How can we allow citizens to have guns? People don't need guns... they need to lay down and take it. Its a damned shame that this 85 yr old lady put a gun to a robbers head and told him to call the cops. The lady needs to be put in prison and the young man compensated for any emotional trauma he may have suffered. Ok, sarcasm off.

POINT MARION, Pa. (Aug. 19) -- An 85-year-old woman boldly went for her gun and busted a would-be burglar inside her home, then forced him to call police while she kept him in her sights, police said. "I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun," Leda Smith said.

Smith heard someone break into her home Sunday afternoon and grabbed the .22-caliber revolver she had been keeping by her bed since a neighbor's home was burglarized a few weeks ago.

"I said 'What are you doing in my house?' He just kept saying he didn't do it," Smith said.

After the 17-year-old boy called 911, Smith kept holding the gun on him until state police arrived at her home in Springhill Township, about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.

The boy will be charged with attempted burglary and related offenses in juvenile court, Trooper Christian Lieberum said. He was not identified because of his age.

"It was exciting," Smith said. "I just hope I broke up the (burglary) ring because they have been hitting a lot of places around here."

Did she have a permit? If so then good for her.

Some lefties want every gun melted down, but the sane ones (such as Obama) respect the 2nd amendment, but just want to make sure the path to gun procurement has the right checks in place at all levels to prevent the arming of those dangerous to society.

I keep a 12Ga in the bedroom with some homemade shot and if I can't get to it I have a nice bayonet which will do some serious damage if "applied properly" to a piece of flesh. Regardless, whoever decides to venture into my home will wish they never woke up that morning. I'll take what the law has to over after the fact.

Yup, through permits, restrictions and the like they can effectively eliminate a person's right to bear arms-- thats what happened in DC when even ex cops couldnt have guns. I have not read up on Chicago's restrictions, but do know there ar a few other cities where lawsuites are possible, we will see if the Surprime court will contionue to support the second amendment.

If Obama is elected do you think he will put someone of the court who will have liberal stances on other issues, but get it right on this one?

Unless you are living in N.O. during a flood... In order to keep you safe, they take away the guns of law abiding citizens?

The probelm is people want to circumvent the Constitution. They know they can't get an amendment passed to over-write the 2nd amendment. So they try to cheat. The fact that 4 justices dissented on the 2nd amendment on the DC case is a pathetic attempt to re-write the constitution. Which the Supreme court cannot do.

Not really funny anymore, but...

"It shoots through schools."

It's amusing that he would use a picture of a person exercising their rights in a safe manner, when the problems are criminals that don't follow the laws anyway.

Although I agree that they do not have the right to legislate from the bench, if that vote had gone differently, those that broke those illegal laws in DC would be subject to the law and the punishments. Liberals tend to think that International law should be applied more frequently here in the US, and to put in judges that do not hold up the Constitution as divinely inspired, and that all laws should be held up to whether or not they are Constitutional. Evolving right and wrong is a slippery slope governed by Mobacracy.

I'm pretty sure he'll put someone from the University of Chicago law program on the bench. FYI, a UC "democrat" is far from a liberalist. There have actually been articles specifically citing the UC democratic culture as the new turning point within the party, a social progressive who is fiscally conservative, staunchly free market, and believes very heavily in civil and state rights.

Kinda like Obama.

Obama will not come out against guns until after he gets elected. Also I could see him appointing a Supreme Court justice that doesn't protect gun owners rights.

It's a fairly young Supreme Court right now. Barring a tragic event or serious illness that comes out of the blue, John Paul Stevens is the only one whose seat MAY open up during Obama's term due to age (if Obama gets elected). And Stevens is certainly not a conservative justice, so there would be no real "gain" by any Obama appt IMO.

Ginsberg is a drunk. The liver could cause complications. In fact she's gotten out of several DUI's.

you got it ass backwards it isnt about the robbers rights , it is about Smalled dicked John Wyane types opening fire and hurting innocent people , Or kids getting a hold of Guns Killing themselfs or their frienda. or some kids getting a hold of a gun and going to school and pulling a Columbine ........ I can understand you getting all giddy over this story , but these stories are few and far between , while accidental shootings are not ........
