A Highlight:

Eddie Royal looks to be gaining more and more confidence after starting the first two games of the preseason. Royal caught virtually every ball thrown his way, including a one-on-one matchup with Champ where he shook free and ran back to a pass on a quick turnaround. The one pass he missed was a little fast and over his head, but he made up for it toward the end of the session when he ran under a long bomb that had the rest of the offense “Ooooh”ing.
One more.
Speaking of Prater, when he was practicing field goals earlier in the session by kicking through two sets of uprights, two kicks found its way directly into Andre Hall’s windshield. Hall said after practice he’s not planning on parking in the first row of spots anymore.
Ha!

Damn, about how many yards were those kicks ? He obviously has the leg but I am not sure of his accuracy just yet.

In Highschool we had a kid punt a ball into a coach's windshield by accident. He broke it...

I'm starting to absolutely love Royal. I hope he can do it when the games matter.

Ok, so not really paying much attention to FG kickers over the years (seeing as how I thought we'd have Elam until I died), does anyone know if accuracy can come with practice, supposedly like golf? Or is it you either have it or you don't? Just trying to figure out what the hope is with Prater.

Me to...but you gotta realize that our WR's are going up against the best and one of the best CB's in the league!! So it says something.

i love Prater's power but his accuracy is spotty. I am truly thinking that since he is the only kicker on the roster now, that the team is waiting for cutdown day to pick up someone else.

yep - it can be worked on. But like anything else - if you have talent - it can make up for things.

The funny thing is, that was a complaint about Elam for a while. Elam's percentages have jumped around his whole career with lows around 70% (including a superbowl year) and breaking 90% for the first time in 2006 (when he attempted only 9 kicks from 40+ yards). Prater is a newbie kicking about 75% with one essentially blocked. He's on a fine pace. The key will be how he reacts to pressure situations, Elam made his name on a big leg and making the clutch kicks.

Denver might be better off with a HORRID kicker that Shanahan has no faith in.

There's no question about Prater's leg strength. But when he kicks I find myself hope'n that the ball makes it between the post. He can kick it far, it's just I haven't seen many evenly spilt uprights from Prater.

The thing Prater needs to learn is how to adjust his timing when its a fouled snap. Thats what has caused the 2 misses. He didn't adjust properly, Elam was a master at that.

I thought this was interesting...

Matt Prater was seven for eight on field goals during practice. His first kicks were from just inside 40 yards, and he made all of his kicks up to a 53-yarder. Then he lined up for a 55-yarder that was wide left — his one miss of the practice — but Head Coach Mike Shanahan blew his whistle and the play was run again, this time with Cutler as the holder. Prater split the uprights on his second attempt from 55 yards.

I actually wondered why Jay wasn't holding on these. Jake usually did.

That would add a new dimension to things. I might actually root for a bad snap so Jay can improvise.
