His experience is comparable to that of Lincoln, Wilson, Eisenhower, and Kennedy. On the other hand, guys like LBJ and Nixon were long-time Washington stalwarts. Not saying that means he will be a good President, but "experience" does necessarily signal anything either way.

Comparison of the value of experience:
Nurse 1 (unexperienced)
Patients starts having issues. Nurse takes stock of problem. Extra slow and careful so as to not screw up. Eventually chooses wrong course of action and patient dies.
Nurse 2 (decades of experience)
Patient starts having issues. Nurse takes stock of problem. Quick and effiecient, immediately chooses course of action while avoiding mistake of Nurse 1. Immediately makes a different mistake and patient dies.
End result? Patient died faster with the experienced nurse than the unexperienced one.
This wasn't a real person but a simulation that was run to test how well experience helps. The results showed that experience could help do things quicker but could also end in total disaster even faster than with an unexperienced person.
This "experience" argument is complete hot air. You don't know how they will perform until they have the office. Everybody thinks experience is the be all end all and that's why when the countless number of people who come out of nowhere with no experience and succeed always surprise everybody else.

Sarah Palin has had more executive experience than the last 7 Democrat VP nominees combined.
Biden no years executive experience
Edwards no years executive experience
Lieberman no years executive experience
Gore no years executive experience
Bentsen no years executive experience
Ferraro no years executive experience
Mondale no years executive experience
Palin has 6 years as mayor, 2 years as governor, 1 year running the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (an executive position)
The governor of Alaska gets more exposure to international and national security issues that any other governor in the nation.
As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's, and she oversees the Alaska National Guard, which unlike other NG division is ALWAYS on active wartime footing and in fact her job as Alaska governor requires her to oversee America's ballistic missile defense, there are all sorts of treaty issues, missile defense stuff, bases, etc up there, so being Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard is a VERY big deal, the military is a very big presence in Alaska. She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans, she successfully negotiated an oil pipeline agreement with the Canadian government (thus meaning that she has more foreign policy experience than Obama)....
And the most important thing is that Palin is # 2 on the ticket, not #1. It is okay for the vice president to be less qualified and experienced than the president and in fact, this is the way it usually is.
Funny how Democrats didn't care about experience between 2007-2008 when their top 3 presidential contenders had, combined, less experience than Dan Quayle had in 1988.

p.s. Obama's already admitted as much after called on the carpet.
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/08/20/america/abortion.php
But the Illinois proposal always had a companion bill. The accompanying legislation, called the Induced Infant Liability Act, would have allowed legal action "on the child's behalf for damages, including costs of care to preserve and protect the life, health and safety of the child, punitive damages, and costs and attorney's fees, against a hospital, health care facility or health care provider who harms or neglects the child or fails to provide medical care to the child after the child's birth."
Groups that favor abortion rights say that bill would have introduced the possibility that doctors could be sued for failing to take extraordinary measures to save the lives of pre-viable infants, those born so prematurely that they could not possibly survive. As a result, they argue, it is disingenuous of anti-abortion organizations to claim that Obama was moving to quash only a narrow and innocuous definitional bill identical to U.S. law.
"I can tell you the sponsors always wanted the entire package of bills, which were introduced together and analyzed together," said Pam Sutherland, who was president of the Illinois branch of Planned Parenthood at the time. "They never wanted them separated, because they wanted to make sure that physicians would be chilled into not performing abortions for fear of going to jail."
Here's the companion bill:
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=1083&GAID=3&DocTypeID=SB&LegId=3911&SessionID=3&GA=93
Synopsis As Introduced
Creates the Induced Birth Infant Liability Act and amends the State Finance Act. Provides that, if a child is born alive after an induced labor abortion or other abortion, a parent of the child or the public guardian may maintain an action on the child's behalf for damages, including costs of care to preserve and protect the life, health, and safety of the child, punitive damages, and costs and attorney's fees, against a hospital, health care facility, or health care provider who harms or neglects the child or fails to provide medical care to the child after the child's birth. Provides that damages shall be used to pay for the cost of preserving and protecting the life, health, and safety of the child. Provides that, if the child does not survive, the balance remaining after the costs of preserving and protecting the life, health, and safety of the child are paid shall be deposited into the Neonatal Care and Perinatal Hospice Fund, a special fund in the State treasury. Provides that the Fund shall be used by the Department of Public Health to make grants for neonatal care or perinatal hospice.
The companion bill is an all out assault against Roe v. Wade - giving free reign for abortion doctors to be sued up the ass if they don't do everything for those that are non-viable.
Also, the U.S. bill contained these words,
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c107:5:./temp/~c107rAkEq7::
`(c) Nothing in this section shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being `born alive' as defined in this section.'.
which the State Senate bill did not.
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/fulltext.asp?DocName=09300SB1082&GA=93&SessionId=3&DocTypeId=SB&LegID=3910&DocNum=1082&GAID=3&Session

McCain's Tricky Calculation
Palin is 'change'—but keeps the 'experience' issue alive.
Faced with a shaggy, seat-of-the-pants convention, Republicans are determined to get back on message. So now their new, more disciplined line is about experience. That's right, after John McCain selected a vice presidential candidate who is clearly unprepared to be president, his aides—and any other Republicans who want a future in the partyare singing from the same choir book. In speeches, interviews, a new ad, and even off-the-record sessions with reporters, the line is that Sarah Palin is more prepared than Barack Obama to be president.
I asked a senior McCain aide on Tuesday: "So what you're saying is that Barack Obama is not ready to be president on day one, but Sarah Palin is?"
"Yes," he said with a straight face.
Obama won 18 million votes, faced countless tough interviews and emerged with a reputation for fluency in discussing affairs of state, whatever one thinks of his politics. Palin's vote totals for mayor were measured in the hundreds; she has served only 20 months as governor of a state half the size of Brooklyn, and knows nothing of national or international issues beyond energy.
No matter. The argument stands.
Here's the logic, if you can call it that. Governors and mayors have executive experience, and the presidency is an executive job. Palin has been a manager and Obama has not. When faced with the obvious question—"So does that mean that Palin is more qualified than McCain, who has never been an executive?"— Republicans (working from talking points) have an answer. McCain commanded a training squadron in Florida in 1976 (the fact that he was not promoted to flag rank afterwards doesn't get mentioned).
continued...
http://www.newsweek.com/id/156982
Sarah Palin has had more executive experience than the last 7 Democrat VP nominees combined.
Biden no years executive experience
Edwards no years executive experience
Lieberman no years executive experience
Gore no years executive experience
Bentsen no years executive experience
Ferraro no years executive experience
Mondale no years executive experience
John McCain no years of executive experience.
FYI, Obama was an Illinois Senator for 8 years with a constituency about the same population of Alaska. He's now spent about 4 years in Washington as a Senator.
Palin has less than two years experience as governor, before that her next best claim to a executive position was governor of a small town.
She said in her speech that the difference between being a community organizer and a mayor is that she was accountable. Well what does it matter if you were supposedly accountable when you left your town more than $20M in debt while Obama grew his organization in funding (5 fold) and staffing (13 fold) with half the time?
I'll say it again. Barack Obama is the most qualified presidential candidate we've had since before Reagan. He's more intelligent and he's better educated as to what this country is all about at its constitutional core. His entire professional career is directly applicable to the job of POTUS, from defending voter rights as a civil rights lawyer, to being a civil organizer, to being a teacher of constitutional law. Everything he has done since graduating high school has helped to prepare him for the job. The only people who can't handle that are the blindly right or people who seriously want to vote based on who they'd rather have a drink with.

Well you admitted youre not political, but you should read the obama tax plan. He will increase taxes...on people making over 600,000 dollars. If youre in that bracket, you can probably handle it. Obama's plan will DECREASE taxes for 95 percent of America.
And obama's tax code is similar to reagans. Repubs keep forgetting that Bush to the conservative memo and ran it off a cliff. ITS BROKEN. If Obama rolls out the general democratic playbook, the middle class will strengthen. look it up, when dems are in office, the middle class is more prosperous

Good, then you support a party that protects the middle class instead of one more interested in making the rich richer and hoping (or not hoping) that it trickles down.
And its great that you give to charity, everyone should, but that doesnt mean we shouldn't support social programs that help fellow man. Not everyone has the same opportunities as everyone else. We live in the richest country in the world and the top 30,000 has more than the bottom 150,000,000. You think its cuz the bottom 150,000,000 are lazier than the top? Ummm, we can take care of each other and we should.
Social security, medicare, medicaid are some of americas most popular programs, all socialistic ideas. There's a lot of great things this country can do if we put the money in the right places. And guess what? The next big money making opportunity is alternative fuel, wind, solar. We have the ability to be at the forefront of that and thats where our resources should be going...not to the oil companies.

Sassy, there are problems with the welfare programs no doubt. My brother in law Can't work (MS), but it took six years for him to be able to get housing assistance, because the waiting list was so long. Until he finally got through that list he lived with my wife and I. No doubt some or even many of those on the list in front of him were perhaps scamming the system, abusing it.
But because there are problems with those people, doesn't mean that there are not those who DO deserve Help. And many of them don't have a family to live with for that waiting period. Therefore they get scrubbed off the list, when they can't be contacted at certain intervals. No reply = washout.
Part of the reason the list is so long is that Priority is always given to families with dependent children. In some ways this is understandable. Because their parents are scumbags do you throw the child out too?
Sure, welfare abuse happens. Women get pregnant just to increase their monthly assistance check, and then spend the money on anything but the children. Or the fathers are absent, or worse, abusive of the children and the spouse.
So tougher regulations get put in place, but they aren't effective because they target the wrong people . Many of the worst abusers are multigeneration welfare families, who know the ins and outs of the system so well they know exactly how to get around them.
Get a job...can't cause I'm pregnant again. Get a job...No child care available. Can't find a job that pays enough. The excuses are endless.
Make attending training courses that qualify them to get reasonable jobs MANDATORY. Failure to do so and then to eventually start work means you lose the children to the state, and get booted out. The exception should be those actually physically disabled, who really can't work. Those are the people who really do need help , and many of them aren't getting it.

It's not all that abuse it either...and yes, it's screwed. I just got tired of watching families work to pay their own way while a majority of these people "played" while they dropped their child off at daycare and the taxpayers footed the bill.

Old timers and clear-thinkers in the GOP were, and remain, stunned by McCain's choice. At a time when the economy is heading for the kind of trouble not seen in nearly a century, and the world order is coming apart at the seams, McCain picked a No. 2 whose only serious executive experience is her one year as governor of Alaska.
I almost feel sorry for Sarah Palin. I say almost because she could have said "no." but instead leap at the opportunity. Can you imagine what this poor woman is going to go through in the next 60 days.
- She has an infant, special needs child, plus four more kids at home. Make your own judgments about that, and I admit, if it were Palin's husband instead of her, no one would be asking this question. But I don't know any mothers who would return to work three days after giving birth to a severely handicapped baby. (http://www.aafp.org/afp/990115ap/381.html)The fact that Palin did exactly that will speak volumes to all those home-schooling evangelical moms McCain figured would applaud this choice. The right's "family values"theme seems at odds with such behavior. Fair? Unfair? Doesn't matter when it comes to the religious right.
- The office of vice president is more than a full-time job. It's more like two and half full-time jobs, which again puts in question Palin's pro-family bone fides. One handicapped infant, and four other minors at home, including an unmarried pregnant child in crisis. ... hmmmm. Instead of tending to these twin family crisis' Sarah has decided dive head first into the maelstrom of presidential politics. Hmmm. where can we find that in Family Values Handbook?
- Then comes the two months of hand to hand combat facing ahead of her. Can you imagine how many hours of each day Sahara Palin will spend being pumped full of all data she lacks for this task; which nations hate other nations, which nations are currently at one another's throats and why, and which ones are likely to be at each other's throats and why. Then come her courses on national and international finance, at a time when even seasoned economists admit they have few clues to what's wrong or how to fix what's wrong.
She's going to need all that schooling, because she will have to debate Joe Biden on national television. One misstep, one dumb answer or clueless moment and McCain is toast. Imagine the pressure on the former mayor (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/an-wasillan-on.html) of Wasilla, Alaska (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasilla,_Alaska), population around 6000.
I guess we could look at all that and have admiration for a woman who would be willing to run such a thankless and merciless gauntlet. And, under different circumstances, I would too. But John McCain is 72 years old. He's had several bouts with cancer and, while he's dodged those bullets, there's no guarantee his run of luck will last four more years.
If the worst happens that former mayor of tiny Wasilla (Sicily Alaska (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Exposure) by another name) would find herself running the most powerful nation on earth, but at a time when our power has been squandered on the wrong wars in the wrong places at the wrong times. And our economy has been gutted by fiscal policies only Charles Keating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Keating)could love.
Republicans claim that Palin has more executive experience than Barack Obama, which is true, but only if you narrow the definition of "executive experience" down to Palin's time running her local PTA and school board, her tenure of mayor of a tiny rural hamlet and her one year -- tumultuous year (http://www.abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5702697&page=1) -- as governor of a state awash in oil money. Then you have to discount entirely Obama's stellar academic record, his years in the trenches of depressed South Chicago, his remarkable rise to US Senator and his breathtaking rise as his party's nominee for president of the United States.
Republicans have done their best to beef up Palin's foreign policy resume, noting that "she's governor of the state virtually next door to Russia." Well, I live about 8 miles as the crow flies form Francis Ford Coppola's Sonoma County estate. So, if that's the new qualification standard, I ought to head straight to Hollywood, Google map in hand, and demand a movie deal.
Then there's the little matter of whether McCain's choice for VP of the United States of America even wants to be part of the United States of America:
Palin Member of Alaskan Separatist Group
Palin was a member of the Alaskan Independence party (AIP) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHFY1otOWjQ)before becoming an elected Republican official, and recorded a video message for the AIP convention this year. The party's chief goal is securing Alaska a vote on seceding from the US, a goal that AIP leaders believe the state was denied before it became part of the US almost 50 years ago.
Yet it is the AIP's motto, "Alaska First, Alaska Always", that may cause the most trouble for McCain. The Republican's campaign slogan this year is "Country First".
At the convention where Palin's video was played, the AIP vice-chairman, George Clark, told the audience that she was an AIP member before getting her first political post as mayor of the small town of Wasilla, Alaska.
"But you get along to go along — she eventually joined the Republican party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won't go into that," Clark said. "She also had about an 80% approval rating, and is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership."
Palin suggested in a July interview with CNBC news that she would insist on making Alaskan issues a high priority before agreeing to serve as a vice-presidential candidate. "We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans, and for the things we're trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the US, before I can even start addressing that question," she said. [Full (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/sep/02/uselections2008.republicans20085)]
Now, having said all that, I am not about to predict that McCain is going to lose in November because of his choice of a laughably unqualified running mate. After all, in a similar attempt to appear "with it" George H. Bush picked Dan Quayle -- a man who makes sonny boy, George W. Bush, look and sound like a Rhodes Scholar -- and he still won the presidency.
Because we are still a nation of halves; half of us are interested in being at the point of the spear, pushing the social envelope into the 21st century, continuing mankind's always difficult march towards an more and more inclusive, humane and caring social order.
And the other half -- who want to circle the wagons against change, just like their religious counterparts in the Muslim world. Despite all the obvious reasons she's not in the least bit qualified to be America's co-pilot (or, god forbid, pilot) Sarah Palin is precisely their kind of candidate.

When did I say they did? You're getting delusional  you crazy old bastard.
Indicators of a delusion
(Munro, 1999)
-The patient expresses an idea or belief with unusual persistence or force.
-An attempt to contradict the belief is likely to arouse an inappropriately strong emotional reaction, often with irritability and hostility.
-The patient is emotionally over-invested in the idea and it overwhelms other elements of his psyche.
-The delusion, if acted out, often leads to behaviors which are abnormal and/or out of character, although perhaps understandable in the light of the delusional beliefs.

Roads, schools are something everybody uses and we take in more than enough money to pay for those. We spend less than a percent of our GDP on roads in this country. Further more-Roads ARE A STATE AND LOCAL MATTER not gnerally the federal governemnt. We spend 40 percent of our GDP on other social programs. The BBC reported startling economic equality figures in a recent documentary: the top 200 wealthiest people in the world control more wealth than the bottom 4 billion. But what is more striking to many is a close look at the economic inequality in the homeland of the "American Dream." The United States is the most economically stratified society in the western world. As THE WALL STREET JOURNAL reported, a recent study found that the top .01% or 14,000 American families hold 22.2% of wealth — the bottom 90%, or over 133 million families, just 4% of the nation's wealth. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/06132008/profile2.html
Fortunately for us, McCain intends to make Bush's tax cuts permanent.
Altogether now... !Booya!

The majority of our money is spent on the military. Blaming social programs is a crock. How much money has been blown/stolen on Iraq? Why aren't you up in arms over your/my money being pissed away in such a fashion? I assume you are all for the war but you don't want to pay for it.
I didn't blame any social programs, but I am about to. We spend roughly the same amount on defense spending as we do on Medicare. Add in social security and we spend over 50 percent of our GDP on these two programs alone. Plus other governemnt overhead in managing these ill solutions. We spend 5 percent of our GDP on Iraq. We spend less than 1 percent on roads and infrastructure in this Country. China? They spend 8 percent on infrastructure. So again...everyone...take the we are blowing all our money in Iraq and stick it where the sun doesn't shine. The real boat anchors in this country and SS and Medicare.
But lets be real: the far left have convinced certain groups in this country that they cannot take care of themselves, that they need to be dependant on the governemnt to take care of them, and everybody wants to live forever. We do need SS, Defense spending, Medicare, we need roads and we need schools. What we don't need are socail programs that only certain Americans have access to. It's either available to everyone or no one, because in the end it's all of our money.

What if they are capable of working, provide proof that they are actively pursuing work, but are unable to find a job? There were many people in this situation after the furniture plant closed in my hometown a few years back.
Well, if they are actively pursuing a job, then they are not sitting on their lazy ass watching ricky lake. Do you get it?

And I respect you for this. You need to vote for the candadate that is going to help your cause.
I truly don't know who I will vote for. Being military, I am afraid Obama will cut military funding thus my pay. And I have alot of respect for what McCain went through even though he had the opportunity to be released earlier. Obama is an intelligent guy. When he speaks, you really want to listen.
I'll be getting deployed to Kuwait till January so, my vote probably won't count anyway.

Palin or Obama?
I think it is close -- being a community organizer how does that make one qualified to run a country? How long did Obama serve his county on a national scene before he decided to start contructing his Greek temple?
She was a sports broadcaster just a few years ago. She has a bachelors degree in journalism...... She is nothing.
I expect more out of my leaders. You know Universities teach you great things. We should demand that are leaders are educated. She has a bachelors degree from some Jr. College somewhere, and McCain finished 894 out of 899 in his class at Annapolis. There were only 5 people that finished with lower scores than McCain.
Christ I see all the white, redneck republicans voting for the party just because they talk like the average American. GW talks like the everyday trailer park idiot and they love him. Trailer Park trash and the religious Right got GW elected, and made the whole country suffer through one of the worst 8 years periods in American History.
I blame this whole thing on Bush. I can't believe all you stupid ****ing idiots voted for Bush.
It's all your fault. Not only did you vote for Bush once but you voted for him twice!!!! Let's face it your judgement stinks. Now I don 't think you did that on purpose but lets face it you people are too incompetent to vote. BUSH SUCKS!!!!!!
We can't take your vote away but please when you get into the booth if you want to help the country which ever candidate you were going to vote for....... vote for the other guy!!!! I promise you it will be the best thing for the country.

Palin, freaking hands down. And, short of the very liberal in the country, and even some of them, they all know that. This is why, Palin is such a threat to Obama, he not only has to worry about the fact that she is his equal wrt getting through to people, she trumps him at every turn on experience, let alone McCain has a solid record, Obama has the "present" button cloud hanging over his head. This will hurt him, the american people will eventually come to this conclusion..dman

Obama wants to reduce spending on military R&D where we're spending billions a year on potential future tech when we're already grossly cutting edge. We could easily pare it down some and still stay on the cutting edge.
As for individuals in the military, Obama wants to increase your medical benefits during and after service and he wants to significantly increase the funding you can receive for college or other post-service benefits.
People in the military have nothing to fear about Obama, unless they're a high ranking official suckling off gross amounts of discretionary funding that they can spirit away to personal pet projects.
