There's nothing quite like Patriots week at The Mane!
The tension...the anticipation....the rivalry.......Ha!

OK, maybe not.

Funny how I haven't posted much this week yet our teams will collide on Monday night. I did, however, successfully get SoCal to display an avatar. :hooray:

There's a lot of articles in the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald about this game. Obviously, the Pats have great respect for the Broncos as well as our coaches for each other.

Just an idea of what the sentiment is here.......

Broncos a pain in neck despite all the injuries

http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2003/10/30/broncos_a_pain_in_neck_despite_all_the_injuries/

You see a defense starting rookie Jashon Sykes at strongside linebacker and cornerbacks named Lenny Walls and Kelly Herndon, and you figure Brady should have no problem lighting up the Colorado sky, right?

Yeah, right.

"They plug linebackers in there and they still lead the league in defense," Belichick said. "They don't have any problem with that. [Their] two corners, I'm sure a lot of people couldn't even name who they are. They're playing good on pass defense. They're leading the league on third down. So don't tell me about their corners. They're just the best in the league, that's all."

Belichick has expressed his respect for Broncos coach Mike Shanahan before, but yesterday spoke as if his admiration had grown, having observed Shanahan maintain consistency amid turnover.

"The key to it is Mike Shanahan," Belichick said. "When you talk about offense in the NFL, nobody has done more than he has on a consistent basis year after year. It doesn't matter who the back is, it doesn't matter who the line is, it doesn't matter who the quarterback is, they move the ball and they score points. They produce in the red area, they're good on third down, and he's done a great job year after year after year with whoever the players are . . . They've had to shuffle the deck before."

Said safety Rodney Harrison, who made annual trips to Denver as a member of AFC West rival San Diego and nearly became a Bronco last offseason because of Shanahan, "You can't go against Mike Shanahan's system thinking that because they don't have their starting quarterback or their first-string quarterback that he's off. He's going to put Kanell in position to where he has easier reads, he can just play football, and he's comfortable. We're not going in there underestimating this group at all. This is one of the most talented groups we've gone against.

"This is our sternest test to date."

I have a lot of admiration for the Patriots.

They have had a ton of injuries, but I don't hear any excuses.....

I have a feeling we could see these teams again later in the year.

Well for what its worth, I rooted for the Pats in their Superbowl and actually won some $$$ on them so, they can't be too bad.

Although, PatsWin, if ever there was a week I need them to lay down and take a beating at the hands of a team, this is it... You can afford to lose this game right? ;)

It's true. I can't really think of anything that I hate about the Pats.

I kind of hated those old helmets, but the new ones are sharp.

We don't have much of a rivalry with Boston in any area. The Nugs & Celtics are in different conferences. The Rockies & Red Sox are in different leagues. We see the Bruins maybe once a year. The colleges around here play UMass or Boston College once in a blue moon.

Then, to top it off Patswin is a class act. Which also makes it hard to get too riled up.

Ifthe Pats make it to the Super Bowl, I'll be rooting for them big time.

Can't say the same about the Chiefs, Raiders or Fins, though.

Can't fault much with this except I liked the Old Pats uni much better than the Elvis thing...whatever, I'm very much the traditionalist when it comes to uni's anyway...anyone who's gotten a blast of my disdain for the arena/cyborg look could tell you that firsthand....The Pats are odd in this uni thing because the team store at the Stadium carries just as much of the old look as they do the new (which I find admirable).

As I said, I've been to Gillette..it's a very nice Stade. I love the town of Foxboro and have some really close friends that live there, nicer people you'll never find...seeing team members around town is a usual thing, etc.

Personally, the Pats are just kinda there to me...I'm indifferent to them as a whole...I'll root for them if they're the AFC reps in the Bowl or if what they're doing is helping Denver at all...otherwise, I really don't give them that much thought.

I do believe Patswin is the example that posters supporting other teams should follow when here at the Mane....respectful, friendly, a class act like the Old one says.....too bad some of those banned bums couldn't learn from him how to conduct themselves here or otherwise they'd not only still be here but be held in high regard as well.

thanks again for helping me put cameron on my avatar PatsWin. I strongly agree with the general sentiment that the Patriots are one of the few teams we dont really have a visceral negative reaction as with the Fade, Chefs, Ratbirds, Faguars, Dol****s etc. And PatsWin certainly is one of the best members we have here at the Mane.

We all know the Broncos need this game more than the Pats do, but that's NO excuse for the Pats to lay down or let up at all. In fact, they should be relishing the chance to get even for last year's loss in Foxboro.

It's kinda hard to hate the Pats.

Many better candidates out there. The fact that they have been our Biatch for the past decade doesn't hurt either.

And yes, Walls and Herndon are playing extremely well.

Patswin is a perfect example of how opposing fans can help, not hurt a forum.

That said, I hope we bust up the Patsies on Mon. The biggest upside I see, is that they're not a dominant rushing team, which means Brady is going to have to beat us by himself ... and I don't think that's going to happen.
On the downside, I think the Pats are near the top of the league in rushing defense. So... will we be able to get Portis going this week? Who knows.
I'd sure like to see Clinton step up in a tough game like this. I know teams are stacking the line, but he's supposed to be a star. We stacked for Jamal Lewis last week and he ran all over us. Hopefully, CP will get enough carries to bust out this week.

Well, my reasoning may be odd, but here it is.

The colors were wrong. I mean, you guys were fighting the "redcoats", right? So shouldn't the uniform have been blue?

I think you've got it right, now, though I'm not sure how much silver they were sporting in those days.

The guy on the helmet just looked a little silly. Plus, he was hiking the ball. That's not exactly the most glamorous pose in sports.

And the white helmet was a little redundant in that particular division. Back then, all four teams had white helmets. It's good to see a little variety.

As far as good/bad stuff in general goes, I like a mix of the old & the new.

Good "classic" uniforms: The Blue & White LA Rams. The Gold ruined it. The Cards, (without the stupid red pants.) The Giants, The Cowboys, The Falcons (before they started wearing the stupid gray pants), The Redskins (with the Spearhead - not the nickle Indian), da' Bears, the Chiefs (aso without the stupid red pants), the Raiders, the Saints, and the Powder Blue Chargers.

Good "new" uniforms: The Pats, The Seahawks, the Broncos, The Bucs, the Eagles. Also the Vikes, who made modest but tasteful changes.

Beyond hope: The Packers, the Jets & the Bengals.

Looking Stupid: the Browns in orange pants, the current Bills unis, the Jags and the Dolphins in any version.

indifferent: Pittsburgh, the Ratbirds, the Colts, the Panthers, 49ers, Lions & anyone I forgot.

I think all of New England is questioning what the heck is goig on with the Sox......Why not totally destroy the confidence of Manny and put him on waivers, when you know that no other team can pay him. He'll come down with the "flu" about 16 times for Boston next year.

PAts are a gutsy team and Belichick is a hellava coach . But if Shanny is going to show what he can do, this is the game. We've got an extra day and a half, everybody's back is against the wall, the Pats dont need this one quite as much as we do and have been winning lately on grit and a little luck alone, and its at home on MNF.

Kanell has got to have one or two more decent football games left in him and after the shellacking he got last week, maybe he can come out and blow out the cobwebs and surpirse everyone. Afterall Plummer looked lousy in game 1 and turned it around in game 2.

If the game plan doesn't have Kanell alternating 60 yrd floaters to Lelie with Portis up the middle, I think we can pull it off.

Sykes and Spragan are going to have to have it together and be fired up.

We need at LEAST 2 turnovers that we can turn into some kind of points. And we can't have more than 2 turnovers ourselves if we expect to have a ghost of a chance.

Get the ball to Portis, Lelie and Sharpe regularly in the 7 to 20 yard zone from line of scrimmage and see what happens.

And counter the pats shifting D with a fullback to help spring Portis and give us some change up from recent weeks.

Kanell and Lelie should work every day on timing on at least 3 or 4 longer passes until then can do it in their sleep, regardless of coverage.

If he can hook up with Lelie on a couple of scripted and well rehearsed plays early, that could break the game wide open and take a ton of pressure of both Kanell and Portis and give our Defense some added motivation to stuff Brady.

Furthermore, this could be the ANTI-Raiders MNF game of last year.

We come in with a decent record, but having lost 3 out of 4 and with everyone banged up and no one giving us much of a chance ala the Raiders last year and just the opposite of our situation (except for the minor little detail that they DID still have Gannon at QB).

In any event, if we win this one I say it will set us up for a big time playoff run and we will likely come back from the Bye smoking (assuming Kanell can play well enough to beat the Chargers and Bears while Plummer fully heals.)

If we lose, we aren't totally toast, but we would have to win at least 5 of the last 7, including all of our AFC games to have a decent chance at a wild card spot.

I'm hoping for a Bronco win 28-14 on Monday with 2 of our TDs coming from any combination of INT's, fumble or special teams.

Patriots as rivals? Let's get serious. Our Broncs haven't made it out the first round since the Pats began to establish their dynasty.

Bill may be sincere in his praise for Mike. Bill comes from a defensive mindset and Shanny comes from an offensive tradition. Bill may covet Mike's offensive skills, but give me Bill's defensive strategy every time.

Bellichick's recent rings trump Shanny's more antique rings.

This is too funny looking back at what followed...

With the game on the line, however, it was Dwight Freeney who saved the day for the Indianapolis Colts. The speedy defensive end forced a fumble by sacking Brian Griese with two minutes left, and Indianapolis stopped a comeback bid by the Miami Dolphins to win 23-17.
