View Full Version : NY Needs a Tight End

The New York Giants need a TE.
We could use some depth along the Dline, most notably, at DT.
What say we swap out Nate Jackson for a Dlineman?
Since Nate is doing so well, maybe the Broncos can get him looking good for the preseason games, hoping to drum up some interest for him, eh?
Maybe a LBer?
I like Nate. But we got Scheff and Daniel, and can always sign a 4th stringer, or adjust sets accordingly should someone get hurt.

We might be able to get a bag of chips for Nate Jackson. He would have to pass a physical first.
I love these hypothetical trades. Imagine you are the GM of the NY Giants. As soon as the words "trade" and "Nate Jackson" mix, you would laugh youself into a hernia.

why dont we trade graham to get rid of that huge contract we gave him. tony can be just as good.....especially if Clady is legit and we dont have to have a TE constantly blocking this year

You know you have to add a 6th round pick to make a trade fair...

Hypothetical trades always bring the same naysayers.
The Giants will be scouring the preseason games looking for TE potential with a magnifying glass. Think they planned on going into the season with Kevin Boss at TE? Yeah, right. They had no intention of trading Shockey otherwise they would have pulled the trigger pre draft. Shockey broke the camels back by railing Reese in front of everyone. Good move ace.
The Giants have 4 TEs on their roster right now. Not one played more than last year. All training camp fodder if you ask me, and not that Boss is all that in the first place, but what if he gets hurt?
Trade scenarios arent so far fetched.
Someone thinking the Giants wont pick up another TE .........is far fetched.
The Giants are going to watching everyone for possible TE replacements, just like they were looking for some help at WR last year and KR.
They'll be watching the Broncos alright. And we'll be watching them.

Graham might get you a decent player on defense but not a stud on dline. Dlineman worth more then TE that can't catch.

Broncos must be pretty stupid then, cause theyve held a roster spot open for this guy for five years and he hasnt contributed a thing, no?
And hes running with the first team?
If they love Scheff, they sure would want Nate to look good to other teams. Id give him reps.
We didnt draft Powell hoping he would get hurt, so we obviously want more depth than we have at DT as well.

I guess, huh?
They must be waiting for Antonio Gates.
Maybe some of you thought I was talking about getting DT starter from them?
Not at all.
Just a depth DT with the potential to be in the rotation. Someone along the calibre of Powell who we lost.
Not like I was suggesting Osi, or even Alford.

When creating an Orange Mane hypothetical and illogical trade, TheDave teaches us to always use a late pick to make the trade seem realistic.
Justin Tuck for Nate Jackson, Chad Mustard and a seventh round pick. Yeah, that's the ticket!

I wouldn't like to see Action Jackson leave, but I agree about the Giants needing a TE. Their TE made a good catch in the Super Bowl but he really wasn't that good prior to that.

Don't underestimate the value of Nate Jackson.
The Giants could always use a guy who writes good camp journal entries and entertains the rest of the team with his Jack Nasty rap!

Seriously? You honestly think there is one team in the NFL who would trade anything for Nate Jackson? Oh wait...he's taken some training camp reps with the 1's. Surely the Giants can see the value there.
Nate Jackson is a back of the 53 man type of guy, plus he's injury prone. Teams don't trade for guys like that.
The only way we could increase his value is if he put up at least a few huge regular season games this year. As it stands now he's an oft injured receiving TE who hasn't done anything and is nearing 30.

No, but thinking our 3rd TE can be shipped to the G-Men for anything more than a 6th or 7th round pick is very far fetched! Nate Jackson is worth more to our team than he is anybody else. He knows the playbook very well and can fill multiple positions. If he could stay healthy we wouldn't have a Tony Scheffler. He's not going anywhere, unless he gets injured!

But, CB Terrance Newman tore his groin in DAL. Apparently its pretty bad, but hes playing it off. Lots of stuff floating around in the rumor mills out there. Theres a possible team to trade with, since DEN has CBs and DAL apparently needs one.

And so you are suggesting a guy with 16 receptions in his entire career. That's odd reasoning right there.

Yeah this one won't fly. Nate Jackson isn't even a TE he is a converted WR. Only reason he is on this team is because of Bill Walsh.

Backs each player
Walsh's love for players went beyond Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. He never finished an interview with The Denver Post in recent years without asking about Nate Jackson, a backup Broncos tight end.
Walsh had become a frequent visitor to Division III Menlo (Calif.) College games when he noticed Jackson's body control as a receiver. Walsh recommended Jackson to the 49ers and later the Broncos.
"He never had to do all the stuff he did for me," Jackson said. "He didn't have to go to the Menlo games, he didn't have to talk to the reporters about me, he didn't have to get me on the 49ers, he didn't have to talk to Mike Shanahan and say, 'Hey, you've got to take a look at this guy.' None of that he had to do, but he did because he cared."
Walsh's son, Steve, died of leukemia in 2002 at the age of 46. A Denver resident and journalist, Steve was married to Kathleen Walsh, the spokeswoman for the Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office.
"The world knew Bill Walsh as a football coach, I knew him as the head of our family," Kathleen Walsh said. "He was the person at the end of the dinner table who would say grace for the family and make sure we were all together."
Bill Walsh recommended him to Shanny. And we all know about Shanny's admiration about Jackson.

Cool I didn't know that!
Anyways, I'm as big a Jack Nasty fan as anyone, but this is how that conversation would go:
Broncos: "hai want nate jackson? we need a pass rush."
Giants: "whom? why haven't we heard of him"
Broncos: "oh because he's been injured every year for the last 5 years, but he's max lols. and one time he did play, and he's got sweet hands."
Giants: "oh umm...why don't you leave your number and we'll call you back"

Has Jackson played an entire season for us since we acquired him in trade? Has he made an impact on the TE position for us in any game?
I don't dislike the guy, but he just can't stay healthy enough to depend on. Guess the same could be said about Scheffler. But who would you rather keep?
While we may not get much, if anything, for Jackson, both he and Scheffler are the same type of player that can't seem to stay healthy. The only differnce being Scheffler has an upside and Jackson doesn't.
So ship Jackson out by trade or just cut him outright.

Again, who in their right mind is going to trade a damn thing for Nate Jackson? You have to give to get. What are you giving with Nate? An undrafted, non-productive, oft-injured tweener reserve TE who has clung miraculously and mysteriously to a sub-par NFL roster.

If a trade was going to go down it would be Scheffler traded not Jackson. Scheffler could get something good in return, but he has developed such a good relationship with Cutler I think it would be silly to trade him no matter how good Jackson is looking.
