Additionally, Id rather build the team front to back than back to front like we have in the past.

that is a damn good thought. we traded for Champ to come here and stop the pass without having a decent enough front 7 to force QB mistakes.

Champ is without question the best Corner in the league, but without any help from the front 7 he will also lose coverage once in awhile.

I like the idea of shoring up the front 7 and then working into the secondary, because if we can get the front 7 getting consistant pressure, our secondary would look much better due to having bad passes thrown.

Yeah, like I said elsewhere, if we are going to stick with the 4-3, I would target Suggs or Peppers as FAs and cough up the coin for them because of the time it takes to evaluate DEs. Plus we only recently drafted 2 DEs with our first two picks.

Then in the draft I would go LB before S. There seems to be decent depth at safety and not a huge drop off between a first round safety and someone like Chung in the 2nd.

I would love a true MLB in the first, or a bona-fide DE, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing FS WIlliam Moore from Missouri fall to us.

He reminds me of a faster version of Roy Williams, who can lay big hits and also cover. He's a 230 lb Free Safety that can bring the wood, and is a great blitzer.

So many needs...

also the fact that aside from Doom and Thomas in recent years we suck at drafting DL, so it would be beneficial to pay someone like Suggs or Peppers and get a MLB to lead this defense.

i keep seeing that thread saying this defense has no identity, i don't buy it. this defense has no heart. Al Wilson was the heart of the defense, and made players around him better, he riled up his teammates, right now there is no leader that the team looks to, to lead them.

Couldn't agree more.

On another note, according to their evaluating system, Laurinitis is the only senior with potential to be an All-Pro from their list...it will be interesting to watch which underclassmen declare and how that affects some of these seniors.

Well, the good thing about so many needs is that it almost ensures that we'll get something good to be happy about.

Unless it's a fast, skinny DE recovering from a major injury.

We still got Thomas.

Even if it not in the first round, when your D is this bad you're almost sure of drafting something useful.

Agreed. Ellison's good, but he is sorta forgotton in the drafts ive seen.
So many USC players, i think they feel that they overhype the team by putting him where he goes. hes a solid 4th round pick.
As for Cushing, meh. Hes fast and huge, but there are teams really looking at him. i see someone making a play for him early.
I wouldnt mind Curry, Spikes or REY REY in the 1st.
But i would really, really want DEN to try to move into the high 2nd round to get Chung. Hes a very good player, and to me is a 1st rounder in any other draft. Teams are going to have their eyes on this guy.
And yes, i hope DEN drafts front to back this time.

Ellison is good but has injury concerns and is not as fast as he really should be. He is kind of caught in that Wesley Woodyard tweener space where he is very big, physical and slow for a safety, but a bit small for a linebacker.

good point. outside of Champ, DJ, Doom, Thomas and Robertson basically any defensive player we draft would be a huge and immediate upgrade over the players we have on the roster now.

I am all over the patrick chung bandwagon but I am starting to lean towards a May/Chung 1st and 2nd picks. I am usually of the opinion that you build a D from front to back as well but in this case we are so horrible at the back of our d I can justify this along with a vet from FA. that said I wouldnt be dissapointed if we took a MLB in rd 1 either but I feel like Chung needs to be a priority.

Whose to say that if we do get two decent safties that the three four just might work... i dont know at this point this D is garbage. and something needs to be done about it. Maybe were just missing the leadership.

snowspot66

Leadership, a decent DC, and a couple of safeties would make this defense average. It will never be good until we have a few linemen that can play. But at this point I'm sure we'd all be satisfied with average.

If you get Chung and May in the draft sign Crowder and one of the big three (Suggs, Peppers, Haynesworth) and you will see a D that is top 10 or better.

hell yeah! i want a bad ass with an attitude who intimidates. and the MLB we get had better have heart to lead the defense.
we haven't had heart on defense since Al was released

honestly I if we are talking pure leader I like Rey and the Road Warrior if we are going talent I like what I have seen from spikes. if we are talking free agents I would rather have peterson I know he has been banged up alot but that is a fire and brimstone mutha fu(ker right there and I love watching him play. But if we are going with the best available I would rather have Crowder on a cheaper contract if it would allow us to snag one of the big three.
