LYNCH VISITS THE PATS
Posted by Mike Florio on August 13, 2008, 12:21 p.m. EDT
Safety John Lynch, whose four-year relationship with the Broncos ended mutually and amicably a couple of weeks ago, is in New England visiting the Patriots, according to Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe.

Per Reiss, the Pats made a run at Lynch in 2004, after he was cut by the Buccaneers. Lynch chose to join the Broncos.

Lynch is a nine-time Pro Bowler, but at age 36 there are concerns about how much gas he has left in the tank. Still, his presence would shore up a defensive backfield that has been depleted by free agency departures and injury. Most recently, safety/linebacker Tank Williams was placed on injured reserve.

Lynch was a member of the 2002 Buccaneers, who won Super Bowl XXXVII.

He could be a contributer there. Not a starter, of course.

Speaking of the Pats, I watched the Pats-Ravens replay the other day. Mayo looks pretty great. And where did that Crabel kid come from? Huge, fast, hard-hitting LB. Wish we had him on our team.

Maybe he can get another ring with the Patriots. I'm bummed that he didn't end his career with the Broncos, but I still hold Lynch in high regard and wish him well...

If he takes a similar role in NE as he had here, I will lose a little respect for him for bailing on his team.

I know many here disagree with that, but that is my opinion.

My take is Lynch is not the player I thought he was.. Basically he threw his contract in the trash so he could try and play for a team with better SuperBowl aspirations ? Give me a break… why doesn’t he wait till the playoffs then sign with a team that looks the strongest.

I see your point. Kinda agree with it, too.

I'm not usually good at this kind of thing (and honestly don't give it much thought), but I did call this move in a previous post. NE just seemed like the perfect place for a guy like Lynch, and my guess is that if he signs they'll use him a little like Urlacher was used in college--as a hybrid LB/S. I mean, why wouldn't you go to NE as a vet? You get the $ and the guarantee that you will be used in a role that maximizes your strengths and minimizes your weaknesses. You get to look good for a great team with a shot at a title. No brainer.

so this was about not being a starter for the Broncos. Lynch must have figured he will be a role player for a contender but not for Broncos.

Whatever I don't care he had gotten slow anyways.

Funny, I didnt post it, but I was thinking when he left our camp abruptly he would visit NE...Watch the guy have an HGH revival and play for another 3 years at a better level than at any time since 1999.
