They still look iffy to me. If Eddie Royal is in Buffalo or Chicago or Philly or any number of other teams his return numbers would've been substantially better.
I really want to enjoy this victory and I definitely think this team is light years ahead of where it was last year, but we can't just continue to plug in huge legs at kicker and punter and speed at returner and figure that everything will work itself out. If we can't cover and we cant block, it's going to be more of the same.
Punt coverage looked very nice. Our kickoff coverage not so much. I didn't see the kickoffs in the second half. Can someone please tell me that I'm overreacting?

I was happy with the kickoffs and punts in general. We didn't have good coverage on the first two but afterwards we did pretty well.
As for the returns we do need to work on the blocking for Royal - but he'll get his shots for sure.

Royal's no Glen Martinez...and that a GOOD thing.
Coverage grades out at about a B to B-, IMO.

Our return game? Looked to me like Royal being dynamic was the only thing the kept it from being abysmal.
I'm huge homer and I'm not one to always pick out the negatives. I just think with the youth on this team and what looks to be a middle of the pack defense, our special teams could be the difference between this team being pretty good and really good.

Other than that first kickoff i think all were well covered...maybe one other wasnt so much, but nothing like that first one. Prater bombed most of em into the end zone even though they brought some out.
Im going to assume that during the 8 games in denver only a tiny percentage of kickoffs will even be returned

I just wish they would move to average.

he results showed........after the first quarter.....
We started popping heads before the 25 most the time.
And dude was bringing it out 3-4 steps into the endzone often.

Is that Prater or O'Brien?

Yeah, pretty weak, looked like the same old song and dance, except with a punt returner who actually knows what he's doing. I was pretty pumped they put champ on coverage though, was he there last year too?

The thing that I saw on our punt return team...which puzzled me, was that we let the gunners go straight down the field. I mean, we didn't even hardly bump them...and they were in on the tackles. I didn't quite get that...was it because they didn't know what the heck they were doing or are they coached to let them go?

Yeah but shane lechler is a pro bowl punter, We didnt get many shots at returns from his long high punts.
And i dont know why people keep saying our special teams was horrible.
Broncos had great field position for most the game.

The only return we sucked on was the first...the rest were pretty good with at least 1 TB...the kicks seemed to hang in the air give the coverage team to get down field and make the tackle...minus the 1st return pretty good...also prater didn't miss any field goals

St is the only area for concern as far as I can see thus far... Prater looks good, Kern looks good, but the coverage and blocking looks decent at times, horrible at other times

That's exatly the point of my post. I think our kicker and punter and returners are strong. Not so sure about the rest of the guys on the unit. Or is it just scheme?
It concerns me that whenever i see people talking about the game invariably the only thing they mention about special teams is the number of field goals mad or missed or that we had or gave up a big return. People often forget the third phase of the game and that can be the difference between being pretty good and really good.

So he's not going to score any TDs? Man, that stinks.
Besides the first kickoff, coverage was good, Prater was good, Kern was decent.
