John McCain
Watchdog Group Demands McCain Fire Lobbyists Davis and Black

WASHINGTON, May 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Campaign Money Watch, a campaign
finance watchdog group, released the following statement from its director
David Donnelly today regarding Sen. John McCain's continuing refusal to remove
lobbyists from positions of power on his campaign:
"In the two-and-a-half weeks since Campaign Money Watch launched
FireTheLobbyists.com, John McCain has failed to fully address the crisis in
his campaign. Despite a handful of departures, as many as 120 lobbyists remain
raising money for, staffing, or advising McCain.
"Given the McCain campaign's weak response to this crisis, immediate and clear
action must be taken. Charlie Black's past role advising such clients as Jonas
Savimbi, terrorist rebel in Angola, Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines, and
Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire, in our view, should disqualify him from working on
a campaign to elect the next president of the United States. He ought to be
fired.
"But that alone won't resolve this crisis. Nor will a loophole-ridden internal
'conflict' policy written by lobbyist and campaign manager Rick Davis. As
campaign manager, Davis led the campaign into this crisis and disarray. In
addition, Davis's clientele over the years has included companies with
business in front of McCain's Senate Commerce Committee, and shady foreign
business interests. McCain ought to fire Davis, too.
"A fish rots from the head. The same goes for campaigns that rely on lobbyists
whose only interest is cashing in for their clients regardless of what's right
and what's wrong. As a step in the right direction, McCain ought to remove
Davis and Black immediately.
"McCain's placement of lobbyists at the top of a campaign dominated by other
lobbyists has left him completely without credibility to discuss how to reform
Washington's money swamp. If he does remove lobbyists Davis and Black, John
McCain will still have distance to travel to reform his own campaign before he
could ever reform Washington."
A week ago, Campaign Money Watch released a web ad called "Lobbyists,
lobbyists" to the tune of "Lollipop, lollipop" to describe four top lobbyists'
connections to McCain's campaign. The video can be seen at
www.firethelobbyists.com.
Campaign Money Watch, a project of Public Campaign Action Fund, works to hold
politicians accountable for opposing comprehensive campaign finance reform and
doing special favors for big money donors and lobbyists.

And what about his campaign manager, Rick Davis?
McCain repeatedly intervened on behalf of a policy Cablevision favored -- one which "congressional and private studies conclude could make cable more expensive" -- while his chief political adviser, Rick Davis (who's masterminding McCain's probable '08 presidential rerun) solicited $200,000 in contributions from Cablevision to an institute that promotes McCain and pays Davis a $110,000 annual salary.http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0309-35.htm
John McCain's "own campaign manager, Rick Davis, has been a registered lobbyist for GTECH (the world's largest lottery company, which has been under the shadow of possible federal prosecution for years) as recently as June 1999," the Center for Public Integrity reported March 2, 2000.

And today's slimeball, lying ad from the lying scumbag McCain accuses Obama of passing a bill that teaches sex ed to 5 year olds, except that it was a program to teach children what to do if confronted with a pedophile and how to recognize bad touching by a pedophile.
Perhaps McCain has some reason to protect pedophiles? After all, there's no denying the Republican Party is the party of pedophiles. Plenty of evidence for that. Maybe McCain is just responding to the pedophile lobby?

The general populace of American voters, state they are voting for the "lesser of two evils" - so tell me again why is voting for "evil" acceptable? Don't "we" demand better?

Josh, I think "lesser of two evils" is generally a hyperbolic statement. Although I support Obama, I don't think McCain is "evil." I just think the policies he want to implement/continue are bad for the country. On the other hand I feel, on the balance, Obama's proposed policies will put us back on the right track. I do not agree with him on everything (anyone who finds themselves in agreement with any other human being 100% of the time simply isn't thinking), but I think he will take an intellectual, pragmatic approach to the office, and listen to and consider opposing view points. That alone will be an improvement. Just my thoughts.

I respect your opinions for why you are voting for Obama. I can't stand him after looking at his voting record for civil rights issues (telecom bill, patriot act, etc) -

Well, my ideal Utopian world doesn't exist (I call it Enlightened Anarchy - ala HD Thoreau, etc). That's just it, perfect doesn't exist. But you have to demand and push for it, eventually you get a moment - and that's all you get.
If you continue to play by the rules that are set, to keep the status quo - status quo - you are part of the problem. You hear these guys talking about change, but there is no change.
So there isn't a perfect person - but my standards are higher. I refuse to vote for "evil" because i'm told that those are my options. Not true. I have other options.

Good question. Personally, I think when you hear a lot of people complain about not liking the two candidates and voting for the "lesser", it's just lip service. It's a fad to pretend to be above the fray, to not be tied to anything ideologically, but when it comes to putting up or shutting up most people vote for the guy on their team. I think this is another factor. American politics has two "teams" that people side with. It becomes less about individuals and ideas, and more about the "team." These Repubs on the board who claim that they won't vote for McCain...I don't buy it. At the end of the day, they will pull the lever for him, IMHO. Same with the Hillary voters who say they'll go McCain. I don't buy it.
