Just read that Bell was cut from the Texans....other then being out of game shape and that fumble against Chicago, what did he do to get in the doghouse so quickly?

The PFT version:
TEXANS WAIVE MIKE BELL
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 8, 2008, 1:33 p.m.
Less than two years after he looked like one of the NFL’s most promising young running backs, Mike Bell might not be able to find a job.
Bell, who carried 157 times for 677 yards as a Broncos rookie in 2006, did virtually nothing in 2007, carrying six times for three yards. This year the Broncos waived him, and now, just over a week after he signed with Houston, the Texans have waived him too.
It’s not clear why Bell was let go by the Texans so quickly, although there has been talk that he was out of shape when he showed up in Houston. Texans coach Gary Kubiak hinted that conditioning was an issue after Bell’s first practice, saying, “He looked a lot faster than everyone else to begin with but then he got tired.”
Bell’s running style was well suited to the offense that Kubiak and Broncos coach Mike Shanahan run, so if he can’t make it in Denver or Houston, he may have a hard time making it anywhere.

OMG!!1!! bUT h3 h4$ teh 1337 $933D!!!!!!!ROFL!
It would appear Shanahan really didn't "ruin his career" at all. I guess he just had trouble staying conditioned and didn't have the stamina to make in the pros. Maybe he'll catch on somewhere else, but I hope he treasures his time as a Bronco.

Mike Bell as our starter was a testament to how far we had fallen from our SuperBowl years. Nice guy, good story, should have never been our starting RB.

it was my understanding that on top of all these things he complained last year about being "demoted" to FB - voiced his displeasure, rather. THEN when he got the chance as a HB he fumbled at a key moment vs. the Bears, etc etc

PFT got the story slightly off:
Texans offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage in his left knee and will be out from three to four weeks.
To replace Salaam, the Texans signed veteran free agent offensive tackle Torrin Tucker. They considered Houston native Fred Miller, who played at Baylor before moving to the NFL and playing for the Rams, Titans and Bears.
“Ephraim got up Thursday morning and felt something under his kneecap,” coach Gary Kubiak said today. “He got an MRI, and they did the scope after it. We expect him to be back for the start of the season.”
To clear a spot on the roster for Tucker, running back Mike Bell was placed on waivers.
Meanwhile, general manager Rick Smith said today that the Texans could bring back guard Charles Spencer and sign him to the practice squad. After the Texans waived Spencer in July, Carolina claimed him. The Panthers waived him Thursday, saying he was too out of shape to contribute. “The door’s still open,” Smith said. “We’ve been in contact with him. If he gets in shape, then another chapter in the Charles Spencer story could be written with our team.”
Because offensive tackle Scott Jackson (foot) and guard Fred Weary (leg) also are out, the Texans are still shorthanded in the offensive line.
Rookie Duane Brown and veteran Eric Winston are the starting tackles. Backups Rashad Butler and Brandon Frye will get a lot of playing time in Saturday’s preseason game against Denver.

I'm calling BS on that one. Nobody cuts the fastest RB on their roster just because they're out of shape during the first week in August. It's pretty easy to get back in shape in 4 weeks.....and he'd still be faster than whoever else they had. Something else is going on here.

What do ya bet Houston is gonna be all over Denver's oline cuts. If I was a guy like Pears, who might be on the bubble, I'd have Houston's number on my speed dial.

some of the guys on this board were crowning him as the next TD or something...
he was an overachiever with a good attitude(initially) inwhich lack of real talent caught up to him...

He has a tweaked hamstring and the Texans didn't have the time to wait for him to heal up. As far as his speed goes, he ran his all time fastest 40 during his tryout. As soon as I talk to him I will let you all know what's up.

When did that happen? He did well and then wasn't allowed to play the next season. And then moved to a different position. And then cut

No he not TD, he very good kid that has great feet in the hole, good body lean and nice acceleration. He needs to work on his lower body strength and and his blocking but he does have a future in the league.

I always liked him....I just really wonder what he did to get sent to Shanny's doghouse so quickly...
I never thought he would be a star. Always saw him as the 3rd back that could come in and give you a solid effort.

I agree. It's not like this is Henry. I think it's ok to be objective about someone's ability without ripping on them as a person. Mike was a good guy and loved being a Bronco. I just don't think it was in the cards for him.

I liked the fact that he always ran downhill. He got into Shanny's doghouse by being a bit resistant to playing FB and then the fumble in Chicago kind of sealed the deal. In his defense, he got effing HAMMERED on the play... but his job is to protect the ball. Good luck Michael, and see you next summer so I can school you at fishing:strong:

If Torrain goes on IR or Pittman is the suck, Bell will be back.
And we will be sub .500 again. I love pulling for the underdog but his skills don't translate to a starting NFL back even behind a good blocking corp. Just be happy he's gone and better talent is on our roster.
