Regardless what the final score ends up tonight (they're starting OT right now), the Seahawks have had a very very impressive preseason thusfar. They plastered the Peterson-less Vikings last week in Minesota, and they're completely outplaying the Bears tonight. If it hadn't been for two blocked punts and Charlie Frye's two intentional groundings and two ridiculous INTs (one a pick 6), they'd be coasting now.

Seattle has some VERY impressive rookies:
FANTASY ALERT: Justin Forsett. He's a 5'7" Joe Morris-like rookie RB from Cal, and he put on a serious show tonight. Not only did he have 140+ return yards (plus a 40+ yard return called back), he is an insanely powerful runner. He must've averaged 8+ yards on 10 or 12 carries thusfar - he's well over 100. Do NOT draft Julius Jones.
Rookie K Brandon Coutu calmly made 4/4 FGs ... amazing poise (I bet he wins it in OT). I wish he had drafted him.
Rookie FA linebacker David Hawthorne from TCU is an unreal hitter ... a Steve Atwater-like hitter who's already made the team.
Rookie FB Owen Schmitt had a great pancake block near the end zone, and after a nice 15-yard catch, his helmet popped off to show his mohawk (I laughed cause I'm so close I can hear the cheers from Qwest, I got the windows open and the TV on mute, and the crowd really cheered that Mohawk ;D). Another guy I really wanted us to draft.

Plus, Olindo Mare knocked every kickoff out of the end zone. Even former Broncos Ben Claxton and Jeb Putzier looked good.

The Seahawaks are returning all 11 starters on defense, and they probably have the best sarting LBs in the league. Don't crown the Cowboys yet.

Rex Grossman more of the same ... indecisive, uneasy, not in command. Like usual. I can't believe Lovie Smith didn't make a move in the offseason, what's with his man-crush? Guy loses a Super Bowl or Championship game for me, and I'm drafting a young stud. Kinda like ... what coach did that? hmmm... I suppose Lovie did draft Caleb Hanie - who looked okay, but nothing special. Looked like a rookie.

Looked like Desmond Clark might've tore up his knee ...

Greg Olson sure LOOKS like a badass ... but he never makes plays. Reminds me of Matt Jones (not the drug part) ...

That's it ... Brandon Coutu calmly hits from 37 for the win in OT ... 5/5.

Fantasy players: DRAFT JUSTIN FORSETT!

Caleb Hanie cries too much, but has to be better than Grossman.

Was he drinking a cup of tea with his pinkie up as he did so? That's what I keep picturing when you say he "calmly" kicked it...:welcome:

No ... not exactly (he went to Georgia after all ... :~ohyah!:)

He just looked very calm, confident and in command. Not at all like a rookie who's replacing a very excellent and very popular kicker. All 5 kicks were plenty high, and just a shade right of straight down the middle.

so this kid is running second team and julius is 1st team...I wanna grab n stash him but dont know who to drop. look at my team and tell me who to sacrifice for this kid.

QB Brees Bulger
RB Lynch, Selvin Young, Jonathan Stewart, Chester Taylor
WR Andre Johnson, Dwayne Bowe, Bernard Berrian, Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal

still have to get a kicker off the scrap heap

Minnesotas defense

Starting roster has to be 1 QB, 2 running backs, 2 wideouts, 1 wr/te flex, 1 kicker, 1 defense.

The Panthers seem like a team in disarray to me ... I dunno, is Deangelo Williams or Brandon Toefield #1 now? There's no way Stewart is any better than Forsett right now, and he does have a percieved tendency toward injury. And the only reason to keep Taylor is if you think Adrian Peterson wll get hurt ... ???

If it's me, I dump Taylor and pick up Forsett (btw, nice Bronco representin'!)

You could do a heckuva lot worse than Brandon Coutu. Or even Matt Prater ... we're gonna score a lotta points.

Minnesota is a good defense to have. Not only are they an excellent unit, but Peterson will keep them off the field running the ball

Prater may be a great fantasy kicker. We're great at moving the ball but historically have redzone trouble. So lots of field goals

Sorry, I'd never waste a spot on Forsett. I'll take Kevin Smith, or Forte ages before I'd get Forsett.

He's fantasy nothingness. Maybe in a few years he'll be something, but this year he's not going to see many carries behind Morris, Jones, and Duckett.

Don't bother. Forsett will be worthless in fantasy this year.

Dont know man, I got Stewart in the middle round with the hope of him being this years AD. Plus I have a guy who is just beggggggin me to trade him, so think Ill hold onto him for awhile.

And the only reason to keep Taylor is if you think Adrian Peterson wll get hurt ... ???

I do. Thats the only reason I got Taylor in the last round;D

Ill get someone right before the season starts. Thinking about dumping Bulger, since he will probably be dead weight for all but one game this year. Also, Young has not impressed me these first 2 games, especially between the tackles. And it looks like Hall might be our redzone guy as well.

Just out of curiosity, where did you reach for Minnesota? I'm wagering you didn't research their schedule :)

I was looking at them but theres no way I would touch them at where they are going, with their schedule.

Gunnin for a tandem the likes of Washington and NYJ to start, then I'll waiver NYJ for Oakland or Denver

There is a good chance hawks will cut coutu and keep mare and may be we should bring him in for a look. I do like Prater on KOs though.

i think we should watch waivers for Coutu, i wanted him during the draft and think Prater is not the answer. If he is going to miss 1 kick out of every 3 he attempts he isn't the guy.

Houston played well against the Saints tonight. They really have a good core. Gary is doing great building that team.
Regarding the Saints... In Week 3, Jay shouldn't focus on throwing on anyone but CB Jason David. The dude can't cover my Grandma. The bootleg will be there all day as well for Cutler.

Speaking of which....has anyone seen a bootleg from Jay this preseason? I get the feeling we have moved away from it. Not sure if that is true or not...just feels that way.

Houston was running it to perfection against the Saints.

Alex Gibbs, not Pubes...he's very fortunate- it keeps him from going nintendo.

Denver has moved away fom the bootleg because Cutler is such a good pocket passer. I also think the running game isn't as dominate as it used to be so that hurts the bootleg.

They need to bring it back though. Cutler is good outside the pocket and with his rocket arm bootlegs will give him extra time for the WRs to work their way open downfield.

I thought Cutler's 2nd TD was boot/rollout. He also had a PI call on a boot in the 2nd quarter. We have toned it down a little and unlike in the past not every big pass is based on boot. I have a feeling that when a boot is called this year, it will be more effective.

1. 1 out of every 4 you mean. He's at 75%, not 66%.

2. A 49 yarder is hardly a gimme, especially outside in the elements.

3. His percentage this preseason is better than Elam's.

4. His kickoffs are on pace to lead the league in average distance and I'm willing to bet he breaks the record for # of touchbacks this season if given the chance. People underestimate how valuable that is, especially when you have historically bad return teams.

Yeah, and its even more important when you have historically bad coverage teams. 8')

Praters miss was from 49 yards, AND he was under pressure. the Dallas Rush man broke through. I watched this in slow motion (frame by frame) and:

1. the snap was high but the holder got it down okay. It still threw the timing off a bit.

2. The Dallas LDE beat the blocker clean and came in for the block.
Prater had to try to avoid the block. If he had kicked it straight down the middle it would have been blocked because the DE was laid out in front of him . This was before Prater made contact with the ball. So he took a small hitch in his step and tried to get the kick up high..which is what caused him to hook it left.

Because of that I have to give him a pass on that miss. Without the blocker in position I think he could have nailed it, and he did a good job avoiding the blocked kick, although the result wasn't what we wanted.

His kickoffs were good, way deep in the end zone.

3. Special teams still need work, but I don't think Prater was the weak link on that play.:sunshine:

This cracked me up on NFL Network yesterday. They're all slobbering over the Cowboys. I'm sitting there thinking, "Have you ever heard of the Giants? You know, the SB champions of last year?"

You didn't see the game apparently ... and T.J. Duckett? :nono: ... he's gonna get cut. He's making way too much $$$ for a 3rd-stringer.

It was much more than just his 136 yards rushing ... you're missing (as the ESPN and NFL-Net crawls missed), Forsett's 120 returns yards, plus a 41 yard return called back by a clip. I'm telling you, he was amazing. Lundquist and Moon said that had the return stood up, it would've been the MOST AL-PURPOSE YARDS IN SEAHAWKS HISTORY. Of course it was just pre-season so it wouldn't have counted as a record, but you get the point.

The guy simply could not be stopped. An amazing performance.

BroncoBuff

Justin Forsett had 261 all-purpose yards, plus the PR called back = 302:

136 rushing
. .8 yds receiving
.70 KR
.47 PR = 261 total
.41 yd PR called back = 302 total

Most Yards Gained, Game

Even without the return called back, Forsett tied Steve Largent for 3rd most yards by a Seahawk ever ... and he didn't even play until Jones, Duckett and Morris already had 23 carries between them.
