I don't know about last chance. Maybe in the minds of more fans than care to admit it, but I don't think Bowlen will show him the door regardless of the outcome this season.

I for one am hoping to see some good old smash mouth football. I hope we run it down opposing teams throats over and over - and not get stuffed at the line every second play.

This is not Shanny's last chance. I know you are praying he leaves but regardless the outcome Shanny is here to stay.

Besides the team is in the midst of a major revampment he gets another year no matter what.

Royal, Marshall, Cutler, Clady, Young, Harris, Hall, Hillis, Scheffler, Dumervil, Moss, Crowder, Williams, Abdulah, Kuper, Thomas, and both kickers. 18 players with major PT that are all in year 3 or less. I think it's safe to say that Shanny is going to get another year or 3 to see how these guys play out. He's done a tremendous job of reloading the talent here. My personal opinion, we're a top tier RB and Mike away from the elite teams. Obviously we need some of the youth to pan out on the DLine, but I'm not willing to give up on Moss yet either.

What does last chance mean? If Denver goes 9-7 or 10-6 and don't make the playoffs is he getting fired? What if Denver goes 8-8 but really looks like they could be a team on the rise, which they obviously are? After all Vegas says Denver is going to win 7.5 games this year so if Denver wins 8 or more shouldn't that be a successful year?

I didn't look at the author of this article. Its Kizla worst writer in Denver. Very few people ever saw this but a few years ago Fox Sports RM had a show with Kizla, Hastings, and a few Broncos.

Well that year the Broncos were coming off another Indy ass kicking in the playoffs. Kizla had been slamming the team left and right. On the show it came up and Kizla said some BS and tried to brush it off. Well the Bronco (I can't remember who) pointed his finger and said I am one of those players you are ripping on how about you talk to me about it person face to face. Kizla just melted and put on an embarrassed smile and SHUT UP.

After that I have never taken the guys seriously again.

When Shanahan misses the playoffs for the third year in a row the fallout on this board will be epic. Talented journalists like Kiszla will be given the ultimate ammo to attack him. I'd say at least half of you will be calling for Shanny's head, half of the other half will be quietly weeping, and the last quarter of you will be in denial. Some of you, like Taco John, will get angry, and pen long posts about why Shanny is still the best coach for the Broncos.

Depending on how the Broncos miss the playoffs - say the Chiefs steal your postseason spot again like Lucy yanking the football away from Charlie Brown - Shanahan may resign. His arrogance and his pride will not allow him to endure an offseason of humiliation in which the national and local media and fan base is constantly nipping at his heels. However, if there is an injury to a key player - say, Jay Cutler or...uh....well just Jay Cutler since he's the only dude worth a damn that doesn't slip on McDonald's wrappers - if Jake Utler misses significant time due to injury, Shanny will blame missing the playoffs on that totally unfortunate circumstance, and use Patrick Ramsey as a scapegoat (Ramsey will be cut and trashed in the media).

Of course this is assuming Cutler's injury is actually legit, and not the result of Shanahan forcing him to play under unwise circumstances. Imagine if Cutler was out there with diabetes and post-concussion syndrome, or a bad knee. Don't put it past Shanny because we all know what happened to Al Wilson and John Lynch and lord knows who else. Of course all of the dirt on this would come out after the fact, and all of you would deny most of it most likely. But I digress.

The only other scenario in which Shanny might stick around if the Broncos missed the playoffs FOR THE THIRD STRAIGHT YEAR (note - Herm Edwards has never had this kind of drought) is if the defense didn't improve. Obviously Shanahan loves scapegoating defensive coordinators like Henry VIII killed off wives (I think it was VIII, anyway, could be wrong). If the Broncos finish in the bottom 10 on defense again, Shanny will surely dump...uh, I forget your no-name defensive coordinator, but the point stands. Shanny would dump that guy and go after some "big name" douchebag.

Of course then Kaylore would be telling us all how awesome Denver's defense would be in 2009 and that Shanny needed just ONE MORE YEAR and the Broncos would return to their glory days...of slipping into the playoffs as a wildcard.

Of course god forbid hell should freeze over and Shanahan actually gets your collection of sad-sack talent (apart from Cutler, again) to limp ass-backwards into the playoffs. This place would be like a 24-7 rave in the offseason with E being passed around like popcorn. And of course Taco would be unbearable.

Maybe you guys can sweep the Chiefs again. That would be a nice send-off present for "The Genius."

Denver could very well go 9-7 or 10-6 and not make the playoffs in the tough AFC, but does anyone here actually think Denver is not on the right track? Is there any doubt in anyone;s mind that Denver is building a team that will be very good for a long time? Denver might not make the playoffs this year but they will be much better in 2009. The future is so bright :sunshine:

I tell you what, we may lose, but by the end of the year, our team is going to be full of hope. Meanwhile you guys will spend the offseason wondering if your new defensive coordinator (whoever that poor schmuck will be) can fix your defense, and how many years Champ has left.

This is altogether confusing. I listen to you all slam Boob, I mean Bob, but then there is half a page discussing your deep appreciation for him. Very confusing indeed.
As a female, I am fairly ambivalent about it all, but I will say I think the Atlas signature is going to cause a seizure of somesort, though most guys might enjoy that.
And as for the actual content of Bob's trash talk, well seriously, does he really want to discuss KC's entry into the playoffs 2 years ago? Yeah, that was a great game against Indy <insert sarcasm here> That's something I would brag about, or not.

I hear ya Cut. A lot of people, especially analysts, are expecting us to run some sort of conservative offense and be very careful. Even with Marshall I don't think most opinions would change. I think Shanny will surprise some with his playcalling in this one. He really wants to win this one and shut people up. I have mentioned this in another thread, but a lot of people think Shanny will approach this game like he has Plummer at QB. I guess we'll see on Monday. I'm really expecting to see the deep pass though.

I don't think Shanahan will be too conservative in the play calling either. But I think he'll be pretty creative with the TE's in the passing game. So I expect to see alot of 2 and maybe even 3 TE formations.
