View Full Version : Meet the Press? Not Sarah!

I found this one just incredible, as it exposes the depths of the RNC's real contempt and arrogance for "all the little people" -- everybody who, according to McCain, makes less than $5 million per year.

Regards,

======================

The Nation -- Sarah Palin is an able liar, as her acceptance speech showed. She may be a coward, too, at least when it comes to facing down the reporters she blasted from the comfort of that solitary podium in St. Paul.

The McCain campaign has admitted to a ban on most press interviews for its largely unknown but popular running mate. McCain's aides are selling this highly unusual approach with rank contempt for the public. "Who cares?" laughed Nicolle Wallace, when pressed on why Palin won't take questions by Time's Jay Carney, on MSNBC. "But I mean, like, from who, from you?" she added, incredulous at the very idea of Palin taking questions from Time's Washington bureau chief. "Who cares? No offense," she added, "who cares if she can talk to Time magazine?" (Of course, it was Time's Jay Carney who had that "prickly" interview with McCain last week, which enraged his aides.) Booman Tribune reports the strategy in action this weekend:

The McCain campaign is literally going to try to sell Sarah Palin as a credible president without letting the press talk to her. For example, this Sunday, Barack Obama will appear on This Week with George Stephanopoulos, John McCain with be on Face the Nation, and Joe Biden will be on Meet the Press. Sarah Palin will be reading briefing papers in Alaska.

It's a big challenge for the press: Scrutinize Palin without access and correct her falsehoods during an all-out partisan war on the media's coverage, including heated charges of bias and sexism. That's tough, even if you're not sympathetic to reporters. And then there's the troopergate investigation, where Palin is tapping her inner Cheney to duck investigators' questions. It doesn't look like Palin will tackle any tough questions, at least until the Vice Presidential debate, unless there is a political cost.

Journalists should report on this press blackout as news in itself -- it is a big deal that after 8 years of Bush-Cheney secrecy, the G.O.P. is running a VP candidate who won't even make a pretense of answering questions from the press or investigators -- and activists can make the blackout an issue. The Nation has learned that MoveOn.org, for example, is launching a new "clock" counting how long Palin refuses to "talk to the press."

Ultimately, with proper coverage and pressure, voters can make a judgment about what Palin's actions as a candidate tell us about her character. She talks tough about reporters, but can't face them; she talks up government ethics, but won't answer an investigation under oath; she raves about her own pit-bull image on stage, but betrays a cowardice under actual pressure. In some ways, she is living out the very caricature that she drew of Obama last week -- all talk, no action -- coupled with the smug attitude of her predecessor, the sarcastic swagger and faux-populism of George W. Bush.

Well they won't be able to get away with it with responses like that. They could blow smoke and kiss ass and it might work if they deflected enough. But that's flat out insulting them. If they keep that up they're gonna get it where it hurts.

If Palin can't be trusted to answer even the softball questions that would be posed to her by a "news" media that is blatantly friendly to her political party, how can she possibly be ready to hold her own against foreign heads of state, or even stand with our allies?

Interesting if this is true that they are shielding her. Are they not going to allow her to receive questions at the Debate either. At some point they will cut her loose, they have to.

Let me warm my hands on this news: The McCain/Palin ticket is going to start the last two months of their campaign by insulting the press. Ha!

Can you say, "You're toast?"

I knew you could.

It's an embarrassment to women. Would they be protecting Hillary like this? No John McCain they wouldn't.

I'm watching Biden on Meet the Press and watched Obama earlier. Palin simply must get in front of the media so we can know what she knows and where she stands. Not from a prepared speech, not by her handlers, but by her. Saying that she has to get on the same page as McCain is BS. She is either ready or she is not. It did take Biden 8 days to get in front of the media after being selected as Obama's VP pick, but I bet he would have had zero issues about being interviewed. And would have known what he was talking about. Regardless if you agree with what he says or not, you cannot deny he is knowledgable about what is going on in the world. I do not have the same feeling about Palin. I eagerly await to see what she has to say on not only world issues, but national issues as well.

but thats why Hillary is a hellva woman ,even D man and some others would have to admit , Putting Palin up against Hillary would be like dipping a poodle in blood and putting it into a Shark tank ........... and the Republicans know this , they have to protect Palin , shield her , cant let Palin out on her own , Hillary would jack her up , you really cant blame the Right for protecting Palin either though , Hillary is battle tested , Palin while she likes to think of her self as tough , Smart etc ,her handlers know different ....Hillary would bust Palin up pretty bad over GOP Lies ..........I think the average person out there knows this

They won't let her be interviewed for exactly the reason the press wants to interview her. She is a neophyte who has NO position that is defensible, when she HAS a position.

And sorry, but the VP MUST be knowledgeable about most issues. And the VP
must be prepared to take charge in an instant...not after weeks of hiding and studying to prepare.

So far all she has shown is that she can READ a speech acceptably well.
I can't wait for the debate with Biden. Palin will be exposed.

So much for the anti-press campaign....I knew it couldn't last for very long.

We'll see if we get anything beyond her sardonic hockey mom act.

Assuming her handlers don't decide they still haven't prepped her
enough and make up some phoney excuse to cancel it.

Here's the first rule of politics: Never pick a fight with a guy who owns a printing press. They just spit in the eye of Time-Warner. Ha!

Look what happened to Hillary's campaign. It's a well known fact that
the Clintons and the press have a mutual hatred of each other.
You don't think all the negative articles about Hill and Bill influenced
the voters? Especially the ones painting Bill as a racist? Mere
coincidence that coming into the primaries Hillary had a two to one
advantage with the black vote and at around South Carolina it
completely evaporated to the point Obama was getting 90% of
the black vote.
Dumb, dumb, dumb on the part of McCain and Palin's handlers.
But do they really have a choice? They know the press would
eat a rube like Palin alive and so hope they can't get her prepped
fast enough to make up for all the negative press in the meantime.

You're right. This is a pathetic attempt at inoculation; Come out attacking the press until you've set them up as the enemy and then when they start asking Palin legitimate questions, they are the enemy. This is what they were doing when every Republican in the country was parroting the talking point, "The press is attacking Palin's family. The press is attacking Palin's family." Then, when Chris Matthew's finally pinned down a campaign spokesman and demanded who, exactly they were referring to, the guy's answer was, "The Blogs and US Weekly." Really pathetic.

I hope the American people are not so stupid that they fall for this. It actually is crucially important that someone who is a heartbeat away from the presidency knows what the **** they're about. Facing the heat from the press is how they prove they can face the much greater heat of the demands of the office.

If she is not allowed to talk to the Press, then the press must do its job and get digging to find the 'real' Palin.
Should be some 'nuggets' in there somewhere.

I'll be surprised if there is not an in depth article on Palin out in Time this week with the worst picture they can find of her on the cover. ;)
