Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that veteran quarterback Chad Pennington is expected to be cut in order to create salary cap space for the arrival of Brett Favre.

Pennginton’s release would instantly free up $6 million in 2008 cap room.

I can see him backing up Croyle in KC.

Chiefs?

Other?

It's still early in camp, I wonder if Croyle really has that job locked up. Wasn't Herm running the show when Chad was brought in? He did well those first few years. I've also heard they're less than satisfied with Croyle going all the way back to last year.

If he's going to not demand 6 million or a starting position, I'd say let's get Pennington. I'd feel a lot more comfortable at our weakest position, (overall) quarterback, with Pennington in there.

Though if he's released, he'll have his pick of the liter and ironically, will probably end up in a better QB situation than Brett Favre, meaning with a better team.

He doesn't really fit with our new penchant for going downfield ... all of our QB's have one thing in common...a strong arm. Pennington makes Griese look like Elway when it comes to arm strength

It seems to me that Pennington would be the last guy to demand a high salary--he restructured his contract several times to accomodate the Jets.

He's perfect for the Vikings. A reliable, low-risk(Outside of Injury) back-up who could mentor Tavaris on the mental aspects of the game who has very little leverage to get a long-term/big money deal out of them.

i don't know about that. if the Vikes bring in a new QB i would think it would be someone with upside that could lead the team better than Jackson, not a weak armed fragile guy
Pennington will probably end up in KC

I can see him reuniting with Herm which would be great for Champ and Bly eventhough Brody is worse Pennington can only throw 2 yd screen passes.

I agree I think Minn would be his best fit. Plays in a dome so he doesn't have the wind factor on his throws, plus he'd have a good defense to back him up and keep the scores low and close.

I'd take Pennington as a backup.

My guess is someone like the Vikings or Chiefs will give him a shot to start.

Chad would be a great fit for the Broncos if he is willing to concede the starting spot. He is a class guy, team first, blah blah. Yeah, he doesn't have a great throwing arm, but he is extremely smart and will be successful wherever he goes.

Pennington would be a great backup QB. He has limited arm strength and is injury prone but he is smart, accuarate and would be perfect in a sort stint for an injured starter.

0% chance that he signs anywhere as a backup. Worst case scenario is he signs somewhere with an open competition for the starting job, like Minnesota, but he still thinks he's a starter, whether he actually is or not.

See, if I was Gruden I´d sign Pennington quite simply because I have always wanted to know whether Pennington´s arm is worse than Griese´s.

Yep. thats what I was thinking... Garcia doesn't have much of an arm either, but you don't need much of one in Chuckie's system. (also see Rich Gannon)

chad pennigton has a weak arm and is not mobile. please explain why he would be a good fit in the current broncos offense?

With Brett Favre now a New York Jet, Chad Pennington is now available to the man who drafted him in 2000.

Bill Parcells and the Dolphins haven’t wasted any time reaching out to Pennington’s agent, Tom Condon, an NFL source said.

This could be interesting!

Per that same source, Pennington has the Chiefs at the top of the list of teams that he’d like to play for in 2008

Noooooo
They really like to throw down the field and CP doesn't have the arm to make that offense work.

I wouldn't do that. If we needed to use a backup for an extended time, we'd be much better off with Ramsey.

Jay Glazer was just on wfan here in NY and said Miami, Buffalo, Carolina, and New England are interested in him.

Miami is the most interested and New England would be a back up so he probably won't go there. When Minn was brought up Glazer said they are happy with Tavaris Jackson because all he will be doing is handing off to Peterson and Chester Taylor so they don't need a high priced guy in there to do that.

Well, they might need a QB to make a play here and there. Jackson hasn't shown he can do that. Pennington, for all his physical limitations, does a pretty good job of making plays off of play-action, which makes him (in my mind) a good fit for Minny with their RBs.
