Basically, a thread about the Chiefs skipping the National Anthem because of a delay in the final preseason game. Don't know if it really happened, but some of the other comments caught my eye.

For instance, someone saying "Why do we need to take our hats off" and why does it need to be played.
I'm sorry, but that is our damn National Anthem and it is supposed to represent how hard people worked so we can play and see these sporting events.
Show some respect for our country.

I am not really even sure what to think after reading that garbage.

Good. I never understood the point for playing the national anthem before a sporting event. Why don't they play the national anthem before I'm checking out at the grocery store...or before I play my round of golf.....or before I work out. I don't see what it has to do with sports. But I'm going to get jumped on from you all for being "unpatriotic"

And that is exactly what you are. Maybe a sobering dose of reality and a new found appreciationg are in order.

Don't go knocking the state of Kansas...Bash away at Chef fans, but don't bring the state into it.

The royals suffer from the fact that Kansas City, MISSOURI is the red-headed step child of MO. Both the Chiefs and the Royals are in MO and I don't claim anything from that state.

True story. Denver at KC in 2005. I went with my brother in law and his uncle who live in Overland Park. It was freezing cold so I didn't have any Bronco gear on except a Bronco stocking cap.

The game ended and we were sitting around our car waiting for traffic to clear out. A druken, mulleted Chef fan, wearing bright orange hunting overalls covered in puke, stopped when he saw our CO license plate. He jumped on our car and screamed something like "Donkeys Suck."

My brother in law said something that I don't recall, while I said "how original" meaning his lame trash talk was just that, lame. He glared at us, and stumbled over to cause trouble. He was probably about 6-2. I'm 5-8 while my brother in law is probably 6-4. Obviously the guy decided to pick a fight with me as opposed to taking on someone his own size.

I didn't back away in fear, rather I stepped back to avoid the stench of puke. I may be on the short side but I'm very capable of defending myself. Besides, he was so wasted he probably saw three of me. The mullet pointed his finger in my face and babbled again, I stood my ground and laughed at him.

By now a nice sized crowd began to assemble. It ended up being a non-event. Meanwhile, the other KC fans started to give the guy a hard time, and were obviously embarrassed to see one of their own acting like such a jackass. The guys who were parked next to us shared a couple of beers and we hung out. I was surprised though because for a minute I thought a full on brawl was going to break out.

I guess the moral of the story is there are idiot fans/people wherever you go. I'm sure there are many KC fans that are embarrassed by this lack of respect for our flag and anthem.

I am not going to bash their right to their opinons. I think they are wrong, but that's America.

What I would consider is a change in the National Anthem to "America the Beautiful". When it is sung during the seventh inning stretch, it is awesome. It is also "singable", if you know what I mean, and there are no questions in the lyrics. Moreover, it has a prayer in it, and represents the crowning glory of the spirit of this country.

An anthem before the games? Yeah, but not the "Star Spangled Banner". Go for "America the Beautiful".....

Second of all, you will hardly find a more loyal people to this country than you will in Kansas. These are, for the most part, farming people who hate the government but love this country. You know, a GOOD American.

I like the anthem, even though it is just a poem set to the tune of a british drinking song..kind of bizarre when you think about it considering it was written about the war with Great Britain in 1812...

but, nonetheless, I pretend it is about the revolutionary war and written by betsey Ross's brother and it gives me goosebumps and makes me proud to be an american.

guys dont take my post too serious. Just rolling with the punches. Yes, Alec, Berkeley and the other crap the San Francisco basin pours out in this state has made it a total mess. So many businesses and people yet they cater to the losers and the non citizens ie. illegal aliens. I might be in California, but I am in the lower part that is the complete opposite of those losers. Please dont take the post with any merit.

I know full well the story of Francis Scott Key and how our anthem got written. Attacking a base/fort, relentess attack, we were getting slaughtered, but even in the thick of it all, we didn't surrender, our flag was still waving in the sky. I really love hearing it, and it makes me feel proud to live in a country with what we have, and how we accomplished it.

That said, I do like Lee Greenwood's "Proud to be an American." Even though he says God Bless the USA, it still makes me feel all goosebumpy when I hear it.

btw, the anthem is important to me. Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats going to the first Rockies game after 9/11 and hearing the ENTIRE stadium chant USA-USA-USA after the national anthem and the 7th inning stretch.

i remember all those chants. It was real nice for a while when we as american's stood together....Yet another thing this administration ruined...add it to the list.

I still feel it, though, for all of my american brother's and sister's.

On a warm, sunny Saturday morning, my son and I were going down a road in the hills, heading for a favorite fishing spot. The trees were thick on both sides, and it had rained in the early morning so the scent of pine was strong. The trees were green, and were free of the beetles.

On the tape Greenwood was starting that song, and as we listened to it, the song booming out of the speakers and bouncing off the trees and all around the cab of the PU, I got goosebumps. My thoughts went to my dad who died a POW in Korea, and an uncle who died in the Battle of the Bulge. Other uncles were also in the fights, and a cousin was a POW in Germany.

My family paid a price for this country, and I was just proud to be an American. But I am saddened that the last 8 years has seen the meaning of this Country sullied by He-Whose-Name-Cannot-Be-Said (Certainly not besides true heroes, even McClain.)

That was a very nice moment for my son and I.

We caught our limit that day within two hours of settling in on the lake.....

i agree. we dont need no stinking pretty anthem like oh canada. the national anthem says to me: liberty got its ass kicked all night but was still standing in the morning wasnt it?
and yes we have the right to stand or not stand, remove our hats or not, etc. in other words, if a person cant make a simple gesture to respect all the men and women who have died to make sure you have that right, just proves you have a perfect right to be,an ungrateful prick.
