REPORT: FAVRE IS A JET
Posted by Mike Florio on August 6, 2008, 11:40 p.m. UTC
Finally, it’s over.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets have reached agreement on a trade for quarterback Brett Favre.

More to come.

FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports that the Packers have traded Brett Favre to the Jets.

This might finally be over. The compensation isn't known, but it's believed to be a single draft pick that increases in value depending on Favre's success in New York. He should immediately step in as a starter, and the team will likely have to release Chad Pennington to make space under the salary cap.

Wow Favre a jet... Almost Joe Namth in reverse.

I wouldn't mind seeing Chad as Jay's backup here in Denver.

PFT was saying earlier in the day that Jay Glazer said the Jets were offering a substantial package and then Peter King supposedly said it's a 3rd rounder that could go as high as a 1st. That sounds like the Jets really want a QB this year because there's no way to guarantee that Favre plays more than another year or two. Just more of the Jets spending spree that has come about this year, they definitely NEED to win for some reason. Mangini feeling a little heat on his tush?

PERFECT! The media whore goes to a place where he'll have reporters
following him around trying to measure how long that turd he just let go of is , and whether he's getting enough fibre in his diet.

They'll be pumping sunshine up his butt with glee until he throws a pick that loses a game or two , then turn on him with a vengeance. Fans too.

There couldn't be a better place for him! And next year he'll pull the same crap if they let him.

ha! Why even include such language? If the Jets go to the SB, they owe GB their entire draft. It's not happening though...

It would, however, be funny to see GB and the Jets in the SB now. Talk about a man possessed for that game... Favre would play like he hasn't in 10 years.

How so? Pennington has a wet noodle for an arm. He had a good couple of seasons, but his various arm and shoulder injuries have left him as nothing more than ideal backup material at this point.

08-07-2008, 08:02 AM
I'm not sure what team would want to pick up Pennington as a backup and pay him $6m to ride the pine.

However, that being said, I can see the 49ers giving him a looksee to compete with Alex Smith for the starting QB position. Penn doesn't have a cannon arm but he is accurate and smart, he could do some things in San Fran if, if he can stay healthy.

They won't have to once he clears waivers. At that point, his previous contract will be null and void. That said, I think he gets a chance to start somewhere.

I think Minnesota will give him a strong look since he would probably be an improvement over Jackson. KC would probably be a contender too with his ties to Herm and the fact that it still isn't known if Croyle can play or not.

I'm not sure the Vikes make sense. I don't think their offense is set up to maximize Pennington's strengths, which is accuracy. I think one complaint about TJack is that he doesn't stretch the field (I could be wrong about that) and the Vikes wanted a guy like Favre to launch the ball alittle more. I just think the 49ers offense is a better fit, but I could be wrong, however, I don't think ASmith has a cannon arm either.

Anyhow, Penn will find a job, he's not that old and when healthy he has proven to be a productive QB.

Favre needed to bombs (and one on overtime) to beat an extremely poor Denver D and with CB that were constantly peeking in the backfield to know if they had to cover the a$$es of the LB and DL against the run. This is better team than last yr, and the Jets are far inferior to the Packers. I hope Chad gets traded to KC (I actually think their present mediocre QB is better than the joke of a QB Chad has become), then we have 3 very winnable games and KC stays a doormat for at least another couple of yrs.

I think this makes the Jets a wildcard contender.....

Thomas Jones was 8th in 100 yard games last year (when you add rushing and recieving)...they also have leon washington to provide a change of pace...

they picked up "foneco" and the other monster lineman whos name escapes me at the moment...and their main problem last year was consistent QB play

the defense will be better off this year because they have a year under their belt running the 3-4 and undersized Vilma is out of hte system..Revus is going to be a CHamp-esque player in the near and Kerry Rhodes is still back there

dare i say the Jets are better than the Broncos??

EA Promises Updated Favre for Madden '09
By Earnest Cavalli August 07, 2008 | 4:41:37 PMCategories: Console Games
Reacting to Thursday's news that famed Packers QB Brett Favre would be returning to the NFL with the New York Jets next season, Electronic Arts has promised imminent updates to Madden '09, a game that features Favre in a Packers jersey on the cover.

EA plans to offer a downloadable cover insert depicting Favre in Jets regalia via the official Madden website. Completionist fans are urged to print off a copy and replace the retail art as they see fit.

In-game, Favre is a member of the All Time Greats Team by default, though an August 11 downloadable roster update for the title will shift Favre to the Big Apple.

Say what you will about EA's money-grubbing past, but I'm impressed with the reaction time they've shown in amending the innate flaws in Madden '09. Let's hope the gameplay shows the same level of fan-pleasing dedication.

Thanks for info

The 49ers shouldda picked up Brett Favre .... Alex Smith is the most overrated player in the league (I've been saying that for over a year now - mark my words ... next stop: Joey Harrington-ville).

Smith might've learned something from Brett while riding pine for a couple years. Knowitall

Favre says his first choice if released or traded was to play within 'the Division.' Meaning Minny.

I heard he wanted to go to tampa..

I'm going by his press conf. He was pretty candid about what his first choice was. He said part of it was a desire for revenge against the Pack.

Dream on. :wiggle: Favre said enough in that press conf to fuel debate for a long, long time.

You KNOW Kellen Clemens is going to get a bunch of playing time. This is a sweet, sweet deal for the Jets.

I don't understand how this thread relates to any component of Broncos Camp. Makes me want to talk about soup.

How so? Pennington has a wet noodle for an arm. He had a good couple of seasons, but his various arm and shoulder injuries have left him as nothing more than ideal backup material at this point.

Sorry for replying late bro - busy at work.

IMO, chad is smart veteran who may not have a strong arm but he is very accurate and does not make too many mistakes. Right now he is better than the cheif's QBs. Croyle might become a good player by the end of the year but right now chad is better.

Well... that was anticlimactic

Favre will be injured by week three and have thrown at least 10 INTs.

Favre will not be injured...

but he will suck....

was over at some other boards reading all the favre man love from so called "lifetime" packer fans who say they are now jets fans. they still cant wrap it around their brains that "the best qb ever" really should have more than two sb appearances and one championship ring-same as eli manning.
people can say what if elway did this til favre wins another sb but the fact is he didnt. can you imagine what the temptaion to come back was like in '99? the best running back in the game? eddy mac, rod, and sharpe all in their prime? the chance for a threepeat? the chace to even out his sb record? the fact is even with a one of the best teams to win a sb he knew better than to try and coast through another season.

Favre said a while back something along the lines of "either let me play for you, or beat you" when he said he wanted to play within the division. Once it was made clear that there were suitors outside the division so he was going elsewhere, he then made it clear that TB was his preferred destination.

I hear from those who saw the press conference that he seemed less than thrilled to be a Jet.

Well, hambone and others, looks like I was right. The Pack kept Favre out of Minny and even out of the conference. The played their superior cards well and won.
