Gosh. I don't know what to say to our buddies at the Planet. Let's look on the bright side of things, though.

The Rams might be worse.

It's just growing pains. Just a matter of time before Herm gets things turned around.

You have the Falcons this week. It's a winnable game. Make the AFC proud!

LJ was just having a moody day. His leadership skills will come to the front pretty soon.

Your WR corps is healthier than Seattle's.

You might be in a position to have two A+ drafts in a row!

At least the Rams have an above-average QB, RB and WR. The Chiefs don't really have any of those.

You know, the weird thing is that I'm thinking about going back about five or six years into the archives to find some of their threads about how kick-ass that offense is and who cares if the D isn't all that, or whether we're getting lots of breaks from the officials, because we're leading the division anyway ...nyah, nyah, nyah.

I used to enjoy talking smack with Chiefs fans, but ever since Herm was hired, I just don't have the heart for it. It doesn't feel right to smack with people who you pity. Herm is a terrible coach with weak credentials, and the respective likewise goes for the man who hired him.

If they get rid of their coach, GM and find a real QB, then they will be looking down on everyone else if those draft picks pan out. Add high draft picks for 2009 and their future might be bright. Kick them while they are down because I am sure they would do the same to us. I just hope they can muster up a few wins and keep the Faiders in last place.

That's funny. Those are exactly the rumblings I'm hearing on this board these days. How the offense and Cutler will carry the day for the Broncos.

I remember many of you telling us how an explosive offense and less than average defense would never work and we would always be exposed as pretenders because you have to have balance. We even had killer special teams to compliment the offense.

Remember boys and girls....defense wins championships.

I learned that mantra right here on Orangemane. Everyone was singing it.

Yeah, that was my whole point .... although there is one major difference. KC, in it's glory days, such as they were, was accomplishing a lot of that stuff with an aging group ... Roaf, Shields, Green, Holmes, etc. Denver's offensive stars look to be young enough to hang around for a good long time. Hopefully, we'll have better luck at building a defense than you did.

To be fair though the changed rules favor offense more these days. IIRC there was also an article on espn (by Sando?) that officials are not calling OL holding as much as they used to. The chiefs team of few years back would have a better chance now.

Crazy,

I agree about D winning championships. Do I think we will win it all this year? No.

Am I happy that we have a ton of Picks stockpiled and we are in position to trade away depth on O? YES!

Do I think we are one good Defensive Draft/blockbuster trade away from a Dynasty for the ages? YEP!

Well, Herm's five year plan with the Jets went something like this:

10-6, then 9-7, then 6-10, then back up to 10-6, then whoops, down to 4-12.

He managed to take the Chiefs to 4-12 in just his second year, so there's no telling how exciting things could get from there.

The Chiefs are rebuilding. I don't understand why their fans are so down except that they have no patience. The ones b****ing and complaining are the ones who don't understand. Yeah, they've made some big mistakes like not drafting a QB this past year but they can correct that next year. You're not going to be able to fill all the holes at once.

Do they really want to go back to stop gap washed up vets and 7-9 seasons again? The Chiefs are finally doing the right thing and their fans need to realize that. Yeah it sucks having hopeless seasons. I've been there and done that during most of the Bobby Bethard era here.

I think boltaneer is basically right, although it's difficult to really rebuild until you find at least a servicable QB...Johnson just got paid, but I'm not sure he'll have the mental toughness to make it through the hard times or the stamina to still be good once the team improves...

KC fans are definitely deluding themselves if they were hoping for better...if I were one, I'd be concerned about the overall strategy for turning that thing around, because I'm not sure I see one.

Early in the third quarter Week 2 against the Raiders, Larry Johnson rumbled up the middle for a 2-yard gain, his 12th carry against the Oakland Raiders. It turned out to be Johnson's last -- and he didn't like it. Unhappy with his role in a dismal offense, Johnson lashed out at Kansas City's coaching staff and front office Sunday, saying he didn't see himself being a part of the team in the future. "Something's going on -- I just don't know what it is," Johnson said after a 23-8 loss to Oakland in the Chiefs' home opener. "I'm going to sit down and talk with someone." Johnson had a relatively successful start to this season, running for a team-high 74 yards on 22 carries in a hard-fought 17-10 road loss to the defending AFC champion New England Patriots. He didn't have nearly the same impact against the Raiders, finishing with 22 yards for a 1.8 per-carry average, and complained about it afterward. "I've been here long enough to know that if I'm not getting the ball, then I'm tired," he said. "If I'm not tired and I'm not getting the ball, something's going on and I've got to deal with it."

It'd be tough. For the moment, I do kinda feel sorry for them. We haven't really faced the tough times they have in quite a while. Certainly not since Elway. Tough to dedicate hours of your time every week to a team that is looking down the barrel of 0-16. Came close to it last year and could be around there again next year. - No they probably will pick a win or 2, but between and including seasons 07 -09 they'll probably have a combined record of around 9 - 39 (That gives them 5 wins to split between the next 2 years)

I never feel bad for the Chiefs. I think since the mid 90s they've had the best record against us in the division, being 12-12 since 1996 while we're 18-6 against the Raiders and 16-9 against the Chargers in the same period.

The Chiefs are mainly as bad as they are because they are the youngest team in the league.

Herm may not be a great coach, but he is a good judge of talent in the draft from what I have seen.

Bowe-Great pick
Page-Great pick, especially from the 7th round
Pollard-Looking great this year.
Flowers-Great pick
Albert-Has looked good so far. Better than Williams and Long who were drafted ahead of him.
Charles-Looks pretty good. Will make an impact.

KC is building the pieces. If KC has another great draft class which includes a good QB-insert Stafford hopefully-, then KC could be a rising team within the next 2 seasons.

I see the Chiefs taking Matt as well. Hopefully it will be with the #1 overall pick. Add that to the two #1s last year....along with grossly overpaying LJ...and you have a team that will be in cap hell in no time.

Herm may not be a great coach, but he is a good judge of talent in the draft from what I have seen.

Bowe-Great pick
Page-Great pick, especially from the 7th round
Pollard-Looking great this year.
Flowers-Great pick
Albert-Has looked good so far. Better than Williams and Long who were drafted ahead of him.
Charles-Looks pretty good. Will make an impact.
A coach to f*** it all up- great pick

KC is building the pieces. If KC has another great draft class which includes a good QB-insert Stafford hopefully-, then KC could be a rising team within the next 2 seasons.

Where is Bob, did he disappear? He should, this Chiefs team is maybe the worst ever. LJ and TG that's all they got, they got nuttin' else!

Well we had that last year. Im looking for such absolute and complete domination that Arrowhead will become a home away from home as a way of building off of last year.

The only good news for them is this is the season that will probably get Herm and Carl out of KC. Until then its going to be more of the same.

Pretty much.

.and you have a team that will be in cap hell in no time.

The ratio of people writing about NFL being in cap hell compared to the teams that have actually been in cap hell is astronomical.

Pretty much.

Hey at least there is talent on the team. Dorsey and Albert look good. I'll admit I thought Albert would bomb at LT but he looks ok (though his run blocking is well below what I expected). Flowers is going to start for a long time and Bowe and Gonzo will be much better if you guys ever get someone to throw them the ball. Your punter is pretty good too. You guys need help at line, DE, LB, QB and kicker. Throw in a real coach and things could turn around. Good luck!

Heh, I agree with the sound of this season's toilet flushing. I do however think personnel wise we have a good core of players. esp on defense. I am loving our young CBs.

If we can get a coach that doesn't play too scared to do anything buttsex football I think this is a team heading in the right direction. That is a big if. Alot of problems will improve with a better established o-line. I think we have the skill players to have an adequate offense with a line that isn't a **** sandwich.

How the hell they have dismantled the offense so bad is beyond me. They had the strongest offense in the league in terms of total yards the year before they hired Herm Edwards a little more than 2 years ago. Now they have the 27th ranked offense in 2008. Their defense was 25th in the league in yards per game in 2005 before Edwards, and is 24 now.

They have gone backwards so fast it makes teams like the Raiders and 49ers look like dynasties.

Of those three, only one is a proven winner. I'm sure you HOPE Croyle and Thigpen have bigger upsides than Huard, but that's simply not the case at this point...

Well, this isn't defending Herm because I would like a different head coach...

But...

Vermeil's draft ****ed us so hard. He put together that amazing offense...woohoo...tons of points...yay...everyone is having fun. Then his crusty old guys got really crusty and couldn't play anymore...so they are gone. And then he drafted total ****. Just complete messes for drafting. We only got like a few good guys. So you have old guys gone and very few talented new guys coming in.

That leaves you with a ****ing mess.

Herm? Player decisions? Yes. Great job.

Gameday coach? ****ing ****.

Croyle got injured. He wasn't playing poorly before injury, considering his lineman on the right side were less lineman and more so ushers to his location in the backfield.

KC isn't going to get any better until they get a real QB. They have some talent, but it's not going to matter if they keep throwing guys like Croyle and Thigpen out there. At least with Huard they can be somewhat competitive. Somewhat.

Jake Long is playing phenomenally.

From what I've seen he has been playing really well in the run game, but average at best in pass protection. Kenyon Coleman sucks bad and Long handled him, but Berry beat Long multiple times and got a sack.

Well, the good news for Chiefs fans is that you should get your first win in awhile this week, because Atlanta really isn't very good. I mean geez ... who is left there?

Vick is gone. Crumpler's gone. So is Rod Coleman, Warrick Dunn, DeAngelo Hall and Joe Horn. They just got whipped by Bob Griese, for crying out loud.
