Who would you want to operate on you?

A - A surgeon with a 26 year record of being generally solid at a major metropolitan hospital. Not amazing but he only had one major malpractice suit (found guilty) in his career, and it was over a decade ago.

B - A surgeon who graduated first in his class from medical school, interned at an inner city ER, was a star surgeon at a middling sized suburban hospital for 8 years, and for the last four has carried that same phenom status onto the national stage. Has pioneered several new procedures and is generally considered an exceptional talent in his field.

A will be assisted by a nurse who has only been out of school 20 months, prior to that she was a candy striper.

B will be assisted by a nurse with over 30 years experience, who has assisted on multiple extremely difficult operations.

So who do you want cutting into your flesh?

I don't know...

It would depend on his religious beliefs and his positions on gay marriage and gun control. ;)

Probably neither. I'll take my chances with some back alley nut as always.

Anyways both of them would probably refuse to discuss the details of the surgery instead pointing out their likability, prior service, and how they are both just like us ordinary folks

It doesn't really matter. We are heading for another great depression and the next "surgeon" will only be there for 4 years.
Vote Jay Cutler. :USA:

Surgeon A has said he'll give you details after the operation is done.

Surgeon B has already spoken to you several times about the gist of the operation, and has directed you to a website with detailed information on his personal views on the safest methods, the most effective methods, and the real nitty gritty on how he's going to cut into you.

So which one?

My rules on doctors is simple. I don't want the guy who is right out of school because they call it a medical practice for a reason. This guy hasn't "practiced" enough.

Second rule: never select a doctor that has so much practice that his hands shake from age and he can't even see when wearing his coke-bottle glasses.

I would be back to the end of the government controled waiting line (having a beer with Spider) looking for option #3. Something in between these two.

Bad analogy.

The analogy in the OP was more accurate.

If only it were that easy. I've seen plenty of old guys who are the best doctors around, and plenty more that haven't kept up with medical information for the last 30 years.

As for young guys - well they might lack experience but be the most up to date on current information.

Hard to know what to do.

Then you should educate yourself. Obama's website is a good place to start. Where he's posted both his economic and energy plans. You can either read the short and simple summary or you can download the PDF and read the much more in depth versions.

Thats kinda why I actually know what these two sides stand for, while about 75% of the conversation on this board comes from people who don't.

You can find Obama's stances on most anything on his website and his explicit plans for major parts of government on his website. McCain's campaign meanwhile has said they don't think they need a full economic plan until after the election, so good luck there (his comments don't paint a pretty picture though).

Depends on who is on call at the VA hospital at the time. On a side note, I actually think my vote may count this time. I've lived in Virginia for awhile, and this is the first time that I can remember this state being in play.

I would always do it myself, surgery like masturbation is best yourself. Ask yourself these questions: who knows your body better than you? Who is the most person in the world most concerned about your well-being? Can you trust anyone more than you can trust yourself?

Surgeon A thinks VAs are wasteful and you should be going to standard hospitals or private practice.

Surgeon B donates a lot of his free time helping at the local VA, so you could have him there if you want.
