View Full Version : What do you guys think about the Chiefs stealing your offense?

Bob's your Information Minister

If you watched KC at all the other night, you saw it. Bootlegs out the wazoo, the old Terrell Davis downhill toss, stretch plays w/cutback action.

The Chiefs are running an offense that looks a hell of a lot like Denver's. What do you think about it? Does that play in Denver's favor or is Brodie Croyle going to make your defensive ends look like a chump on the bootleg this year?

Seems like if it were really "our" offense, then we should be well prepared for it since thats all our D goes against during the preseason. Not quite as many bootlegs in the past year though since Jay took over.

Join the club. Seems like every team in the league has tried to implement our system. Atlanta, Green Bay, now you clowns.

It's not something that works overnight, unless you have Gibbs and already have the talent in place.

What a boring, ****ty team you guys are.

All the better. They'll spend three years discovering that Brodie sucks in that system too, then they'll have to start all over with some other scrub.

i will give u the fact that he has good mobility and a strong arm, but physically he is very small and kinda fragile, and with your current o-line i don't see him staying healthy year in and year out. and mentally i am not sure he has it, he just doesn't strike me as that type of QB who can rally the troops.

So i am kinda glad that they are trying to copy our system because it will take 2-3 years before it shows any rewards and by then, LJ will be used up, and Brody will be looking for a job as a backup or injured and out of the NFL and the Chiefs will be bringing in a new QB and probably having to start up using an entirely new system to accomodate that QB which will basically keep the Chiefs from contending for awhile

Brodie is a poor man's Jake Plummer. Unfortunately for them, they are even close to as good as the teams Jake had around him.

We had one of the worse defenses last year and and yet KC could only manage to score 18 points against us in 2 games. Meanwhile we put up 68 points in those same games. Nope, im not worried. RB - Larry Johnson vs. Selvin Young
Winner: If healthy, Johnson, 1-1
FB - whoever you guys are trotting out vs. Sapp/Hillis
Winner: Sapp/Hillis, 2-1 Broncos
WR1 - Dwayne Bowe vs. Brandon Marshall
Winner: Wash, 2-1-1
WR2 - Devard Darling vs. Darrell Jackson
Winner: Jackson, 3-1-1
WR3 - Will Franklin vs. Brandon Stokley
Winner: Stokley, 4-1-1
TE: Tony Gonzalez vs. Dan Graham/Scheffler
Winner: Gonzalez, 4-2-1
LT: Brandon Albert vs. Ryan Clady
Winner: Unknown, gotta play regular season games first
LG: Brian Waters vs. Ben Hamilton
Winner: Waters, 4-3-1
C: Rudy Niswanger vs. Tom Nalen
Winner: Nalen, 5-3-1
RG: Adrian Jones vs. Montrae Holland/Chris Kuper

The sarcasm is duly noted, but I wouldn't even go that far. He wasn't in long enough to "earn" anything. If that was a baseball game, he wouldn't get credit for the win. He had one good drive (the opening drive) and one horrible drive (their second offensive series).

OK Bob,
If you really look at a dangerous bootleg attack, it also has to do with the downfield mobility of the QB. Plummer was damn good at picking up 8-10 yards on foot if necessary - and could take a hit.

Brodie may get the roll out, but what he does when the D-end stays home is a whole other deal. I'm not saying he can't do it, but when he has a LB or a DE on the backside of the play, we'll see what he's got.

It will be fun to watch.

So is KFC forced to go away from the LJ Left, LJ right, LJ up middle, Punt O because he can't take another 400+ carry season?

This would be actual news if KFC had more than 3 NFL playmakers on O: LJ, TG, and that young WR who's name I cannot remember.

If KFC had a QB that has won an NFL game it might be more scary...

Arm strength means nothing when you're a crappy QB (hi2u jeff george). If Croyle can ever lead his team to the AFC Championship, you can compare him to Plummer. Until then, he's not even in the same league.

As far as Bowe vs. Marshall...Marshall is the better WR, but let's not downplay Bowe. The guy played very well on perhaps the worst offensive team in the league. It's more a testament to how good Marshall really is to say he's better than Bowe. That's not to say Bowe isn't a good player and could perhaps be special.

Because it's too hard to admit you have absolutely nothing at the most critical position in the game and no legitimate answer in the near future.

So they make stuff up and point to things like he has a strong arm to help them sleep at night but start deflecting the moment you point out his many many flaws.

KC is a trash team with a trash QB with a trash front office. As football fans, I actually feel pity for them. Their only light at the end of the tunnel is King Carl will probably be done in a season or two. Then they can spend the next 10 years rebuilding again. God it must suck to be a queef fan.

My first posting so please bear with me, but I don't think you missed anything on that one.

If he was looking for support for KC, it isn't something one is likely to find in a Broncos posting area.
Besides, he started the post so if he can't take it don't dish it.
The other thing is here are the stats for Defense from NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?archive=true&conference=null&role=OPP&offensiveStatisticCategory=null&defensiveStatisticCategory=GAME_STATS&season=2008&seasonType=PRE&tabSeq=2&qualified=true&Submit=Go)

In 2007, KC was 13th, Denver was 19th. I would hardly call that staggeringly worse then KC. And in the end 4-12 KC vs 7-9 for Denver, says something too. And in Preseason 2008, so far Denver is ranked 18th and KC 25th (though preseason is pretty meaningless really for stats). And without Jared Allen, the Chiefs may struggle, no matter who they picked up in the draft.
And really, gonna put Croyle in the same arena as Plummer? Not a great QB by any means, but for three years he had winning stats in CO and heck even gave the Cards a playoff win when he was there. And attacking his character, really? Though as an AZ alumnus, not a fan of any Sun Devil, I have heard Jake talk about Pat Tillman and he was pretty eloquent and sounded pretty human. While, flipping off fans and road rage incidents aren't exactly great PR, in general the guy didn't really have a character issue in the way I see players having issues (drugs, guns, murdering exwives, impregnating exgirlfriends and being an absentee daddy, killing dogs). He just seemed human, fallible. And as a Bronco, he just tried to do some stuff he shouldn't have (more then he was capable of perhaps, an oversimplification I know, but still). I believe Favre, Romo and I would imagine a few others have tried pushing plays they should not have.

Good first post. Just wanted to point out one item: Jake flipped off one fan,
a non-stop heckler right behind him.

I am a UA fan, too, and I hated Jake (as a football player, not a person) when
he was in college because he was so good, especially against UA. And, far as
I'm concerned, when he retired as a pro, Jake had to have cast iron cajones
to walk out still a man, after all he had been through.

Croyle as a long, long way to go before he could fill Jake's shoes, IMO.

There is this old saying that rings true here:

Brodie did remind me of Plummer last week, but there are some differences.

Plummer makes better throws on the run.

Croyle DOES have the stronger arm. Brodie can zip the ball to his receivers while Plummer could not.

Croyle makes better decisions that Plummer. Don't even argue this. So many times Plummer would make a stupid play to cost you (see left handed pass by Plummer).

Looks to me like Croyle is comfortable in KC's new offense. I could see KC's offense being legit with this system.

Oh and Bowe is just as good as Marshall. Marshall had 32 more catches

Marshall is slightly better at YAC and Bowe is slightly better at catching the ball, especially the jump balls

* Plummer was accurate when rolling out and bootlegging
* Plummer was NOT accurate standing in the pocket or throwing left handed
* Plummer has good character, just marches to a different tune then most
* Plummer was a good QB, not a franchise QB, not a Superbowl QB
* Croyle does NOT have a cannon for an arm. A broken cannon maybe.................a big maybe

* Bowe is a good young WR. Bowe is NO Brandon Marshall. Teams don't game plan around Bowe. Marshall scares DB's. Big differece. Which player would you rather have on your team? Only 32 more catches. That's like saying one QB only had 10 more TD passes. Like saying that RB only had 350 more yards. 32 catches is is a BIG difference. What planet are you on?

ONLY 32 more catches - ONLY 400 more yards - that right there is good commedy my friend. WTF ??????????

uh...32 more catches and 400 more yards= better, not the same. Or is Bowe the same as a WR that only caught 38 passes for 600 yards, because that's the same ratio of difference between Marshall and Bowe?

Dwayne Bowe played on a garbage team with crap throwing him the ball and almost put up 1,000 yards while missing the first week or so of training camp - all in his rookie year. Marshall wasn't close. Now Bowe was a first round pick out of the SEC and Marshall was a more raw fourth rounder out of Conference USA, so Bowe had some advantages in terms of learning game speed, but I don't think anyone can say Marshall is that much better than Bowe, especially when you consider the off field issues and how crappy Croyle was last season.

Yes we can. 32 more catches and 400 more yards is a huge difference. That was basically Marshall's rookie season. If you think Bowe is the same WR that Marshall is then you can see it that way but your're dead wrong, as of right now. Bowe might get better but there are a ton of great NFL minds who have said Marshall has the likes of something very special at WR. TO type of special.

The reason why teams didn't plan to stop Bowe was because we had DamINT throwing the ball (or standing in the pocket like a statue ready to get sacked) and teams didn't think KC could throw the ball. They all stacked the box to stop the run.

The Broncos had a good passing game last year and Marshall was their best receiver. Bowe was not the best receiver on his team last year. Our HOF TE was ...

He said it was too complicated and "had too many things to say in the huddle" and that this new offense "is much simpler" for them. I'm not exaggerating. Not it all makes sense: his slow development, why he couldn't beat out a back up, why other QB's looked better sooner than him.

Croyle isn't smart. So that alone will prevent him from being even a pretty good QB. He'll only succeed in simplified offenses that keep his reads basic.

Is this the interview you are referring to?
http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80a07e59

I don't think there's really a definitive answer on Croyle at this point since he hasn't been under center long enough and had a weak offensive line blocking for him. Now that he's officially the starter there will be more preasure on him to actually step up. I understand why KC picked him, at least in theory, he had a decent record in college, he was one of the Golden Arm Award nominees or whatever that is (I believe it went to USC's Leinhert that year) and KC hasn't really ever had a franchise QB and that's what they want. (Even Len Dawson started out somewhere else). And as for evaluating a football player's intellect based on his school, well, while I suspect you will get a higher quality intellect out of a Vanderbilt or Stanford QB, most football players spend very little time in classes anyway. I mean, Matt Leinhert went to USC and while it is a sports happy school, it actually has some decent educational programs, none of which seem to have helped him that much.

And did I get this correctly, a Chief fan slamming Huard? IF I am not mistaken, isn't this the guy a couple seasons back, helped save it when Green went down? He does get sacked too much, he isn't that mobile, but he's been a good back up QB.

And one other thing about your great defense. I will openly say that your defense was a lot better then it was in 2005 when I lived in KC. What is interesting, when I was there the Chiefs fans hated their defense and were calling for the defensive coordinator to quit. Their offense was getting it done even with a weaker defense. Of course they had Willie Roaf and Trent Green was a better QB in terms of passing yards. Now you have a defensive coach who helped improve the defense (though losing Jared Allen may come back to haunt, no matter how many draft picks you got) and the offensive line is weak. The win record got worse. A great defense is important, but it is fundamentally useless if you don't have a semi-decent offense. Using the NYG as an example, yes their defense was primarily what won the Superbowl (I don't know I have ever seen Tom Brady sacked that much, have to say I enjoyed it). But if Manning hadn't made plays on offense and got his team down field to score points, they would've lost.

Until Croyle gains confidence as a QB and unless the pass protection improves, KC is going to continue to struggle. Even with LJ, Bowe and TonyG, without a decent passing game, it will be a struggle. And frankly, Cutler has more on his side, a offensive minded coach, Marshall, Scheffler, etc and also he seems to really be taking to the leadership role.

I kind of hope the Chiefs get better, not better then the Broncos of course, but it would be nice to see the AFC west become a tough division to play in and against again. Really competition should improve everyone.

So Broodie throws 7 times for 38 yards and that is considered a good performance? Too bad most drives are 80-60 yards.

BTW KFCDud, Was Broodie comfortable in the pocket when he had to "throw it away"?

Brodie has looked much more comfortable in this new sytem. The offense is putting points on the board and Brodie isn't locking on Bowe like I thought he would be. He has been spreading the ball around to different receivers.

Last year Brodie would make the mistake of throwing the ball away and it being intercepted. So far Brodie has been making the easy throws and it has helped him. He's not forcing passes anywhere near as much as he has.

Oh and I see Bronco fans fail to mention that LJ had 61 yards on 14 carries with a 4.3 average.
From the talk on this board, LJ was finished...

Ramsey (Denver backup) gets better completion percentage and nearly twice as many yards as Croyle (squaws starter).

Discussion over . . .

I'm happy with KC using Denver's offense as long as they execute it like Kansas City and not like Denver.

Last I checked Denver didn't run a Rob Johnson check down and throw to the flat offense.

Brodie's longest pass was 7 yards......

It is going to take the Chiefs 11 + plays each drive to score a TD with Brodie at the helm

They stole it and have no idea how to plug it in or turn it on herm has resorted to shaking it real hard and throwing it across the the room, word is brody resembles a spider monkey trying to open a jar of peanutbutter only to throw it down in frustration.

LOL , I havent seen Brodie play yet , but he doesnt strike me as a deep ball threat , he could move the chain's at 5 yards per crack , But he has to be able to manage a game , I don think Croyle is there yet , but what else are you going to do with a QB like Croyle ?

OMG Talk about spinning!

How is putting up 9 points all on FG's putting points on the board? They get their only TD in the 4th Q.

You guys might be protecting Floatie now but when you are losing games 17-27 in regular season your going to start getting pissed.

BTW your right about LJ's 4.3 ypc being avg. At that rate it would take him 23 carries to break 100 yards. That is league avg production, not elite production.

Couple LJ's 4.3 ypc with Floatie having to throw the ball away on 3rd down to end drives and LJ will be lucky to handle the ball 20 times a game.
