Just a heads up to everybody... We are going to go through a server upgrade this weekend, which means that we will be experiencing some outages. I don't know when it's going to happen, except for the fact that I know that it's going to happen sometime over the weekend. It could happen at any time. Once it does happen, it may take as long as 24 hours for the domain to propagate to the new server. Because of this, some people will be posting on the old site, some people will be posting on the new site, and some people may have zero access whatsoever until the domain propagates. Bottom line, things are going to be screwey over the weekend.

This is potentially fantastic news. Will the new server be faster? Will there be avatars? Naked Bronco Cheerleaders?

That will be perfect timing! The server will essentially be down anyways at that time!
Awesome news TJ.

You can set rinetd on the old server to forward traffic on port 80 to the new server IP. It's real easy to set up. No worries about posting on different servers then. Just a suggestion...not trying to tell you what to do.

This is the third "upgrade" I can remember. Hope this one sticks.

I think it is more of a DNS propagation issue and the fact that they have 2 boxes up at same time.
Usually it only takes an hour for DNS changes to propagate for small companys. In this case as it is nation wide it will take a lot longer for the DNS changes to propagate out. I am just glad I am not like the dude that posts in England, he could be awhile.

I've never run across that setting in Plesk... Where would I look?

We've had more than three upgrades. This site started out off of some web space I had on my dial-up account back in the day. We quickly outgrew that, and moved up to a shared server. That lasted about a year and a half when we were taking up the bulk of the traffic on the shared server, and had to move to a dedicated server. We eventually outgrew it, and had to move up to another one. We have been bursting out of the seams on it for awhile now on this one.
I hope we can milk two seasons out of this server. I guess we'll see...

Well, better to get it done before the regular season starts. I can handle one weekend of intermittent outages... Especially if this means we could get avatars back (crosses fingers)

The site's growth has far exceeded anything most of us ever imagined back in '01.

Actually there's more than one of us!!
...soI think I may have to give the mane a swerve this weekend -unless someone posts or pms me the IP of the new server, which I can use untill the domain has propagated.
Overall I'm still happy though.....good work!

It's not an option of Plesk. It's a daemon that needs to be installed from shell. I assumed you have Linux installed on the new server? Not sure if they have rinetd for Windows. I could set it up quick on my box and write down a step-by-step if you'd like. Anyhow, thanks for all the work TJ!

Not yet. I'm not sure what happened, but I know that a server transfer didn't.

Ahh, I remember when you had to wait 48 hours. Now, sometimes you can get them fully propagated in about 4-6 hours.
Bottom line: Things are always screwy here ;)
