Time to keep score of people who have crossed Shanahan and what the end result was. I'll start with my 2 favorites:

Al Davis- Fires Shanahan and refuses to pay his contract for returning to the Broncos. Shanahan wins a lawsuit, 2 Superbowls and has beaten Oakland more than 20x since.

Shanahan 2 (Two points for lawsuit victory and complete domination), Detractors 0

Ashley Lelie- Refusing to return to team to compete, because he's a #1 WR. Traded to Atlanta where after team fines played the 2006 season for roughly $0, and since has faded into obscurity.

Shanahan 3, Detractors 0

Javon Walker- Refused to take a paycut or change his poor attitude and was unceremoniously shown the door. From all accounts, struggling in Jokeland and was on the verge of retirement only 2 weeks ago.

The league's drug testing policy - pwned by Shanahan and the lie detector of justice. And an invalid test sample or something?

TheReverend
08-12-2008, 01:37 PM
Ted Sunquist- Publicly criticized certain roster moves, and defensively creating excuses for his own personnel moves, even going so far as to reference mock drafts. Since being fired, has received a league wide interest level of -10 and Broncos personnel management seemingly increasing exponentially without his involvement.

Daryl Gardener - after the infamous IHOP incident and losing his starting spot after just a few ineffective games, he decides to bash Shanny during a radio interview. He never played another down of regular season football for anyone and had to pay back a good chunk of his signing bonus.

Shanny owns Seabass and the ice-the-kicker routine.

Watching other coaches (Tomlin) try to copy him and call the TO waaaay before the kick..is like watching an art student trying to paint Picasso by numbers.

edit....this one falls under the general Raider ownage category

And the last team to win a SB from the AFC west other than Denver is the Raiders in 1983. I think KFC Won one in 1970.

Good point, but that was a looooong time ago. Since then Shanny has lost Denver the lead in AFC Titles, gave it to PITT in 2005, and NE is closing fast to take second. That's no good by my standards, maybe you have lesser standards.

I prefer the chance to win every year than face what Duh Bear or Bungles fans have to put up with.

Duh Bears have had 21 starting QB's in last 16 years, not as many coaches but Wanny the Francise killer and some dude named Dick Juron.

I would take Shanny for another 10 years than face a 2-14 or 4-12 season year in and out.

BTW I think KFC makes it into the "Modern era" by the lenght of their mullets and one year.

I have become a student of history recently, anyone want to discuss Operation Barbarosa?

Mike Shanahan vs. Shannon Sharpe: Shanny decides Sharpe has lost a step & is not worth the asking price of $8.2m for 3 years. Shannon goes to the RatBirds, where he becomes pretty much their entire offense. Shannon single handedly crushes Denver in the playoffs on the way to his 3rd ring and the HOF.

Uh, wasn't that the year Jamal ran for 2000 yards? I would hardly call Sharp the entire offense. In fact, I would say most teams stacked the line just to try and stop that running game. I love Sharp and he would have been HOF even before going to Baltimore. He played well for them and I am glad, however, I think alot of TE's could have done very well there considering that ferocious running attack opened everthing up in the secondary.

The truth is somewhere in the middle. Still, +1 Sharpe.

Jamal ran for 2,000 in 2003. They won the Super Bowl in 2000.

Shanahan vs. Belichik. Shanny is 5-2 against him including the playoffs and I believe has the best record of any active coach against that jackass. Hopefully it goes to 6-2 after this year.

You sure about that? I am pretty sure that Pittsburgh and Denver each have 6 AFC titles.

http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/results/championships

New England has 5, as does Oakland and Miami. Buffalo has 6, but 2 of those came in the pre-Superbowl era (i.e. NOT modern era).

Pittsburgh and Denver have the most of any AFC team in the modern era. In fact, Pittsburgh and Denver have more Superbowl appearances than any team except Dallas.

I stand corrected. Forgot about 1996. The Broncos should have won the AFC title that year anyway, based on the regular season. We all know how that season ended, though, and I have no desire to describe it here.
