Three times in recent years, McCain's catalogs of "objectionable" spending have included earmarks for this small Alaska town, requested by its mayor at the time -- Sarah Palin.

Wasilla had received few if any earmarks before Palin became mayor. She actively sought federal funds -- a campaign that began to pay off only after she hired a lobbyist with close ties to Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), who long controlled federal spending as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He made funneling money to Alaska his hallmark.

IMO the only real conspiracy here is that they blew through the vetting process probably assuming that any "secrets" would of come out in her quest for governor. Then they added to that by rushing her and her family in front of the cameras without giveing the press any real history on this woman.

Letting the press freely dig through someones past without the ability to control the story is suicide.

Take her daughter for example... Imagine that friday night they lined up a one on one with Talking Head A. During that interview the waxed poetically about her stances explained away her being on the "pork list" and then explained her abortion stance punctuating it with the anouncement of her daughter. Now they are in the driver seat on every issue.

But they did none of that and now they get to play defense as long as these stories keep breaking.

They went to things that McCain himself deemed were "objectionable" - his lists were designed to point out the non-essential wastes, not just all "pork".
