View Full Version : NFL Power Rankings - Broncos #4

Wow... Lee Rissakoff (comcast news) has the Broncos at #4
1.Dallas Cowbows - The three best teams in the NFC (and maybe in the league) are all in the NFC East, and the best of them had a historic offensive night on Monday.
2.Pittsburgh Steelers - .....
3.New York Giants - .....
4.Denver Broncos - The team on the move is the Denver Broncos. Shanahan made the right call going for two.... his D couldn't stop Phillip Rivers in the second half. But I wonder hom many pundits would be ripping him if Eddie Royal dropped that pass.

Agreed, but with the way our offense is playing, Our D can probably get away with being average... Still top 10 out of 32, definately not top 5 as indicated here IMO...™

The Cowboys D was just as bad this week. The Eagles have their top two WRs out and still about beat the boys. I guess Im the only one that saw that.

We have to play a full 60 minute game at least once before we are top 10. Chargers won the 2nd half and they had 3 stars injured.
They are just building a house of cards to destroy when we lose.

Way too high. IMO the defense is so bad all it takes is for the offense to blow a couple chances and we could lose any game.
Then again these power rankings are totally subjective so really they are just for entertainment.

average?? I know the Dolts offense is good but did we stop them from scoring any point in the 2nd half? ( and i do not mean the last drive with 12 seconds here either) We have some serious issues with our defense! Cutler was smoking them in the 1st half but those 2 bonehead plays by Cutler would of cost us the game! I'm happy that we won! (get over it Dolt fans) but their is no way in &*&^% we can keep scoring 30 plus points and think our defense will man up sometime! A defense like Steelers or (dang) a Dolts defense that tightened up in the 2nd half can pretty much seal a loss for us! Remember in 06 on Sunday night??
#4 is way too high right now! but i will take it!

That's just silly. We are going to win some on our offense and lose some on our defense. If our defense gels over the season, we may be entitled to this ranking later on.

I'll be honest I'm kind of annoyed because I wanted to sneak up on the league but we've lit it up so much (good and bad) in the first few games that we're getting more attention in two weeks than we usually get all year. I'm concerned because this team is young and I wonder if they have the maturity and focus to ignore the press, especially all the good press, about themselves and just press through it. If we start believing we're as good as everyone is saying I fear for a let down.

Agree 100%. I like them to be completely under the radar until they make they playoffs.

They're just outside the top-10 in my book. They'll struggle to make the playoffs with this defense.

If we lose...as soon as we lose...will see how many of these folks stay on the bandwagon.
AND
If that should happen, it will be interesting to hear why they think we won't be able to bounce back to our lofty status. The national media loves to hate on our Broncos...I can't remember this much love in a long time...not even in 2005...have to go back to the SuperBowl years.

I don't see this defense much worse than the 2005 team that went 13-3. I think with our schedule...we can do that or get close this year. But, not unlike 2005...what happens when we have to play tough defense in order to win...could be Pittsburgh again. Let's say our offense is held in check...can our defense keep the Steeler's offense from beating us? That's the question IMO.
Got along ways to go though!

The difference with this years team vs. 2005 is we are Flashy--2005 was a workmanlike effort, week in and week out. I stand by my prediction of 11-5 and we will get a WC. with our offense we have a punchers chance to advance at least one round.....it will be fun to watch our offense and aggravating to watch our defense get flamed.

If we were to play Pittsburgh again in the playoffs, it would be interesting to see how it would play out since we are now better at passing than running. I think Pittsburgh is better at stopping the run than the pass. They are good at putting together blitz packages but hopefully, our young OLine will be up to anything anyone may throw at us by then. If Jay stays on his feet, we should have a chance in most games but it also leaves us vulnerable if we can only pass.

nothing defines the Flash like when Jay throws those TDs, Dre Bly runs up and hip bumps Cutler.

Having a high powered offense always means getting a lot of media love. The casual sports fan who tunes into football games wants to see highlight reel scoring, and the 2008 Broncos have been giving plenty of that so far.
Like broncfan7 said, it's "flashy". It's the same love the 2003-2006 Colts got, the Saints in 2006, the '07 Patriots, etc. Of course those teams sustained their attack for the majority of the season--let's hope we can do the same!

Exactly--we are a much more Sportscenter Friendly team than we were in 2005, hence more attention. Couple that with the injury to Brady and the 'experts' looking to anoint another QB into the upper echelon and they look no further than the orange & blue that sits a mile high.

Dallas's defense is about the same as Denver's but no one questions them being #1?
Pittsburgh has the best team then the Giants. After that it's a crap shoot.

because they are "Americas Team."
Romo, TO, Adam Jones, Romesicca....
Our most exciting stories are things like Marshall living in Cutlers basement during his suspension.
But i like it. Denver is all about Gameday, and our guys are gonna have a lot of fun while kicking butt!

Yeah, I don't see how this team can be ranked #4 in the NFL either. We don't have a defense.
It's just another media tribute to flashy offenenes that can score points and make for an entertaining game.
If we'd won those games 13-0 and 17-7 playing lights out defense, we wouldn't even be in the top 20.

Exactly right. We need major improvement but am starting to feel the same nausea regarding the Cowpies
that I felt last year about the Patsies. Media bias in full action.
