Anyone watching anything? I'm watching the Saints and Cardinals and have the Chiefs game on the computer. Apparently the "super accurate" Croyle is 2/6.

Kaylore
08-07-2008, 07:28 PM
Croyle is 3/7 but all his completions have been third down conversions, so it could be worse. Oh it is. It's only preseason. ROFL!

Kaylore

The Saints marched down the field and scored. Brees looks good.

Not too bad for the Chiefs, either. Croyle made some completions on third down and they scored on the Bears in their first drive. I'll need to watch the game to see what he looks like.

Chiefs convert 5 3rd downs, take 8:30 off the clock and score a TD on the 1st drive of the game.

Snap Kaylore. Watching Saints on TV and Chiefs on laptop, although I'm flicking between all the other games as soon as the redzone is indicated on NFL.com. Croyle looked pretty decent.

You brought up the Chiefs defensive ranking from last year in a discussion about the current game. The past is irrelevant to that discussion.

broncosteven

No, they are one year removed from the Super Bowl.

Hester is the ONLY WEPON they have.

They let their starting WR go to Minn, in fact their WR position is sooooooo thin they had to sign Marty Booker so they had someone to help Hester line up on right side of field.

Now lets talk about their RB's: Thomas Jones has been gone a full year and they cut Buston. Their starting RB is Forte who may be good in time but they are concerned here about his fumbling like every 60 carry's or something....

They have a worse O line than KFC, their 1st round pick Williams is out indiffently for bad disc's in his back and will need surgery. He was going to be their starting LT this year. Saint Clair was a turnstyle last year and they are relying on him now.

Tommie Harris is the only star left on the D, he is the only player worth a damn on the D line they have no other Tackles to protect him and they have not gotten any decent play from DE's. Urlicker has back issues, Briggs got his payday, they have no Safety depth, CB's are average.

Enjoy Brody's win.

Feeling good about the performance especially considering the absence of Dorsey and even more so Albert. Taylor showed he has some more work to do but is a serviceable back up at tackle. So I finally watched the Chiefs game. Let me just say that Croyle isn't even the best QB on his team. He was clearly outplayed by Damon Huard. I thought looking at his third down stats that maybe he had a good night. Nope. He made several off-throws. I mean really horribly off. He was falling away on one and threw into triple coverage. All of his completions were to dump offs and were easy throws where they converted on YAC. I think I saw one throw that looked good. He was very skittish and looks completely uncomfortable behind center. Then Huard comes in and just marches down the field flinging the thing all over the place with accuracy. It was actually kind of unnerving. Anyway Croyle looked like crap and that's all you guts need to know.

Larry Johnson started off running kind of timid. He got better as he went on but you could tell he's adjusted his style to one where he tries to avoid getting hit rather than running through people.

They had a receiver that looked really good not named Bowe. Maurice Price? He looked really good. He runs really smooth and had soft hands.

They were flagged for holding several times and were getting beat up front, but it's the Bears D, so they get a pass I guess. I still think their O-line is going to suck.

Where they don't is their rush is officially crap. The only time they had decent pressure was up the middle. Tank Johnson looks a lot better than last year, but obviously DT's take a year to settle in so this is hardly a surprise.

Anyway it's on right now if you guys want to watch.

Which game were you watching? Croyle looked surprisingly good in their first drive, throwing well on the run and hitting a terriffic 20+ yard pass to their rookie WR on a 3rd and long play. There was also a 3rd down where he threw a really nice pass to Bowe that went for about 10 yards on 3rd and short.

He threw a few incompletions, but I'd have no idea if that was on him or the WR, or if he was just throwing the ball away. Overall, he looked solid against a good defense. Your claim that he only threw "dumpoffs" and looked skittish couldn't possibly be more wrong.

But even more laughable is your assessment of Huard. He came in, got his passes batted down, and took the most ridiculous sack I've seen in years. He looked good in their 2 minute drill at the end of the half, which was his 3rd or 4th drive with the offense. But to say he "clearly outplayed" Croyle is insanity.

Try taking the homer goggles off.

You clearly watched a different game. That nice pass on 3rd and short was quick toss to the receiver. There was nothing impressive about it. Same with the roll out to Cottam - it was like a five yard throw. Same with that dump off to Charles who was standing upfield seven yards with no one around him. That wasn't impressive. It wasn't even a hard throw. There was a throw that Bowe tried to pick up that was horribly behind and low and in a game situation when the corner has inside coverage it's a pick.

He was fortunate to be 6/10 - and entering his third year in the system he should be better in preseason. That crap like his falling away and flinging into triple coverage is ridiculous.

And Huard almost played perfectly. He completed like 80% of his passes and scored a TD on a perfect fade throw that was called back and he just threw another TD right after. He looked way better than Croyle did.

That's his job Kaylore. Take what the defense gives you. I saw a comfortable QB who made some good throws. How can you say he looked like crap? 6/10 with 82 passing yards and an opening drive TD playing 2 series is not crap. You clearly have bias in your assessment man. Croyle did make some bad throws, but his receivers helped him.

And the WR you are thinking of is our 4th round draft pick from MU, Will Franklin

And I would hope Huard would look better than Croyle as he was playing the Bears scrubs.

My god you are a freaking homer. Then again, you have NEVER said anything good about Croyle, at least from what I have seen.

The facts are that he was 6/10 with 82 passing yards and an opening drive TD while only playing 2 series against an above average defense.

Definitely did not see him turn in a horrible 1st preseason game. Dump off passes means he's more than likely checking down and giving what the Defense gives him and if you listened to the Bears broadcast, it was noted that the Chiefs were running some of those "dump-offs" because they were making the Bears pay for being overly aggressive on the strongside and exploiting their pursuit on the backside.... but those aren't my words, just the Bears' broadcast.

I can understand why Chiefs fans are absolutely giddy over Croyle's performance last night. It is the first time he has not absolutely sucked in a preseason game. His QB rating of 86.2 last night is a full 15 points higher than it has ever been in the preseason, and it rated 19th out of 36 QB ratings for the preseason. That is a close to the top half of the league stats as he has ever been, although it would only rank him 4th in the game last night, behind Huard, Grossman, and Caleb Hanie. It is also the first time he has thrown the ball in a winning effort since the 2006 preseason, a span of 15 games for him. Congrats to Brodie, Canton is waiting.

Wrong once again. Damon Huard is the highest rated QB in the AFC West, and his rating (144.3) looks like a good two game total for Croyle. Once again, Chief fans are oblivious to the fact that Huard is the QB that gives them the best chance to win, which is a sad testament to the job that Peterson does as GM. It's Young completely sucking it up, Raiders are getting some decent pressure but the under and over throws by Young are terrible and he had a shot for a long TD pass but lofted it up there so high and soft that it gave the Raiders all the time in the world to react and recover and almost ended up a pick instead of a TD.

I was watching those highlights and its just amazing the arm strength Brett still has at that age. He still has one of the top 3 arms in the league at age 39 (Cutler, Russell, and Brett).

Captain Croyle managed to barely get over 50% of passes completed for 36 yards and the first team offense put up 3 points...at home...against the mighty Arizona Cardinals! Yay for him! Hilarious!

Wow, Faiders look awefull.

Jamarcus throws a pick, Arizona gets 3 on the board. We miss a chip shot (OK - it wasn't Kowski). We hold Leinart to 26 yards passing & 3 picks, Jamarcus throws for 140.... & we get zip.

Then the Arizona scrubs unload on our scrubs 21 to zip. I'm not encouraged by all that.... its almost as if we still suck....

Leinart is not a good fit for this Wisenhunt offense, which calls for a lot of deep throws. his skill set would be more effective in a pure West Coast scheme where he doesnt have to throw the ball more than 20 yards. he wasnt bad in his rookie year w/ Denny Green in the West Coast, where he was throwing slants to Boldin and Larry F. and they were catching and then breaking like 3-4 tackles and gaining a bunch of YAC.

SD looks pretty strong on the OL. Jaws is slobbering all over Rivers, saying watch him plant that back leg, oh yeah, baby, he plants and swivels, oh yeah. Then the stats come up where Rivers has a hard time passing outside the numbers, even without a plant leg still recovering from ACL surgery. SD is not a particularly good passing team, Gates and LT pretty much has saved them in that regard for the past few years. SD went 11-5 last year with a +24 TO ratio. They're gonna need that +24 again to win the Div, but +24's don't happen too often. In fact, looking at NFL.com stats, since 2002 only Denver and Cincy in '05 were +20 or better and SD last year.
