OK, so maybe i'm one of the few that really enjoys watching the preseason positional battles. I like seeing the guys we wanted to draft, or talked about drafting, and watch how they are doing.
I know it is just the preaseason.
However, that's where you start seeing who has potential - or who is a potential bust.
So, this is a thread to talk about all kinds of players from any team - there are probably some you wanted to draft. Let's hear it. How are they doing?

I'll start off with one I had my eye on last year - Robert Meachem for the Saints. He showed up to TC in bad shape last year and then got injured. Last night, he got over 120 yards and a TD. He might be figuring things out.
For the Chiefs - I watch Oklahoma State football and wanted to see Savage do well. He is a burner, but a little hit and miss in his opener.
Who the hell was the little receiver for the Jets thatt got 2 70+ yard TD's? Anybody know the kid?
The reports say Jerod Mayo and Kenny Phillips had good games on defense.
Even before him being announced as the starter for tomorrow, Eddie Royal was on my list of interesting players to watch. Clady is right there also.

Oh, and I guess while we are watching rookie OT's make note that Gosder Cherilus had three penalties last night for the Lions. Although they said he did some pretty decent run blocking when he didn't false start.
And, Chris Williams for the Bears just had back surgery this week.
Branden Albert is injured.
Right now we are mainly watching Clady and Long.

That Jet's receiver is David Clowney...he played with Royal at Va. Tech! Hopefully Royal can match Clowney's performance. Clowney kid looked good!

Is he a rookie or a second year player?

CHI RB Matt Forte.
I wanted this guy for DEN soo bad!
Anyways, he only had 10 plays total, but looked good.
BALT WR/KR Yamon Figurs
Jeez, he looked good.
Kenny Phillips (http://www.nfl.com/players/kennyphillips/profile?id=PHI403361) is for real: The rookie safety from Miami (Fla.) earned praise for his play in training camp and was similarly impressive in his preseason debut. He made a series of big hits and finished with a team-leading six tackles.
Hmmm. Man, Barrett better make some plays.

Looks like a second year player.....ESPN has his experience as 1 year.

I want to see all the OT's. Is Long really struggling in pass pro? Gosder looked like butt. Is Duane Brown worth the first round pick? Does Jeff Otah look less robotic when the pads are on?

Barrett is a 7th rounder with vets in front of hinm, that will most likely see only time on ST. While Philips is a first rounder and will see time on defense since there are no veterans in front of him. To different situation and opportunities right now.

Marcus Thomas.
Is he JAG? Is he a stud? Maybe a gymnast ???
The answer will affect the play of the entire defense.

Pierre Thomas picked up where he left off last season for the Saints. Worth a late round flyer in FF.

No. Barrett will see time at SS in all the preseason games, and many here expect him to play fairly well. Many of the rookies will see time during the preseason.

Meachem didn't play with the 1st offense as far as I could tell, so he played the majority of the game against 2nd and 3rd teamers. I think the 120 yards is pretty unimpressive, a 1st rounder should shine against fringe players.

The Baltimore Sun suggests that rookie Ray Rice "might eventually end up pushing Willis McGahee out of town."
Not this year, but maybe in a season or two. By all accounts Rice has been extremely impressive in camp while McGahee has nursed little injuries. Rice may already be the better pass catcher and a better fit under John Harbaugh. Aug. 6 - 6:07 pm et

I am very curious about Stewart.
Jonathan Stewart (toe) still has not practiced in 11-on-11 drills in training camp.
The rookie says he still has discomfort in his toe, which was surgically repaired nearly five months ago. Stewart will be a game-time decision for Saturday's preseason opener, although he seems very unlikely play. It's concerning because toe injuries are unpredictable. Make sure that Stewart is practicing full speed by the end of the month. Aug. 6 - 5:27 pm et

I will be watching Josh Barrett and Rod Rogers very closely. We need depth at safety and we could end up needing a starter very soon at FS, both Barrett and Rogers would project as FS and I hope one of them will be starter material down the line, this would really help us draft next year if we do not have to spend a 1st or 2nd rounder on a safety.

If thats the case Denver should take McGahee. He was excellent for the Ravens last year.

I guess we'll get to see some Mendenhall tonight.
Also, in the same game - we will get to see MeSean Jackson for the Eagles. I want to see how he does on KR/PR.
What team is Dre Moore on?

Chris Johnson, RB Titans
Would of be doing back flips if he was available in the 2nd. Sick, sick, sick speed as a RB, Slot R, and returner.

Want to see how Cason plays for the Chuggers. He has a lot of hype and I want to see what its all about

i'm so glad to see some harris love. I remember him from last years preseason games and I was really impressed with his potential. If not for bates, he might have gotten a little more love,
but than again I thought kennedy played well too......

Mendenhall didn't quite blow me away last night. I thought he was pretty tenative with his steps. He didn't hit the hole with much power - although I think he will steadily improve.
Now, Micheal Bush for the Raiders might have me worried. That dude is a load, and he is starting to figure things out.
Also, Deseaon Jackson sure got a lot of work at receiver last night. Nothing spectacular, but nothing too bad.
Trevor Laws looked pretty good, I still wish we could have landed him somehow...

Mostly Broncos - Clady, Royal, Selvin, Barrett.
Plus I'll be keeping an eye on both McFadden and Jamarcus for the Fade.
For the Seahawks, Owen Scmitt had 2 catches for 37 yards last night ... and Jeb Putzier caught a 15-yard TD. Schmitt put a rookie Viking LB on his ass, too ...

Mendenhall's first carry was awesome.
A safety came up to put a big hit on him and the safety ended up having to come out of the game....

Tavaris jackson looked pretty good. Min has a strong oline, good running game and now have two deep threats in Rice and Berrian. I think TJ will have a good year.
Willie Parker looked sharp and seems to have recovered from his injury.

I'm excited to see a lot of the young guys on our team (Royal, Clady, etc). I am also looking forward to see how Koutouvides does and our defense in general under Slowik. I'm sure they won't show everything in the off-season but we all saw how crappy our D played last year in pre-season and it carried over to the season. Hopefully they are picking up this system quickly.

I was pimping Wesley Woodyard hard during the draft period. After watching film of him at Kentucky I knew that here was a kid who filled my top two prerequisites for a player: Loves the game enough to play for free and plays like it's the last game he'll ever get to play. When the Broncos got him undrafted I was stoked. After last night, I'm feeling vindicated. We may have another Rod Smith on our hands. Hoping.
