"A big storm like this raises bipartisan concerns and I think for John to want to find out what's going on is fine."

"The thing that I always am concerned about in the middle of a storm is whether we're drawing resources away from folks on the ground because the Secret Service and various security requirements, sometimes it pulls police, fire and other departments away from concentrating on the job."

"I'm assuming that where he went that wasn't an issue. Were going to try to stay clear of the area until things have settled down and then we'll probably try to figure out how we can be as helpful as possible."

Since Katrina...

Senator Obama visited New Orleans FIVE times since the Hurricane hit in 2005. McCain visited twice.

When Obama went in July of 2006, he even participated in painting a house.

In fairness to McClone, you have to be able to raise your arms above your head to paint a house. ;) :D

LOL

When he was a younger man...like back in the 1930's... McCain probably hand painted 75% of his wife's inherited houses.

you missed the point. of course its a photo op. Obama is a Politician just as McCain is...

however..

Obama's quote, in my original post defines leadership. He's basically saying, I am gonna stay away until sh!t has settled down, so the local police and agencies can do their good work, instead of having to worry about securing a presidential candidate via motorcade or whatever...McCain and Palin are going down there now to do what, exactly?

I posted the picture of him painting a house cause it also displays his willingness to actually roll up his sleeves and get to work, instead of just posing for pictures... I could post another of him filling sandbags in Iowa.

And know how many houses you have.

(how much paint, brushes, rollers, etc, to buy)

McCain has been pretty harsh on the bush admin over the handling of Katrina.

and about that obama photo op; Ive been involved in building houses for the unfortunate and one time a limo rolled up and out popped a current senator that was going to be running for re election the coming year. He hastily made his way over to our project and grabbed a hammer and just started banging the wall with it, all the while cameras were going off left and right. Then he began busting up a ladder (that someone was already using, but he brushed them aside) so he could get a glorious picture from the roof.

After those photo ops he raced back to the limo and left in a cloud of dust without even a word.

good believable story, but, well damnit, who was it? Durbin? Biden? Obama? Feinstein? Boxer? Spectre? Graham?

Saying Obama putting a couple strokes of blue paint on a house shows he is entitled to the presidency? How about painter first?

Then John can't lift his arms above his head, yea that is the bummer about ejection seats and being the guest of the North Vietnamese for 5+ years in the Hanoi Hilton.
So we are comparing that Obama has put a couple brush strokes on a house versus McCain's military service where he was wounded and tortured and can not paint?

John McCain looking to do the photo op of all photo ops down south. Talk about politicizing(sp) a tragic event.

And with that the very valid argument of arm strength comes to mind.

Cry me a river. I know many Vietnam vets, and befriended several who had also been POW's.The difference between them and McCain is that I would trust them.

A lot of vets say that about him. I appreciate what he went through for his Country and it had to be horrible but it doesn't make me want to vote for him for President.
