I was watching Inside the NFL tongiht they were talking about the call.

Anyways Chris the Dip***** say's that Ed should not be alowed to ref a playoff game because of the bad call.

He is one of the best ref's we have in this league. Is it really fair to say he should not be allowed to ref a playoff game because he made a bad call. I meen really? Get over it, humans make mistakes.

What do you all think?

Chris is just parroting what was already said by the nfl ...
no news ... and that is how it has been forever , nothing new .
feel bad for Ed , but that is how the system works ...
They are graded on their performance just like a player .
Have a bad year and you don't get the prestige games at the end of the year . Those games are a reward to refs ...

I guess Ed will be doing Lions and Rams games for now on. If you want to give Ed a big thumbs up , his email at work is the following ...@@@@@@@ (...ehochuli@jshfirm.com)

So many classless Chargers fans have contacted him so maybe he needs some uplifting emails.

Whoa, I didn't realise he got dropped? Or maybe I'm reading this wrong. He is definitely one of the better refs in the league. He stuffed up on the weekend, but he manned up about it right on the spot. He always does a good job at explaining the decisions and knows the intricacies of the game back to front.

I think that Warren hates the Broncos. So...I put a voodoo curse on him

Anyone who regularly watches football knows that Ed's probably the best in the business, hes the only guy who bothers to both admit his mistakes and explain the freakin play clearly after a challenge.

Him screwing up is like Champ Bailey getting burned for a game winning touchdown against a division rival, does that mean he shouldn't be voted into the probowl?

Rediculous.

Ed has answered everyone of his emails this week. He is a stand-up guy. I feel bad for him.

I watched the show for the first time since the switch to Showtime. It isn't quite as well put together but not bad. Warren is a jackass and is the only weak link.

They interviewed Shanahan and he basically reiterated how bad calls are part of the game and how similar things have happened to him during his career. Said you have to overcome adversity if you're a good team. He kind of had a smirk on his face when Collinsworth asked him if he talked to Norv after the game. I got the feeling he wanted to call him a b!tch and tell him to stop crying.

They also said that Cutler is the best passer in the league right now!

I think that Hochuli should be graded on the game like he's graded on every other game (along with every other ref). That play should be a negative mark, because he got it wrong. If, at the end of the season, Hochuli's grade warrants him officiating playoff games, he should do so, if his overall season performance is too poor, then he shouldn't.

Bottom line, there is a system for grading refs, and rewarding those who perform the best IN AGGREGATE. As bad an error that call may seem to the Chargers or anyone else, it is merely one of many bad calls that will be made over the course of the season by the officials. It carries no special bearing or weight in and of itself, and should not be singularly used to determine Hochuli's post-season status.

I agree with this, this also being my point. They flatout said that he should not be able to ref playoff games because of this one call.

I'm still pissed that INFL is on Showtime instead of HBO these days. Stupid move by HBO. One of the only reasons I kept my subscription was because in INFL.

I'm pissed that they put the stupid loud mouth Sapp on there. Man he just adds nothing but crap to this show.

The Deacon Jones segment from last weeks show was incredible.

Also, about Hochuli. I don't disagree with the main point they were trying to make, which is that if the NFL lets him ref a playoff game that playoff game will become all about Ed, and not the games/teams. Better to let him skip this year's playoffs, then return next year after there's been some distance.

Hey Mr. Hochuli, Im pretty sure you’ve been lambasted over the last few days for the bad call you made.

Yes, I am a Bronco fan, yes I would be upset if the shoe was on the other foot and we got screwed. But I wanted to tell you that despite a bad call, I still think you are one of, if not the best ref in all of football. In my experience in watching many games (not just Bronco games) you have been the most fair and accurate from what I can see. I think it is a downright travesty that the national media has vilified you so badly for a simple mistake. It is as if no one has ever made a mistake in their life.

At the end of the year, I have the upmost confidence that you will still grade out as one of the top referees in the game and you have the support of at least one NFL fan (not just a Bronco fan).

I find it ironic that because the media darling Chargers lost, that such a big deal is being made yet in the Monday night game the exact same situation happened (a call was prematurely blown dead, that prevented the opposition from getting the ball) when DeSean Jackson flipped the ball on the ground prior to getting a touchdown. It’s a backward pass, aka lateral, which is perfectly legal anywhere on the field and should have been a fumble and Dallas should have recovered. Yet because at the time of the call it was not a game decider, no big mention was made of it. It doesn’t matter WHEN a bad call is made IMO, but it also goes to show that our officials of the game everyone loves are in fact, human and do in fact make mistakes.

It’s part of the game. Every sport has bad calls, no one is perfect and the way they have essentially crucified you for this is a (pardon my French) ****ing shame. I certainly hope you can shrug it off and continue on with your excellent career. Do not let them bother you and know that you have the support of a great many fans out there, and most of them are not Bronco fans. The blogosphere has been alive with talk about the call and you and most of what I have seen have shown you support for your mistake.

What was most excellent is the way you admitted your mistake on national TV. How many of these so-called journalists would have the guts to do that? Certainly not Jim Rome or any of the other moron talking heads out there.

Keep your spirits up Mr Hochuli.

Hochuli is terrific, but this was a major, major mistake. Give him a year off post-season. He'll live.

You'd be singing a very different tune if the teams were reversed 0707

Disagree. The NFL needs to put it's best officials on the field come playoff time. If Ed is in that group based on their rating system, he needs to be on the field. Period.

I wouldn't let the media and fans dictate to me what is best for my sport.

why is this mistake so major? it's no more "major" than the same call in the Dallas game...are you suggesting that the timing of a mistaken call be taken into account when grading a referee? on what grounds?

I suppose you could view it from the "choke" factor point of view, but I don't think that's what's happening here. I think the media let this one take on a life of its own, so the league should hide one of their better refs in the post-season...to me that's some spineless shyt right there...this call is not bigger than the referee scoring system

but as most charger fans feel, the broncos paid him....hopefully hes our ref in playoffs too, well pay him again. another charger fan on this board had the balls to say a bronco FAN messed with the replay tape.

fans routinely have access to the inner workings of football stadiums, and would want to damage something that is just as likely to help their team as hurt it. no wonder chargers are destined to relocate.
