Biden, others hit the airwaves to counter Palin
By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Democrats shot back at GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Thursday, saying her convention speech was laden with partisan attacks but devoid of substantive answers about where the Republican ticket would take the nation.
Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden was dispatched to the television morning shows to deliver the response. The Delaware senator complimented Palin on the skillful delivery of a tough speech and repeatedly called Palin a competent and tough opponent.
Biden, speaking from Virginia Beach, Va., on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," quickly added: "Last night, what we heard was a lot of partisan attacks and no real solutions."
"I didn't hear a single word about health care. I didn't hear a single word about education," he said. "I didn't hear a single substantive thing."
The Democratic rapid response team in Denver scrambled to get Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on a media conference call to respond to Palin, whose hard-hitting speech ignited Republican excitement and was favorably received by television commentators.
"Gov. Palin, I think, did a good job last night. ... She mastered the words written by the Bush speechwriters and clearly delivered them well," Sebelius said. "What we heard last night was a lot of partisan attacks and no real solutions."
The surrogates for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said that Palin's assaults were aimed at diverting attention from campaign issues such as the economy.
McCain and Palin, Biden said on NBC's "Today" show, "don't want to own up to the last eight years and don't have a plan for the next four years."
Biden, who is scheduled to debate Palin in St. Louis on Oct. 2, already started playing the expectations game.
"Boy, she's going to be a tough debater," Biden said on CNN.

Hilarious! Ouch.
The Faux News anchor tried to spin this as somehow "sexist." Uhh I don't care if her name is Bob Palin, the only thing we learned about the Republican VP candidate last night is that she can deliver a speech written for her well and forcefully. Before we crown her a political superstar, would it be too much to ask Gov. Palin to answer a couple of questions? Maybe discuss actual policy issues (particularly foreign policy)? She's great at baseless partisan attacks...I'll give her that. We didn't learn much else, though.

Obama wants to nation build in Africa. What's the ultimate difference? Like I said before: we spend more money per student in this country than any other and yield poorer results. It's not a money problem it's a parent-student problem. I am not onboard with national subsidized healthcare. I am very much for health education, but I am not for giving the government greater control over our health problems. It creates a situation where the government will further tell us how to live our lives.

The RNC strategy summed up nicely in one paragraph.
LOL...the Bush speechwriter. Is Bush running? No. They are her speech writers now. The leader of the state of people that believe in creationism make me laugh once again.
McCain cut all his primary campaign staff after winning the nomination and promptly hired basically Bush's entire campaign staff from 2000 and 2004, the same campaign that tarred and feathered McCain with lies and slander in the 2000 primaries.
Also, can we refer to John Elway as a Bronco player? It is rather common in the english language to refer to someone by a previous occupation without always appending "former", as with much of the english language it is implied.
Everybody is a pretty bold claim.Going back to the GI bill, I belive they said it was too expensive, they say the same things about our roads.
Actually they said it was "too generous" and would promote people only enlisting for one tour of duty.
They think everyone who wants to go to college in this country and isn't from an independently wealthy family should put themselves on the line as their little toy soldiers their whole lives. Basically.

If they ask questions regarding foriegn policy , and economics, and not tailored to make one candidate appear better than the other, then Biden schools her.
Unfortunately the "Debates" we saw in the primarys were staged affairs and weren't really debates in any real form. The format they are built around will have a big influence. If the media pundits are the people allowed to ask the questions we'll get no substantive results, and I suspect that Palin will come off as looking an equal to Biden. Serve up a few softballs and you make people look good.
I wish Obama/Biden would agree to some town hall type debates where the questions come from the audience, because both are basically smarter and would probably do well.

"I didn't hear a single word about health care. I didn't hear a single word about education,"
Good. Federal Government doesn't need to be involved in this decisions these are local and state matters.
Same with abortion and gay marriage.
Notice how when Biden speaks no one remembers, or pays attention -- if Palin was a moot issue, and if the left were not afraid they would simply ignore her.
LOL...the Bush speechwriter. Is Bush running? No. They are her speech writers now. The leader of the state of people that believe in creationism make me laugh once again.
Notice how when Obama delivers a good line -- there is 0 in the media who give all the credit to the speech writers. Wow, is all they can say, as he is a great speaker -- Palin did very well in delivering her lines, but as the media's herd-narrative was that she is a stupid hick -- from some country called Alaska -- it HAD to be some slick writers pulling strings behind the scenes.
Based on what I heard her say before she was chosen as a VP pick while on Beck the words sounded like her, so she could speak them with conviction -- I dont think McCain could have delivered the same lines -- he has never been interested in getting at Alaska oil to my knowledge. I know some of her talk including the lipstick/pitbull joike was off the cuff and not on her teleprompter.
But again the double standard -- Palin gives a great speech -- they call her a puppet -- Obama gives a great speech -- they call him God.
Obama's mother gives birth to him out of wedlock at 18 -- she is Mary --Palin's daughter is a tramp, and is being forced and a target.
Biden raises his children as a widowed father and has a career -- and he is an example to all, but if a woman has a career, and her husband has to take a bigger role in raising the family -- they act like they value the role of mothers staying at home??
At least they talk to the press. How long is Palin going to be tucked away from the press and be treated like a little girl by McCain? 5 days, not one press conference. What are they afraid of? Her answers?
I think it was pretty clear McCain had some concerns about how insane the media treated her -- and her family right off. The media started making up news straight from Blogg sources.
The reason for the buzz is that she packed a punch and people like me who were not going to vote for McCain can now...
When the media slams her it may just backfire -- she is part of the middle class and the middle class are tired of the self-proclaimed intellectual elites (and in case you didnt know it the media is part of that ugly arrogant assuming underbelly.) Obama and Biden come off as arrogant pigs with their Greek Temples...
I still cant tell if the left is completely afraid of Palin -- or if they are intellectually dismissive of her views -- either choice is not smart for the left -- that's why they kept loosing to Bush... If they are disimissive of her views they will reflect their obvious hatred of the masses who have some common sense, and more in common with her than scrappy Joe Biden who spends how much on a one way ticket on Amtrack to work? Something like 96 bucks just one way -- and that was given as proof that he can connect? Its almost as bad as Mccain's inability to remember his 7 homes.

The government shouldn't be involved in the marriage game at all. I don't support calling it gay marriage, because marriage is between a man and a woman. I do support equal protection under the law. Civil Unions are exactly that, but really it's all semantics. Abortion should be a local and state issue. If the majority of people in stae X thinks it's murder and vote accordingly, then they have the right to govern themselves.

You are wrong. Congress sets the budget and spends the money in this country. Not the President. Congress and the President pass the Budget but congress creates it. Not the President. No where in the Consititution can a President make a law. Which is what the budget is...a law. The Presdient can submit all that he wants, but Congress can throw it in the garbage. That means they are the deciders.
Equally scary is that 99 percent of the black population in this country will vote for Obama because he's black and not his policies. Don't act like these two sides are any different.

What a dumb idea - everyone knows drunken cowboys and brainless beauty queens do a better job at governing. ;)

At least they talk to the press. How long is Palin going to be tucked away from the press and be treated like a little girl by McCain? 5 days, not one press conference. What are they afraid of? Her answers?
I just watched Sarah Palin on CNN giving her first stump speech. It is painfully obvious why they are keeping her away from the press. She read EVERY word from notes, stumbled when she lost her place and her timing for delivering the punch lines was off, way off. That she is totally inexperienced came across loud and clear. The residents of Cederburg WI seemed to love her but they are the base. I don’t think moderates or on the fence voters are going to find her so charming.
Funny. Thats Obama's sentiment on both matters to a T.
The U.S. Government has no right to legislate morality, but that is the platform the republicans have ran on since Reagan.
Obama meanwhile is the biggest state's rights advocate we've seen in a similar time frame, yet he gets painted with the "socialist" brush because he wants to raise taxes on the top 2% (while lowering them on everyone else), significantly fund R&D and development of renewables (through the private sector and free market), and make sure everyone actually provides their children with health care.
What a pinko.
