I have been reading the horror tales posted here and I finally got to watch the game and I have to honestly say that many of you totally over reacted and I have no clue why you went maniac on some of the players.
The first thing I have to point out is that almost the entire starting secondary did not start the game. Basing the performance of the rest of the guys up front is a little hard to do without that starting unit behind them in the game. That would be like trying to rate Bly and Champ during the season when you had the 3rd string DL in the game.
Second thing is, this was the very first preseason game. There are going to be missed assignments, blown coverages, penalties, stuff like that.
Jay Cutler looked really good. Was accurate and poise. The one he overthrew in the endzone was a little to high but also that defender did catch a piece of Danie's leg. He might have been able to come down with that. It wasn't like Jay missed him by a mile.
The really good news is that it looks like Marshal if fully recovered and he is a man among boys on that field. He has the tools to become a top 5 WR in this game no doubt. He looked good.
OL looked pretty good too. Jay really wasn't pressured too much. The run blocking could have been better but the Texans did some run blitzing too. I know Harris had a few penalties (I counted 3) but he looked decent. Nothing that would make me want to axe him right now like half of you do. Clady also played well considering he was going against one bad MF.
What I also like that hasn't really been talked about much is how we used the sreen passes and the short dump offs to back more then I ever remembered. That was encouraging because I think our back really present problems for teams once they get into the flats.
Again, hard to really tell a whole lot from this game because its early preseason and most starters don't play much. But I came away with a feeling this offense is gonna be good. The defense was hitting hard and the DL didn't get pushed around. Not as much pressure as you would liked to have seen but I will reserve judgement on that until we have the likes of Bly and Champ back there making that QB hesitate just a little bit.
