they be hotter too. just got back about a week ago. they are also a lot more rude.

i really never really thought of americans as being friendly. but im dating a girl from norway, and had a good friend from denmark. they both said that americans are extremely friendly and down to earth. sat next to a austrailian group too who was on a 3 month vacation and they said of all the places they had been americans were the friendliest.

The Australians and New Zealanders I have met have all been extremely friendly and curteous. I agree about Europeans though - at least as bad as New Yorkers if not worse.

I would agree. I've traveled most of the world and lived in several countries.
I'd say that Americans in general are the friendliest, especially away from the N.E. coast.

and like a said ... the fear from seeing what happened made many vote for Nixon who would not have if they had not seen the images from that convention ... period ... even the left admit that it was a mistake ... well Tom Brokaw talked all about what a mistake the left made by being SO radical in the 60s ....

LOL , Brokaw should know better ...... here it was in a nut shell , we just got done with the Cuban Missile , Kennedy shot ,that threw the entire democrat party into Chaos And LBJ was had escalated the war in nam , if LBJ had not done that , he would have won the election over Nixon in a landslide , but when LBJ withdrew he basically handed the presidency to Nixon

Thx Spider ... I can be convinced if the person trying is at least civil .
and since i didn't live through it i go by what i hear and read .... I would have thought Brokaw would been a good source or this topic , and it was a good show on the Hist. chan ... many of you maybe seen it ... hey was in S.F. on the streets during the whole show ... you have to watch what you see or read , when LBJ dropped out that put Humphrey in the cat bird seat ,and back then Communism was the enemy , you had the normal mud slinging , weak on communism etc , it was a mess , te establishment was more screwed up then the hippies , but thanks to Charles Manson who was tied to the drugs , communes of the hippie ( more of a hey look at em all, they are all screwed up type of thing , then the 68 riots didnt help ) movement screwed that up , and in a round about way gave Nixon the I will restore law and order platform ........
everyone was a mess back then our country was alive in turmoil , Commies were going to attack any second , Nam war , crooked politics .......

History is in the eye of the beholder , Nixon was a punk make no mistake about that , but LBJ was a bigger punk and would have won if not for the Democrats ....If LBJ had won , we would have been ****ed ...... Nixon was the less of 2 evils clearly , and Wallace , dont even get me started on the punk, out of the entire group the right man won and he wound up getting impeached ........

Thats why e got to explain to the younger ones what really went down ......They dont understand that LBJ was despised by his fellow dems and they did more to take him down then the riots and Nixon combined....;D I mentioned JFK getting shot and the chaos it left the dem party earlier in this thread

That was the biggest conflict, IMO. RFK was strongly committed to ending our involvement in Vietnam. Of course, a huge amount of young people who were opposed to the war were inspired and excited by his campaign. When he was killed, Humphrey (who supported the war) replaced him. This created huge friction that tore the party apart. Frankly, I don't think it's ever recovered.

Nixon won because Kennedy got shot and because LBJ had escalated the war. Yes it was definitely by default. He got elected the second time because of who the Dem's put opposite him and much like 2004, because people were not paying attention to anything but the media...silent majority, etc.

This same kind of right-wing revisionist history and propaganda was critical in getting Disaster Boy get elected insofar as Dim Son was able to count on a whole new generation of redneck rubes who didn't actually live through the 60s and 70s and didn't know any better.
