Alright Bronco fans, I think there is some really nice reports for you all today. I stayed after practice quite a while and got some nice quotes and interviews. I will share later, but let me say that we have a special OrangeMane exclusive interview that I hope everyone will appreciate!

Practice today was different from yesterday. The Cowboys certainly came to play this morning. There was a lot of good, but we didn't take it to them like yesterday. I guess the theme would be, "Today the Cowboys FIGHT back!"

I'll start with the regular notes and keep them coming as fast as I can.

Day Two started of just like day one. The QBs threw soft passes to the receivers and tight ends to get everyone a little loose. Then they started running some sharper paterns with Cutler and Ramsey alternating sides. Khan noted yesterday that Jay was improving his throws to the left side of the field. I must admit he didn't look too hot warming up this morning. He missed several throws but settled in eventually. He would end up looking pretty good, especially throwing to the left.

-Brandon had a couple drops. They weren't easy catches as Jay was leading him a little too much. At one point he was within a foot or two of me and I could hear him mumble his frustration...with himself for not making the catch. He commented after practice that he had a drop off today missing a couple balls he should have caught.

-Stokley also had a couple drops. Again, Jay was leading his receiver a little too much over the middle. Brandon probably should have caught the ball, but it would have required a diving effort on a 15 yard post.

The WRs and DBs once again went through the Jam Drill. Today, the DBs got the best of the receivers and the coaches on defense were hollering their Kudos. Watson was getting on the receivers and encouraging them to compete.

- Brandon Marshall is good beating the jam. He's strong and fairly quick. I think DBs are probably afraid to jam him b/c he's so strong in close space.

-Karl Paymah was continually praised for getting his hands on the receivers and disrupting their routes. He even got Eddie Royal today.

-Eddie Royal and Brandon Stokley are both very good shaking their man and not allowing them DB to get their hands on them.

-Dre Bly did well again with the jam and he was singing the old Jam song (Bel-Biv Devoe?) Jaaaam, Oooh Jam... It was pretty funny as he was doing it with a guy right in his face, and then he proceded to JAM him!

-They flipped sides and Foxworth did his (I assume Eddie Royal) wiggle off the line, but he over emphasized the wiggle and foot work which drew a laugh from the rest of the CBs.

Next up was the Progression Drill for Cutler. He has his full compliment of WRs, TEs, and RB. They run their routes and Cutler goes through his progressions. Some things stood out during this drill:

-Cutler is really doing a good job of looking off his target and then coming back to him. Remember McCree had mentioned him as a "looker" well, he's looking all over the field now and even pump faking to "move" the coverage away from his intended target. He gets this offense and knows where he wants to go with the ball!

-I don't think a single ball hit the ground during this drill. Cutler went all over the field. Long, short, sidelines, deep post, curls, you name it and he was getting the ball there on target! Much improvement from how he started the practice.

Denver D vs. Cowboys O

This drill did not have TEs or WRs and no CBs on defense. Coach Shanahan was watching closely as the Cowboys and Broncos duked it out.

-#29 Tashard Choice had very little running room. He tried to go up the middle and the Broncos were able to shut him down. Lots of popping going on at this point!

-On the very next play Choice found some room to go up the middle. He was able to break into our secondary which had only one safety back. This defense really scares me. Yes, we will shut a lot of runs down, but if the RB breaks through he has a one on one against a safety. McCree better be a damn good open field tackler!

-Later on there was a HB toss to the left. Jarvis couldn't disengage and get down the LOS to keep his containment. Coach Burney (I think) was going nuts on Jarvis yelling, "YOU HAVE TO BE THERE JARVIS!"

-Choice and Jordan Beck had a nice collision that would have gone for a 3 or 4 yard gain... neither gave up any ground, just a loud pop and Beck eventually let him finish his run.

-Larsen had a big lick on Keon Lattimore. He wasn't squared up and didn't get all of him, but it was enough to spark the defense up and got a yell of DeeeFENSE from his partners.

-There was a counter play that displayed Elvis' play recognition ability. He kept contain and was able to ride Barber out of bounds for a minimal gain. I could hear the coaches tell Jarvis, that's how it's done.

-Felix Jones didn't have any luck running up the middle the few times he got the ball.

-Nate Webster had a very intense practice! He blew up a run early on showing the ability to fill his gap and make the play!

-Tashard Choice ended the drill with a HB toss to the right, he was able to get to the sideline and had a nice little run on the Broncos D.

-Boss was watching from the sidelines. He was walking slowly but I didn't notice a limp either.

More coming, but I want to get this part up...

I think it depends. If it's hot and humid, reading at home is preferable. When it's 100 degrees and I'm sunburned I'd rather be at home or work drinking a soda and reading from the comfort of my chair. It's been really nice to see all the other guys doing the reports this year and it's fun to read them with everyone and see other people's responses.

Yes, I'm probably overreacting. But Moss showed zilch in the Houston game, against 3rd stringers. He still looks too skinny/weak to shed blockers, he lines up strangely, and he takes poor paths to the ball. He also seemed oddly winded/tired during Houston game.

Given what we gave up to get him, all of this is making me nervous. He absolutely has to produce this season for us to make any noise.

Broncos Special Teams

Prater was good once again missing only one attempt from about 40 yards. He has tremendous power but keeping them straight is still a question. I have faith in him.

Our Punters were amazing today! Both Kern and Paulescu had some bombs, and I mean BOMBS! I took some hang times and some catch to foot times.

-Kern was catching the ball and getting the punt off at just over 1 second (1.08 to be exact). Paulescu was nearly identical. I timed them when they were going live so they were moving pretty fast!

-Paulescu had a 50 yard punt that hung for 4.8 seconds. The next one was really high and hung in the air for 5.2 seconds. It went for about 40 yards and out of bounds on the left side of the field.

-Whoa! Bad snap sends Kern into the endzone to swat the ball out of bounds. First bad snap I've seen this camp.

-Paulescu gets a good punt of to Pacman for 50 yards. Hang time was just over 5 seconds. They were going with live coverage (no hitting) and Pacman wouldn't have got much if anything.

-Kern then booms one for 60 yards. It was a rocket that made the returner turn and run for it. He caught it right around the 5. The only bad thing, hang time was 4.6 seconds. For a 60 yard punt that's not good, he out kicked his coverage.

-Wale Dada (#31 for us) and Alan Ball had the first real skirmish. Didn't last long and it was basically Ball and his partner getting the best of Dada while he was the gunner on coverage. Couple head slaps, grabbing the face mask and a push or three..... Cooler heads always prevail right COACH!

-There were a couple poor punts as well. One only had 3.8 seconds of hang time and would have been returned. It was a 35 yard punt that was ugly, mainly due to pressure on the punter. Patrick Crayton would've had a good return on that one.

-Kern bombs one, 5 seconds, 6 seconds, 7 seconds... yeah, I forgot to stop my stopwatch, got happy watching the ball go so high and deep! ;D

-The drill ended with a 55 yard punt to Pacman. 5.25 seconds of hang time with very good coverage! I see some improvement here folks!

Denver OL vs. Dallas DL

I didn't watch too much of this drill as I caught the back end of it while heading over to field 2.

-#61 Mitch Erickson had a good practice today. During this drill I noted that he was pretty good at dropping his anchor and standing his ground. Not a bad looking player for us. PS is a distinct possibility.

-Junior Siavii caught Dylan Gandy by suprise on a stunt. Nails, who was taking the shotgun snaps in this drill would have been "Killed" or worse! Speaking of Nails, he's not moving around too good. Noticeable limp. :(

-There was an interesting pass rush where Clady was supposed to help the guard with Canty in the middle. Clady punched the DE and then moved toward Ware to block him as he was coming on the outside. Coach Dennison jumped on Clady and said to leave him alone, he's not your guy on this play. This got me to thinking that maybe when it looked like Ware beat him so cleanly yesterday he wasn't supposed to block him anyway??? Hard to say without knowing the playcall I suppose.

-I noted that Harris did an outstanding job vs Jay Ratliff. He's made a pretty steady improvement. I did see him get beat on an inside spin move. It looked like he commited to pushing his man up field and he was doing a good job of it, but then the defender was able to spin inside and beat him. It took a long time to develop though.

-All in all I noted that their DL got the best of our OL.

Denver DL vs. Dallas OL

Dang, those boys are big! Flozell did very good and our DLine didn't have much success, save for the first play. Big 63 with a strong push up the middle. It wasn't Gurode though. As for the rest of our DL, nada vs the Cowboys starting OL. They did have some success vs. the 2nd teamers.

Denver DBs vs. Cowboys WRs

-Jack MFing Williams with an INT baby!!!

-Dre Bly and Poole each beat by TO for TD's. The only TDs given up during this drill, both to TO. Dre would make up for it later in 11 on 11s!

-Dre Bly's coverage is phenomenal. Without Champ on the field he's clearly the best cover man.

11 on 11s Denver D vs. Dallas O

Yesterday I watched the Broncos O so I decided to move fields today. Not sure how it went yesterday but today we looked like evenly matched teams.

-The first play was a deep flag to TO, I noted, "Damn he IS fast". I was suprised at his speed and how he went all out. The guy practices hard no doubt about it! Product of the play... IN-COM-PLETE

-Next play was a run by Barber. He cut back to the weakside and was met by Niko for no gain. Niko did well filling his gap and not allowing much in terms of cutbacks today.

-They went back to TO on the deep flag just like the first play. Dre Bly's coverage was TIGHT! He was on his hip and with him stride for stride. The ball was overthrown (strong pass rush by # Elvis) and it would have been a pick for Dre had it been on target. EXCELLENT COVERAGE making up for the time he was beat earlier for six. Say it again, IN-COM-PLETE!

-Tony Romo drop back, stares at TO and throws... Dre Bly jumps the route and has the pick! Dude was making some plays today and I almost got myself in trouble as I let out a cheer and a fist pump! I don't get some of the rules here... Like Apa said, you want to cheer but you can't!

-Then the big fight. Flozell ripped the helmet off of Marcus' head and then tried to nail him with it. It would have caused some serious damage had he connected. I'm alright with pushing, shoving, even some blows to the head or punches... swinging helmets is a big no/go for me! Nate Webster was yelling DeeeeeeeeeeFENSE to let everyone know that they were flustering the Cowboys O!

-When play resumed Niko had another nice plug on the backside pursuit. Not much room for the cutback today which was nice!

-Brad Johnson then connected with Choice coming out of the backfield. Throw over the middle and it went for about 15 yards. Nickle D in so it was one of the LBs that didn't keep the coverage.

-Then the hit of the day... Nate Freaking Webster just destroyed a Cowboys receiver or running back. Couldn't tell which as he was burried three feet into the ground. The crack was LOUD and once again you could hear the chants of DeeeeeeFENSE! "I see you 58" was coming from the Cowboys players.

-McCree had some issues playing the deep safety spot. Coaches were jumping on him a lot and telling him he had to stay between the ball and the receiver, but then he doesn't have any help deep either. Then again, it was a redzone play so he just needs to know the situation and keep his responsibilities.

- #85 Mike Jefferson had a beautiful diving TD catch at the pylons. Dada had really good coverage and helped him up. The Broncos defense and offense could be heard yelling, "I see you eighty-five."

-From the 15 the Cowboys then had two straight TDs and a 3rd that probably would have scored as well since Barber had a full head of steam and got pushed out at the 1 or 2 but he went easy not trying to plow.

-Practice ended with the Broncos shutting down the run from the 4.

Interviews next.

People need to understand that a lot of plays are designed to get the ball to the primary receiver and QB's will sometimes see the coverage and know they are going to get open and stare at him waiting for it to happen. Does it help? Maybe not, but I have no problem with a QB staring his target down as long as it doesn't draw extra coverage to the place he throws and completes the pass. If he stares down a receiver and is 3-3 for 40 yards then obviously it's not a big deal.

I agree. I noticed (the one day I was at camp last week) that Jay would stare at Marshall or Sheff, especially in goalline situations. It seemed like this was bad, but the target ended up slipping away from the defender enough for Jay to squeeze it in there.

If the guy he is staring down still gets open, then its not a bad thing...he just sees the play develop.

You get to record a lot more data and it's nice to transcribe from w/ headphones to typed notes, at least for me anyway! Just a thought. Thanks again!
