It's about time.
ENGLEWOOD — The Broncos are done saying, “No Moss.”
When the team plays host to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, former No. 1 draft pick Jarvis Moss is expected to make his 2008 debut after two weeks of being declared inactive as a healthy scratch.
“I’m going to get myself ready this week and practice like I’ve never practiced and watch film like I’ve never watched film,” Moss said Wednesday. “And I plan on having a big game.”
Throughout training camp, Moss filled a pass-rushing role in nickel situations. Facing run-heavy teams like Oakland and San Diego to open the season might have factored heavily in the decision to keep him in street clothes on game day. But at the same time, in obvious passing situations, the Broncos have struggled to apply consistent pressure.
The thought seems to be that Moss could be a pick-me-up if he can throw down Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who spearheads the NFL’s No. 7 pass offense.
“My goals haven’t changed at all,” said Moss, who said in training camp his goal is eight sacks this season. “It’s my first game, three weeks in, and I need to get it started right now. That’s something that helps me on Sundays is that drive, that no one can stop me.”
Actually, the coaches were able to pull the plug long before the weekend. The call to sit Moss hurt him personally both weeks but especially last Sunday, when he flew people into town to watch him not play.
Moss said he must abide by what is decided, and he does, especially since the Broncos are off to a 2-0 start without him.
But he doesn’t have to like it.
“It’s kind of personal,” he said. “I want to prove to everybody that I should be playing every single week.”
Even though the coaches kept him informed of their plans the past couple of weeks, it didn’t make Moss feel any better once the decision was made to bench him.
“It’s tough,” Moss said. “You kind of feel like people don’t believe in you or think they can’t count on you. I know that’s not the case. They wouldn’t have picked me where they did if they didn’t have faith in me and just get ready to call quits on me so soon. I know my coaches believe in me. That’s why I’ve got this opportunity this week.”

Changes that should be made this week:
Jack Williams over Karl "PI" Paymah
Jarvis Moss over Engleberger (yes, I know this will be a run liability, wait, it gets better).
Woodyard over Nate "Woo Lick" Webster
Abdullah (Healthy?) over Manuel, keep him in the box for run support.

I suspect last Sunday may have been a bit of an eye opener for the coaches.
Jarvis will be active most games from now on, and will likely see more than his fair share of snaps. Unless he's completely sucking donkey balls in practice then you have to have him in there on passing downs in the games, you just can't give QB's the time we afforded Rivers on Sunday and expect to stop anyone.
At the minute, the lack of development of Moss and Crowder is what's stopping this team being a real force. The only way we become a legitimate contender this year is if these two start contributing something as the season wears on.
They don't have to be pro-bowlers, just become a bit of a threat to get to the QB and give us something other than Elvis to worry our opponents with on 3rd downs. Just give us some flashes and help us make some key 3rd down stops.
We don't need a dominant D to contend with the offense we possess, just a competent one who can hold their own and not get driven on every single series.
If we can get something from these two as the year goes on, then things might get interesting. As it stands though, it's very much looking like wishful thinking as they've produced nothing thus far.

We can't trade him. We literally don't have another human being on the roster that could even describe to you what a quarterback sack is.
He's a liability against the run, and you're right... he did make a sloppy play on that Sproles run... but he's absolutely the ONLY guy we have with any pass-rush skills.
That said, Dumervil tends to go absolutely AWOL against good teams in big games. That's a trend that needs to end in a big way.

What gets me from that story is how he says he is going to practice and watch film like he never has before.
Maybe he should have had that attitude all year so he wasn't inactive. I doubt we see much from him on Sunday. A bunch of him running and hitting the wall that is an OT.

No denying that, but it's hardly surprising when he's our only pass rushing threat whatsoever is it?
Teams with good lines can just double Elvis and take him out of the equation, knowing that nobody else on our line is likely to cause any hassle, even with only one blocker each to negotiate.
We desperately need Moss and Crowder to start showing something, anything. If teams start having to keep an eye on them too then Elvis will benefit in turn. Ekuban being completely healthy again would be nice too, as he at least has some pass-rush ability unlike Engleberger.

Dude Moss needws to be out there regardless.
He still needs the reps and the experience.
Dumervil is a situational pass rusher who doesnt know whether to rush or get blown backwards on a running play when hes playing 1st and 2nd down.
Then on the other side we have a guy in Engelberger who has no pass rush ability at all.........But yet we wonder why we dont get any pressure???
Just start Crowder and Moss and rotate after that depending on situations.
Moss if he keeps gettign stronger should be able to hold his own vs the run and thats something Dumervil cant do.
Moss= 3 sacks this week.

The reason Jax let us trade up was because it was understood we wouldnt take Nelson. If we would of told Jax that and went ahead and drafted Nelson no one would ever trade with us again.
So no we realistically never had a shot at Nelson.

Thats a divisional emotional type game.
Cowboys went on the road and shut the browns down and came back home to get torched on defense by a divisional team.
Shyt happens within the division.

His best chance of getting a sack Sunday is if he trips and falls towards the qb at the line of scrimmage.

Muslim Broncos adapt to Ramadan
By Mike Klis

Surely, God understands this is Raiders Week.
Broncos players and devout Muslims' Ryan Harris and Hamza Abdullah will honor the Ramadan season this month without participating in their usual 30-day fast.
"There are sacrificial alternatives," Abdullah, a safety, said. "Of course fasting is No. 1. You'd like to fast, but we don't do it to bring hardship to yourself or your health. You can substitute fasting with feeding the needy, helping out the homeless, things like that."
Harris is the Broncos' starting right tackle, a position that will require all his strength and energy if he is to keep the likes of Raiders' defensive end Derrick Burgess off quarterback Jay Cutler in the Monday night season opener in Oakland's Black Hole.
People of the Muslim faith fast from sunup to sundown and though large meals are often devoured after dark, it doesn't compensate for the bouts of draining weakness the body experiences during working hours. Harris is participating in other Ramadan rituals, like saying five prayers a day, but because he is in a career where his body is his temple, he can't afford to fast from 6:30 a.m., today's sunrise, to today's sunset at 7:25 p.m.
Had Harris insisted on the fast, he would have had the blessing of Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.
"I grew up Catholic and I have a lot of Jewish friends," Shanahan said. "You respect other people's beliefs. Hamza came to me last year and I said, 'Hey, you do what you believe in. But then I said, 'When it gets dark, I'll have some food for you.' "
Abdullah did go through the full Ramadan fast last season, but decided to modify it this year. He suffered a torn hip flexor about halfway through Ramadan last season, and while he doesn't believe the injury was related to fasting, "I'm sure it didn't help," he said. "I want to be smart about it this year, I don't want to take any risks.
"On light days, days off, I'll fast. So I got to fast the last two days but today, because it's a big work day, I consulted with my father and a few higher members, and they agreed I should eat something."

Wow, holy ****, I just got that. I seriously thought that was a reference to the 3.14 pi (as in: Karl Paymah surrenders a never ending number of completions) and not the pass interference pi.
I actually think I like my interpretation better.
Why do you like your interpretation better? What does pi have to do with Paymah other than Pass Interference? Seriously, check the box scores of every game he is ever in, you will see at LEAST one PI call on his ass every game.

Shanahan is treating Moss like a windup toy. He purposely benched him for two games to let him seeth on the bench. Jarvis gets his chance to unwind on Sunday. If he responds to the challenge and plays well, he'll probably move into the starting lineup. If doesn't show up, Moss will end up in the doghouse similar to Mike Bell. It will be interesting to watch.
Those were just game reps he needed to get back in game time shape.
Hopefully hes been working on his moves.

How do you know this?
People keep saying we could of had Nelson but what evidence do you have?
The reason Jax let us trade up was because it was understood we wouldnt take Nelson. If we would of told Jax that and went ahead and drafted Nelson no one would ever trade with us again.
So no we realistically never had a shot at Nelson.
I dont like Moss, but the Nelson argument holds no water.
THANK YOU... PLEASE, PLEASE STOP. This is one of my biggest pet peevs. Jax had Nelson targetted. They would NEVER have traded with us if we were planning to take Nelson. We NEVER had a shot at Nelson. People need to stop pretending that we did. PLEASE.

Wasn't this the problem in the first place?
If you practice like you've never practiced then wouldn't it be like never practicing?

no excuse, it's just that he hasn't played much. He is 100% the least experienced Dlineman we have, the fact that he looks like Dumervil with an injured finger is pretty encouraging to me. That means maybe he'll start putting together a couple games here and there as he develops. He could have looked like Crowder who has completely dissapeared since like week 3 of last year.
